I met a blind person who said she could find Waldo with 100% accuracy. Turned out a sighted person had circled Waldo in pencil, then it got erased. But she could still feel the indentation left behind. If I remember correctly, she was really motivated at the time to one-up her sister. :)
We had a copy of Where's Waldo (where's Wally as from the UK) in our primary classroom library and someone did exactly this. Circled every single one and with pen at that. I'm 43 and never forgotten this 😂
This also applies to the I Spy books. I loved those books. There is actually a very interesting video on how the guy that takes the pictures for those books does the set ups.

Do NOT circle Waldo personally I'd match the handwriting to see who circled Waldo and make them sit out of PE for a week it's like drawing circles on a bathroom stall but I'd take farther consequences if I caught someone drawing on stalls that's a write up if I caught someone writing on stalls and I'd do everything to find out who it is if people write on stuff that belongs to school property or in stuff that belongs to school property (yes I did take my time to write this but im a fast typer do I dont care)

I love to read. I started loving it when I was very young. When the school book fair happened I had a huge stack. I went to the library all the time. I had a huge collection of books before I moved across the country about 15 years ago and had to sell them because it was too expensive to move them. Once I moved I was in walking distance to my local library and read so many of my favorite authors books that I had to wait for them to write another one. But even as a young kid I treated books like you described because they meant so much to me.
I write notes in all my books. I highlight phrases that inspire me. I fold the pages to mark the best parts I want to revisit again and again. Sometimes I add sticky notes or even glue in extra pages with notes, relevant quotes, pictures, etc. I bought this book for myself, and it becomes a journal of the thoughts and feelings I had while reading it. You don't write in a book of any kind unless the teacher says you should, it's just like cheating on a test, your giving the answer to next person who reads the book without them doing the work to find out the answers on their own,.It's just not done.What if this were a library book you could be charged for a new copy of the book, because you destroyed publicly owned property. Would you think it wasn't a big deal
