We had a 1985 Panther CM360 for years on out farm and have nothing but praise for it. What a brute! Very fuel efficient too. I've always loved the looks of the green Steiger before they were bought out by Case.
We pulled a 60’ Bourgeault cultivator with a 350 bus. air cart for seeding with the Panther. In the fall we pulled a 49’ heavy duty chisel plow with anhydrous ammonia teeth and a 2000 gal tank behind. That was a big load. Often times we’d be going in late fall in the snow. As long as the ground wasnt froze. That Steiger could sure pull. 70’ Degelman Heavy Harrow at 11 mph was no problem. That’s over 70 acres per hour. I miss that brute. It was such a pleasure to operate.
My brother welded front frames in Fargo in the early 90s when the 9300 series came out they shut the whole plant down for a day and the families of the workers could take a self guided tour of the plant that was really something to see the 9300s had the name Steiger on the grill
@@bigtractorpower oh yea Case IH rolled out the red carpet on that day my brother also told me that him and another guy snuck back in the engineering department and he said there were 2 experimental Quadtracs in there painted all black and they would test them next to the plant at night no lights on of course lol
We owned for over 25 years three of these machine at home. and put over 15 000 hours on each of them.We had a Case 9170, 9250 and a 9130. And I have to say that these were incredibly reliable and strongly built machines. Great video
Learned to drive/operate a late 70s Cougar model with an 855 inline cummins that sounded so sweet, this farmer has 4 Steigers still today in SW Ohio that sadly don't get used since he No-tills with newer Case IH magnum series, great video and it took me back in time👍
The KTA 1150 in the Tiger III and IV is a beast and can be pushed well past 600 with relative ease. Tractor itself seems kind of light for that kind of power although I'm sure with enough weights and fluid you could get it to hook up. Truly a beast and barely pushing that engine to get 470 or 525 hp out of it.
Steiger and big bud history has always fascinated me. Love these videos when either is in them! Does this farmer have a RUclips channel? He should, I watch Welker and Fast Ag a lot and this guy would sure be up there with them
My neighbor has a few old steiger tractors but doesn't use them much any more since he's been updating his fleet but every time he fires up one of them old beasts it's amazing to go watch them work
Over the years, I got to farm with Series 1 Super Wildcat and Cougar. Series 3 ST225, and ST325. CIH 9150 and 9170. And finally 335 and 535. All were a pleasure to work with.
More of these please!! That Tiger was quite the tractor. Great vid & story behind the title. Is he’s still thinking of writing a Steiger history book? Cheers
Another example of a company that saved IH. In the early 80's around northwest Tennessee only a couple of farms had the big Steigers. Us kids would ask for a 1/64 toy for our birthday or Christmas and if lucky enough to get one, would pry the wheels off another toy tractor and super glue them on the Steiger to make duals. They were not very detailed back then.
I was right there with you on wanting a Steiger toy. I ended up getting an Industrial Steiger toy. My friend and I cut wheels off too to make duals. We used modeling clay to make the duals removable like the real ones.
Great video... A wonderful piece of agricultural history.... If you ever gets chance to do a video on the Australian made Acre Master tractors, that would be fantastic...
Funny you post this, my buddy is in Australia setting up Seedhawk air seeders and he was just in a yard where the backup tractor is a Tiger but the unit thats hooked up to the seeder is a 1997 ACO 460, 820hp Cat motor in it built in South Africa 700 triples all around.
@@AgriStudios I thought so. My uncle ran a ranch near Highwood and I visited there (and Fort Benton, Great Falls, etc.) many times when I was a kid. When I saw the film, I was like "That's Montana...."
A german tractor manufacturer, Eicher, did that for a while too. They had Leopards, Panthers, Tigers, Kingtigers and Mammoths for some reason. The range went from 15 to 60 engine hp in the 1960s, so any Steiger cat would have eaten them for lunch.
The lion in this video is powered by a 3406 Cat motor not an 855 cummins. There were a select few that were CAT powered. Minute 4:08 of the the video shows a side shot of the motor where you can clearly see the large in line Caterpillar injection pump on the side of the motor.
I like when tractors and implements have names like Puma and Joker. Case kept the Puma name. The big body style of those old beasts was cool. We had LOTS of big Versatiles in Canada and they were built in Winnipeg where I am.
Awesome vid BTP👍with sowing season just began, our CaseIH 9370 has 20,000 hrs n wonder why these Steigers hold there value for their age although I have seen few red 9300 around $50,000 n Basic green Steiger for $25,000.
Bri Rei my understanding is that the FW-20 was a bearcat with a 555 cummins v8 (cripple nickel,) the FW-30 a cougar with the 903 naturally aspirated V8, the FW-40 the same with more power, and the FW-60 a panther with the VT-903

The aerial shots of those Tigers are fantastic! Wish I could give this video more than one like. Thank you for another great video!
I loved seeing the Lions, Tigers, and Bearcats. Animal names are much more fun than all those 4-digit numbers. Thanks!! - Dean from Minnesota
Old guy here likes older equipment videos, Thanks.. My era was before no-till was a word, The world wasn't flat , had hills & gullies.
I remember when the 1000 series came out ,they were the biz especially with that safari cab .
The 1000 was a big design change in 4wd design.
and a design that stuck around through the first quadtracks
interman 77 I can see why. They’re still reasonably nice
A straight-piped Bearcat IV!!! My dad has one just like it when I was a kid. It’s long gone, but the memories of it aren’t!
There’s always something cool about old school articulated 4wd tractors. Not too many of the green Steigers around here anymore.

These tractors must have appreciated in value significantly...yes?
This is one of your coolest videos in a long time! Knocked it out of the park
Thank you. I have wanted to make it for a long time. Just took getting a Bearcat filmed to finish the puzzle.
Great Video. Love Steiger tractors. Keep the videos coming.

Always liked the looks and color of the Steigers ,the lime ish green.

Beautiful steiger tractor s
Impressive tractors and impressive results of the tillage tools being used, especially since I came from the age of moldboard plowing.
I think you got to get your hands on one of those beauties for your collection, great video, God Bless, regards Kevin Fox, Essex London.
I like the title of your video very catchy.
I really do like your video, it's so relaxing watching these big monsters do their job.
Very interesting to hear the history of the steigers. They sound really good👍
The 70’s and 80’s Steigers have s big deep sound. Thank you for watching.
I never heard of some of those before that’s a great video thanks for sharing
Those cats have a pretty mean sounding meow to them 😂
6:47 to an untrained ear that sounds like a two-stroke Detroit diesel, or is he just reving it very high? Lovely video, thanks a lot indeed! 👍
It be great to get a Tiger KP525 working in the wild! Great video as always!
Justin White if memory serves, the fella that owns this tiger has one. He has a thing for anything with an 1150 cummins

Built as heavy and as tough as one too

Great viedo👍 the first tractor the Steiger brothers built was called Barney...he was a HIPCAT!😁
Where did you shoot the tiger footage? Is that Montana, Wyoming or Idaho?
Cummins! Best noise in the world!

Oldies but "goldies"!

Good to see tractor's working

We might be selling our 9250 caseih Steiger maybe... might be a new addition
Congrats on the story on your RUclips channel. I really want to feature your 9250. It’s a unique part of Steiger history.
@@bigtractorpower maybe I could just somehow send you some straight footage of it working?

So the Tigers pulling the air seeders....where exactly was that filmed? Looks like Montana....

Remember, datth jingle .. If you have rig to snig look at a Stiger they pull like a tiger . Classic Line !!!!
I feel sorry for the cutter bar that has to harvest that wheat. Those were some big rocks.

You should come up to Canada and see the Case IH Dealership In storthoaks Saskatchewan. They’ve been in business for a long long time! Very cool
These tractors look like the "Big Buds" owned by Welker Farms in Montana.
TILL THAT GROUND.
I could watch that tiger all day I think. What tea tor was in the back ground of the seem of the tiger another one?
Need to see ifyoucan find the yellow stager. A farm by me win i was younger had one back in 1985.
That Lion 1000. Sure looks like an 3406b Caterpillar in it, no?
4:08 clearly a 3406 inline fuel injection pump.
I’m sorry to say but 5:41 is the driver sleeping? Implement is brushing the soil.
It is a seeder. It only places the seeds one inch in the ground.
What is the biggest tractor on that farm
Carter Speegle that’s 3 different operations
never mind u cover it in the intductions

855 Cummins 👍
Good ole iron wonder where they ever came up with that color. Like the color don’t get me wrong just different

Why no more Steigers built? Carole Baskin
Because they were bought out by CaseIH back in the 1980's

It sounds like the Bearcat has a Detroit Diesel motor
It does have a unique sound. It has an LT10 where most Steigers with Cummins used 855s.
I’ve got a cougar CR1225 for sale
Crazy how cheap these behemoths were compared to tractors now
Back then they were big money. Similar tractors today are $400,000 to $600,000.
If they were still using cat names, an autonomous tractor could be called a “Stray Cat”.
