  • Just a few scraps to create even more uses for your angle grinder !
    NOTE : I called the threads 10/20. On most angle grinders the thread size where the handle goes is 1/4-20 :-)

    Bill, you did an amazing awesome job on not only developing the is jig, but also in creating this video. I felt welcomed into your shop and gave me the feeling that we were rubbing shoulders the entire time. You are a great teacher and instructor. Love you man!

    I've watched a few of these DYI brackets to turn an angle grinder into a bench grinder but yours was by far the easiest to put together. I'll be building one on the weekend. thank you so much.

    Awesome jig Bill. That's a great way to make a single tool more versatile. Very useful for people who don't suffer from T.A.S. or have a small budget or lack of space.

    Awesome way to make a take anywhere bench grinder. Brilliant using the handle hole to secure it too. I was thinking it needed a hose clamp near the back, but nope!👍🏻

    What kind of ruler is this at 2:06 ? It looks much longer than a 30 cm ruler, and the units are divided into 8 or 16. Is it like an architect ruler so that you can draw at a given scale or something ?

    Doesn't the position of the guard leave the user exposed to flying debris?Seems like you'd want to stand to the side or rotate the guard

    • @WilliamLutesMaker
      @WilliamLutesMaker  4 года назад

      D Ryan Anderson With the guard positioned where it is in the video, There doesn’t seem to be any more debris directed at the user than on a standard bench grinder. However, this jig does allow for the rotation of the guard as you suggested if needed. Mostly, eye pro is your friend :-)
      Thanks for checking this out Brother 👊🏼❤️👊🏼

    • @dryananderson
      @dryananderson 4 года назад

      @@WilliamLutesMaker From my understanding, a bench grinder runs at 3,450 rpm typically. An angle grinder can spin at over 10,000 rpm. That's why angle grinders always scare me. Most dangerous tool in the shop, in my opinion. Some recommend full face shield when using discs that can fracture. Great video, just trying to learn safety myself. Great channel.

    Cool jig! Looks a little artsy too boot.

  • @LacklusterSupply
    @LacklusterSupply 7 лет назад +1

    having the tool rest below centerline on the grinder is not safe at all. side grinding on the machete is fine but for grinding on the end (like a bench grinder) the piece can get pulled into the disk....

    • @LacklusterSupply
      @LacklusterSupply 7 лет назад +1

      I'm not trying to rag on ya brother... I like your version of this hack... I think adding a spacer on the end would increase the safety factor for those unfamiliar with useing angle grinders.
      on the podcast I think you guys were thinking of "make it extreme" as the angle grinder hacker guys...

    • @WilliamLutesMaker
      @WilliamLutesMaker  7 лет назад +1

      LacklusterSupply
      Thanks for the feedback brother. I have never had an issue with this setup. Most likely, the power difference between an actual Bench grinder and a 41/2 inch angle grinder is vast. But like all things safety, everyone needs to decide for themselves :-)

      I thought about a hinge action to use with cutting disks, but I figured anything that small to cut would be easier with just holding the angle grinder and clamping the piece to be cut.

    Is that the harbor freight angle grinder? I'd love to hear your opinion on it if so, or what you'd recommend for an entry level angle grinder since you actually do metal work. most opinions I've been given have been from "tool tools" that buy pretty yellow stuff to decorate their garages with. I'm wanting to get into metalworking a little bit, so any tips of the trade are appreciated

      Yes, thats the Harbor Freight one. With a coupon, less than $10 bucks. I have owned that for years now and if/when it burns up I will have gotten my moneys worth. Get one, see if you like metal working. Theres is always time to upgrade to the Yellow tools if you find you are passionate about working with metal :-)
