The construction of aircraft carriers 004 and 005 has started simultaneously, and the construction of two 076 unmanned aerial vehicle carriers equipped with electromagnetic catapults has also begun in Shanghai. This implies that China has a responsibility to possess the most powerful naval fleet on Earth, used to defend China and the majority of countries in the world from attacks by Anglo-Saxon pirate gangs. For example, China is India's largest trading partner. Well it should cost a lot less as it's not nuclear - the UK went own the same route, but it does limit how far it can go and how long it can remain on station when it gets there. I would imagine the use case for this ship is staying within the south China sea so it should be fine, but it wouldn't be able sail to the Mediterranean and run a year long operation against an adversary - unlike the US carriers which can and do do that.

    How many aircraft can it contain?

      I can answer some. The Liaoning was originally the Riga, built in Ukraine for the Soviet navy. The Shandong was built domestically as a modified version of Riga's design. The Fujian is a new design for China. None of them are nuclear-powered, which could mean the EMALS system would have a slower launch rate (fewer aircraft per minute) than if it were powered by a nuclear reactor.

      @werolo3520 4 месяца назад +4

      If you have passed your middle school physic exams, you should know there is no problem of a conventional carrier with EMALS. The only thing matter is energy efficiency. Actually EMALS has better efficiency than steam catapuls, like those in Kitty Hawk class carrier. In a steam catapuls carrier, you need to consume energy to heat water and than use the energy of steam power to accelerate aircraft. Most of the energy were lost during this process. EMALS use eletric power to accelerate aircraft, energy lost during the process is much fewer than stem catapuls. Steam catapuls work well in US convential carrier. So EMALS will work even better. In other words, EMALS consume less energy than steam catapuls per launch. And because the EMALS in Fujian are using DC. So in theory they have even better efficiency than AC EMALS which were installed in US carrier Ford.

    This boat, type 003, CV-18, is nothing…
    Speculations abound, words in the street is that they have plans for *a super container ship and other marine vessels using thorium reactor* as the
    power source.
    This in turn leads me to believe that once this technology is matured enough (under going actual tests on smaller sized communities right now in the country) that they will refit all four carriers, the 001, 002, 003 (and an additional 003 now in progress) with this power source which is why they still build them using conventional power sources.
    Not only that, but, as we speak, chatters www abound, two 004 class nuclear power CV’s have already started, simoutanously, in two distinct yards as plans are being drawn up for an addition ten boats of different tonnages all likely to br powered by thorium now by 2045 timeframe…
    And, by that logic, we can assume that they will start fielding their Aegis and other naval systems with the same power source due to the safety aspect of thorium reactors over others power sources.
    Only logical you know. They are waiting for thorium.

      An aircraft carrier is in indeed outdated when its used as a MAIN force projection asset - for example like US Navel doctrine. A carrier battle group is vulnerable to hypersonic missiles as they are far away from their territory. Case in point the US pulled away its carrier fleet in 2015 from the Persian gulf when Russia sent in troops to Syria. The Russians have supersonic missiles that could have sunk the entire carrier fleet. China uses its carrier battlegroups as an area denial asset. Park these carriers at bottles necks leading into the South China Sea to deny US forces from coming into the area- while the Chinese navy not only having its carrier forces protected by its navel aircraft but also protected by land based aircraft as well.

      So Pentagon has nothing to worry at all. There's no threat from China. They dont have a navy. No need to deploy their mighty naval fleet to SCS. Send them instead to the Red Sea and deal with the Houthis. Better recall your marines from the Middle East and secure your southern border. Its wide opened now and a threat to national security.

    How is that when the US or a European power churns out ANOTHER technologically advanced, design shattering carrier the narrative is, "The age of carriers is over, these nations are living in the past," but when China churns out an overly large carrier ill paired with in ship power generation abilities and fueling support nexus, the narrative is, "China is in the big leagues"? Sorry, either carriers, even those with less than well developed conceptualization (Fujian) are extremely valid or they aren't. You can't have it both ways, unless you're just a mouthpiece that repeats whatever script is before you. See Binkov's "Just when will aircraft carriers become obsolete?" for poor forecasting & analysis.

    • @howardlee357
      @howardlee357 5 месяцев назад

      Well, political correctness swings, both ways, doesn’t it? When Americans or Europeans talk about their own aircraft carriers, they talk about technology and pride of the nation. The same people that speak well of western aircraft carriers, speak of China obtaining carriers with a draconian view. They speak of China as though she is doing something nefarious.
      So there are many things in this world that cannot be had both ways. But people do it anyway.

      @@adlerzwei Obtaining a carrier is not nefarious, what you do with it is what matters. And as far as China is concerned they have given up territorial conquest, the government feels it is just taking back what is theirs. Or at least that is their narrative. And honestly yes it entirely depends on whose narrative you're listening to. One thing I'd like to say though is that I have never heard anyone say the age of carriers is over, and anyone who does is completely out of the loop.

    • @howardlee357
      @howardlee357 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@adlerzwei it depends on the narrative and there again people want to have it both ways. Just look at the resistance to funding Ukraine. There are people in the US that wonder why we are spending money on Ukraine when there is a rising China.
      Yet it is the Russians who have boots on the ground. With tens of thousands of deaths so far.
      And somehow a Chinese Coast Guard vessel spraying water cannons is deemed more nefarious.
      And yes, this subjective view of the world extends to China’s military.

    • @alacazaba
      @alacazaba 5 месяцев назад

      @@howardlee357 1000% China is building carriers for nefarious outcomes, just look at what they do with their "civilian" coast guard ships that are only endowed with state policing powers, while in Philippine waters sinking and attacking the wooden bangkas of Filipino fishermen. Even the first carrier, Liaoning, was obtained through an elaborate scheme of deception so as not to cause concern, all run by the PLA. Carriers are a very effective tool of power projection and will be for decades to come, and China intends to build carriers to better impose its will. Denying or seeking to undermine corresponding proof of the West's capabilities everytime it builds a new class of carrier is not a balanced understanding of the realities.

      In today's world, there are 190 countries, and China is the largest trading partner for 130 of them. This implies that China has a responsibility to possess the most powerful naval fleet on Earth, used to defend China and the majority of countries in the world from attacks by Anglo-Saxon pirate gangs. For example, China is India's largest trading partner. I believe Indians would also not want a situation where tomorrow, the United States suddenly demands that India stop importing goods from China, threatening to bomb India otherwise. If China has the strongest fleet, we can safeguard the trade security of both China and India.
