    I'm sitting here with my jaw on the ground. 45 years I'm a farmer and this thing has me amazed.....never heard of them before. I WANT ONE!!! :)

      They do a nice job. Fast and efficient in working the surface to warn it up and incorporate residue ahead of planting.

    I guess the 35 folk who don't like this don't eat food. Where was this back in 1964? Could've used it big time. Very nice pieces of equipment that make life a whole lot easier. Very cool stuff. Thanks for posting.

    Excellently presented, very good voice at the right speed of explanation. Great idea, as I see the chains are not driven, turning by the component of the dragging force of earth. And the best: No Music!!!

    This is something I have never seen before. An amazing implement. Seems simple enough but I wonder how you change out a disk if one get damaged. Thanks for showing this video. I had no idea something like this existed.

      i guess you change out the whole chain section when all discs get small. but if 1 disc break you can weld on a new one by welding 2 parts toghether.. but i dont think they break wery often on regular sand and dirt fields, where there are no big rocks they can catch hold on

      I guessing how even there wearing will be. Pretty even wear throughout the chain. The Kelly Diamond harrow can unlink the chain and unbolt the disc from the chain to put a new one on. I’ve met farmers though the humdinger would work because if one disc is bad the whole chain is getting replaced.

    I am not a farmer, I live in the city. I do love equipment and have an equipment operator background for 20 years the. Drove city bus for 23 years. I enjoyed the video and it was fascinating to see how this disking system works. Love to see the Case pulling unit works, is it still called a Tractor? Being a city boy I have no clue. Hope you sell lots.

    problem we have here in central dakotas if we use implements like that to break down stubble and stalks a few hrs days and we get high wind and it piles the stubble and stalks into the fence lines or road ditches

      @@jeromecandeloro5847 The joke with the humdinger when they were out at first was you could take the money you saved over the kelly harrow and buy a welder to mount on the humdinger. Theyve probably beefed it up by now.

    You mentioned that they were working the top 1-2". Is that the max depth of a chain disk harrow? What kind of price tag does that implement command?

    How big and how many rocks are in these fields? Here in Northeast Iowa we tend to have very hard and numerous blue rocks. high speeds are implement killers.

    just think, they used to do that with a team of mules, hiyaa, getti up Jack, getti up Belle, puli you mules pull.
    that big tractor sounds like a diesel locomotive when it passes.

      It can work through corn stalks. It is used to work the top 1/2 inch of soil and mix it with residue to warm the seed bed and encourage decay of crop material.

    I hope the owner knows a good welder or is proficient at welding himself because Humdingers break all to pieces after a couple of years. Kelly diamond harrows are the best chain harrows in the world.

    Hey. I know where Lubbock is. I live near it but I don’t think I knew these were built there. Don’t see many farmers using them, or least I dont

      This was the first time I ever saw this chain disc. The Kelly Diamond Harrow which is similar but painted green is a big seller here. I like finding different machines like this.

      @@bigtractorpower I know one farmer near me that has one, not sure which brand, and 2 others that might have one but that's it. Though part of it might be we most of the fields in our area are small so it would be a lot of turning around.

      It's made out of heavier steel than a disk blade

    Good video, however, that chain apparatus will be just a novelty. Maintenance costs will be through the roof and you aren't getting a whole lot of work done for the fuel you are burning.

      The chain discs are very popular where I live. One farmer I know had had his five years. He has never had any issues or down time. It replaced two 30ft turbo tills and he can stay several hundred acres of his planter.

      Shouldn´t think so because it shears the top layer of the soil off, which is not supposed to happen with vertical tillage as far as I understand it.

    Why doesn’t Humdinger build a shallow field cultivator on the front edge of those chains. It seems like there is too much left over green trash!

    To me this is wasted effort no till right into no cover that is no cover. Corn stalks after 250 bu crop then we can get serious about doing something constructive
