    Allan is watching from somewhere and is very proud

    • @lex.cordis
      @lex.cordis 9 месяцев назад +20

      What's great is that he definitely has an obvious Holdsworth influence, but it's clear he's not trying to completely cop Allan's sound. He has his own voice. He took some of Allan's ideas and is just doing his own thing with it.

      Allan mentioned him in Guitar Player April 2008. I remembered it just awhile back and went and looked up the music. It definitely fills a void for me & it’s fresh. All Tim’s albums are winners. ✅

    I'm absolutely no musical expert, but I immediately thought of Holdsworth when I first started watching this video.
    I think the similarity is Miller & Holdsworth are both from the same planet, which is light years away from Earth.

    Tim, you won't remember me, but you were my guitar instructor at the south shore conservatory for a short time around 2005/2006. I stopped after a few months after feeling embarrassed and guilty for not practicing and wasting my parents money...oh the ignorance of youth...
    Anyways, flash forward to 2023 and Im with my girlfriend at the Plini show at the Paradise when he brings you on stage.
    It was difficult explaining the context around the abrupt existential crisis I suddenly found myself in to my girlfriend haha. What could have been if I had only siezed that opportunity 🥺
    Amazing performance, by the way! (both Atlas and your appearance with Plini)
    Also - do you still play that Godin midi/synth guitar??

  • @robertpehlman5195
    @robertpehlman5195 9 месяцев назад +12

    I think players go nuts with non-functional harmony where every chord is a non-sequitur and the melody lines seem designed to intentionally stress people out but you manage to capture the beauty of these choices that are unconventional but still make sense and are in service of connecting with the listener. I see people making Holdsworth comparisons, but those comparisons do a disservice to everyone and I like this playing much more.

    • @fusionfan6883
      @fusionfan6883 9 месяцев назад +4

      Why on earth is a Holdsworth comparison a disservice, you should be honoured???

    • @lex.cordis
      @lex.cordis 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@fusionfan6883 Seriously. Holdsworth was/is the most beautiful, melodic, and other-worldly player/composer to have ever lived. Holdsworth was music itself incarnated. Nothing about him was "non-sequitur."

    I don't think it's a copy of holdsworth. His runs are more even and neat and the interval choices are less random feeling. The finger tone and vibrato though are right from his school. I think his biggest innovation from Allan is leaning more heavily on a natural acoustic-like clean sound and like I said, just trimming the proverbial fat on all fronts, that's less excessive.

    • @nogbadthebad2609
      @nogbadthebad2609 4 месяца назад +2

      With respect, Tim is an outstanding player, no question, BUT, IMHO no one and I mean no one, has legato runs that are more even and neater than Allan Holdsworth. No one is even close to Holdsworth's genius. Let us not forget that Allan (along with Ollie Halsall) invented this way of playing. I am pretty sure that Tim would agree.

    Fabulous complex composition and chord movement. Such clean skill in both hands. I'd have preferred development of a slower theme in the solo and more understated drums, but mastery nonetheless.
