Great job. I have the FT-8900 in an Armoloq Manpack w/ Dakota LiFEPO4 battery. Love my Yaesu FT-8900 and the Armoloq Manpack. Keep in mind, if you have the quadband radio, make sure u have the correct antenna to be able to utilize all the bands. Gonna have to get the KastKing bag to put everything in. Have it in a backpack now but like the KastKing bag.
Add a Genisun solar charge controller and a solar panel and you can work off grid for ages! I built mine with a FT-857d sadly no longer made allows HF as well then. If you switch to Anytone or Tytera with DMR you loose 6m & 10m but gain encryption and longer range in simplex mode...
To take full advantage of the 4 bands of this radio, will require at least 2 external antennas. No point having 50 watts of power if you don't have a proper antennas to take advantage if it. You could make one for the 10m and 6m as a dual band antenna with a Folded Skeleton Sleeve Antenna. (youtube videos show it).
That’s dependent on the frequency you’re transmitting on. But in most cases you’re going to find that these types of radios transmit on UHF & VHF frequencies. Meaning that you only will need one properly tuned antenna to function on both bands, such as the QP whip from ZBM2 Industries that was mentioned on the video.
@@gridbasedotnet Well, yes, but I am in EU and the cost of the antena plus shipping costs would be crazy high. The solution for me is to try finding something locally. That's the reason why I am asking. And yes, UFH/WHF is the core usage, as you mentioned :)
Signal Stik may be a good alternative. The EU is big on radio, I’m sure there are some good resellers over there. But, since I’m not familiar with EU comms I probably won’t be of much help.
There are none that are waterproof or weatherproof. This is due to the fact that these larger types of radios that have higher wattage levels also create more heat. Being that they create more heat, they have to have cooling vents and fans. This prevents being able to water proof them. A water tight bag is what you’d be looking for in this instance.
How would I tie in an old cellphone to run aprs? It would be easy to tie in charging to keep the phone running, it would allow me to drop the pack ontop of a hill, and create a mobile digipeater, as well as some other fun things.
This radio has 6meter and I have a prc 77 that will also do 6 meter. Will these radios talk to each other? I know that the prc 77 uses a specific tone (if I remember correctly).
When I comes to power choice for “man pak” I am going to use Rc 3s 5000mah batteries and carry 3 one charging via solar one in use and on backup and solar charger the smaller mah will charge quicker and these Rc batteries have MUCH HIGHER C RATING .. MUCH MORE AMP POWER LIKE 50c-100c
Correct. No SSB on the TH9800. but, there’s not really a full-power alternative that offers that in the same price bracket. So, for what it is, nice to have. Especially if you have some handhelds that also do 6m & 10m. Interoperability is increased.
This video would've been way more enjoyable if you did less talking and more building. It's almost as if you wanted to talk so you could throw out a 13 minute video vs a 2 minute video.
Wasn’t sure what to expect when I clicked on this video and just wanted to say, nice job! I own a few Armoloq pack frames and they are great.

How many fars have you got with the setup
Put some affiliate links in the description 🙏
Also highly recommend adding a roll up J-pole to this kit.
The affiliate links are already in the description. Roll up J-Pole is a great idea
Nice overview video, God bless.

My personal pack has an 857. Lovely radio.

They make quad band antennas, so you wouldn’t have to have 2 separate antennas.
Great video can you please share the information on witch antenna you are using with this radio
ZBM2 QP Whip
@ thanks dos it work well with that radio
Yes
Could you talk also talk about what types of antenas should we look for? I mean - parameters.

Great content. Could you please recommend a similar radio that is waterproof/weatherproof?

Which model of the Armoloq mount fits the TYT?
The one labeled Yaesu 8900
How far will the single go?

You can make a standalone digipeater out of a raspberry pi running xastir. Look up KM4ACK digipeater
Good info, like it.
Let's get some interaction for yah.

how much the signal go?
Far
That battery is 35 dollars I use them often and love them
LETS GOOO
The TH9800 is a good 2M , 70 cm but not in 10M because AM only no LSB / USB , if I understand properly

$500 for this setup, not super affordable.
You clearly haven’t seen the alternatives then.
