1 minute in, and I'm already noticing you lost A LOT of weight...and that's coming from an avid subscriber (the actual word, not the software). It's been what-about a year since you've gotten into keto and this is a huge change. wow. im amazed by the results.

The +48 volt can be used to power an active DI box straight into the compressor, or use an inline preamp like a cloudlifter, fethead or SE Dynamite straight into the compressor with a mic. So though it seems like a silly inclusion it's not, it can actually be very useful.

The thing everyone misses about the Sono is that is has an INBUILT REAMP OUT. Why aren’t we screaming about this? It’s killer!

Reamp needs to be in every unit under the sun going forward.
The only pickle I have with the Sono is if the preamp is "clean" enough to use external mic preamps into it. It'd probably be fine, eh?

Oh, phantom on the compressor is because it is also a mic preamp without a ton of gain (you should use a cloud lifter or something with it). I didn’t try it with mine when I had them, but the manual speaks about it.

Damn, Glenn are you following my Reverb wishlist too?! 😂 I was just looking at the 500 series M Sonic Pre, but after doing some more research and reading that the transformers weren't the best, I decided to invest that money into some DIY modules with fancy iron. I'm really curious how they hold up to other mic pres both expensive and cheap. Could be a cool color with the Air and Impedance selection switches too...

It's amazing how tube hardware emulations using solid state circuitry has come far. I mean, a cheap 1176 is not going to be the UA, still does not have to. It can sometimes add a better character to what we want to achieve than hardware which costs 10x more.

Also, the slow/fast switch changes both the attack and release at the same time. Slow sets both to slow, fast sets both to fast.

These are great preamps (I have the pre nsonic version). The color doesn’t bother me. I had the comps too, but they weren’t what I was looking for, but really well made too.

Wondering if you ever review mic mods of various mics? The Jon Goads, Bill's mics, etc. I been interested in hearing more. I have had probably six mics modded and have really been impressed with how much better they sound and compete
I have an Alctron DI box and I can't fault it.
I think that some of Thomann´s own branded gear is rebranded Alctron stuff like my T.bone drum mic set for example, very good for the money.
Glen, can you do a series of videos, showing us old dogs how we can give form to our song ideas. I have my guitar and my riffs but other than that i am lost on the equipment and programs that are out there. How can we create a song from scratch and what equipment do we need? Thank you!

The studio that I work for we have a Infinity preamp clone from that company and it's off the wall great we just changed out the tube that came with it with a better tube perfect vocal came out flawless.

That 73 looks like it has the same switches and controls as the Golden Age 573. Same factory perhaps?

not sure if this is a stupid question.... But why have the option to change from active to passive or passive to active? Might be answering my own question but assuming too many pre-amps can be too much and mess with the sound. When should I use passive and when should i use active? Other than the obvious that if i don't have a pre-amp in my interface or chain then i need an active DI.
To me 150$ a channel is not cheap. It is FAIR. Hate those manufacturers charging almost 800$ for a channel for NO reason.
To get the 150 dollar price tag it had to probably come a sweat shop... $800 pays for livable wages and actually nice components
You mentioned the Midas 500 stuff. Ordered some Midas preamps and a 6 slot box in December. They said March. I called in March and they said June. I said fuck you Midas. So they might be great, but if you can’t get them it’s irrelevant. Got Cranborne Audio Camden instead...magic.
You never know about the quality of components inside of gear. I just bought a King of Tone clone, the King of Drive, and I was *shocked* to see orange drop caps and Nichicon Gold electrolytics inside as well as the rest being quality components. I'd go so far as to say it may even equal the quality of the real deal KOT. Fully handwired/soldered. It's a badass pedal. And it shows in the price. I paid $70 USD for it...a clone. But like I said, it's a quality, hand-built pedal. It just happens to be a copy of another badass pedal, 🙏🎸👍
Apparently ART now has a VLA compressor in 500 series, I'd love to see a video on that!

i just picked up a MIDAS L6 (i’ve heard mixed reviews, hoping mine has no gain) and a DBX 560A and a Black Lion Pre.
do you have any suggestions for a home studio trying to make this their career, on what 500 units would be perfect tools for my toolbox? i absolutely love the sound of analog stuff and i think i have an addiction to 500 series now!

It is completely mind blowing to me that the cheapest gear 500 series wise is always covered. Yet all the ssl neve or any of that’s is completely wide open. So strange to me lol
