I'm a firefighter, here's my humble take: it seems to work so long as you leave it on and are willing to get close. Also, it won't disturb the super-heated oil, which could spread the fire (especially if you use water!), and it won't leave a powdery mess. An extinguisher is heavier, can expire, and will fill the room with powder, but can be used from a distance on a variety of fuel types and, if needed, as a small ram to break windows and light duty locks.
Regarding useing it as cover to escape a burning buiding, well, it's not that big. Also, smoke inhalation kills more than direct flame. In Japan, some hotels have "escape bags" in each room-- a large, clear plastic bag that you catch clean air with before putting it over your head before entering a smoke-filled hallway. Yeah, I know how that sounds, _a plastic bag over your head!_ Hey, if something is stupid but works, maybe it ain't stupid!
We have a variety of tools on our truck, but discern which to use in a given situation-- you guys should do the same. Stay safe out there!

Thank you for this reporting! Thinking this product was better than the fire extinguisher, I almost bought these. You just saved me some money and maybe my families safety!

Thank you for this - it’s Very important to know how it works and how it does not work. …I might buy the blanket to give myself the time to get the fire extinguisher going. Thank you again 🙏

Will it replace a fire extinguisher, no way, but it looks like it’ll buy you some time to get the fire extinguisher or get out of the house safely

I looked up the name of the firefighter in the ads and he _is_ a real firefighter, _but_ he's _also_ an actor. Literally no way to tell if he's telling the truth.

I think if you have the blanket and an extinguisher, even if the blanket doesn't put out the fire, it'll prevent it from spreading and give you time to get the fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

I mean wouldn't this prevent your kitchen, patio, laundry room...from burning down? I imagine instead of a raging oil fire on your bbq now its not spreading. Would I suggest these over a fire extinguisher? No!! Could It come in handy to keep a fire small and contained so you can go run and grab your fire extinguisher under your kitchen sink? I believe so.
I'm no expert, and Im def not refuting what a fire fighter showed us, I just know this would give me time to actually think of what to do lol

I'm more concerned about a so-called professional fireman using a grill on a wooden deck.

  • @cmd062
    @cmd062 3 месяца назад +10

Well the fire is not being smothered because its a grille and you have not blocked all of the air. When you remove the blanket the fire in the grille is reigniting the fire in the pan. If the fire in the grille was turn off or extingished then the pan should not reignite.

Not to mention on the Facebook adds, most all of the fires are in the same kitchen, flat surfaces, small clean fires.

If you have a grill fire…close the lid and turn off the gas….then get the fire extinguisher. I was once using a party grill at school and no one had cleaned the grease out. The grill had flames easily 6-8 feet high when that grease caught fire. Grabbed the extinguisher and had it out in under 15 seconds…and under control within 5. Extinguishers work!

I've thought about getting one of these. But the cost for them is really too high for what you get.
Can't you do the same thing with a sheet of fiberglass and maybe treat it with a fire retardant?
The only time I really needed one was when my toaster caught on fire. It failed to pop up and turn off. It was probably the food caught and didn't come all the way up.
Unfortunately I had gone to change into my day clothes and wasn't standing right there. When I came back out to the kitchen the Flames were licking at my cupboards.
All I did was grab a plate and set it over the fire to smother it. I unplugged it, took it outside and hosed it down for good measure. The plate broke from the heat and the toaster went in the trash.

In one of the ads it made me laugh when the actor dressed as a firefighter claims - without hesitation - that the blanket is safe for youngsters to use. Yet the real fire fighter, when testing it out, says that it is dangerous for anyone to use without due caution.
I am not saying that the item has no benefit. But it is extremely irresponsible to make it seem like a be all end all product completely safe for the vulnerable to use.
