The Bad Drivers of Los Angeles 45

  • If everyone has the coronavirus why is there still so much traffic?
    In the city of Los Angeles, the city that never stops driving, would we expect anything less. So one of the most recent and awful additions to my commute is when I take the 101, which mind you is literally just to get off at the next exit, has changed the exit for the worse! First of all when you exit to get to Hollywood blvd two lanes merge into one. That already has enough of it's own complications and annoyances. But now they literally added these huge posts so that you can't move over into other lanes on Cahuegna where it merges after the light. It's literally madness, we get stopped just merging because people never learned and I can't even get into that right now, meanwhile the other two lanes are open with zero cars. Mind you that only happens because not enough cars can get through at the light on Cahuegna and Mulholland because you now can't turn right on a red light?? I literally don't understand why they are trying to make my commute so much worse. It's not even like a single pedestrian CAN even walk around these areas even if they wanted to because it's literally all streets and no sidewalks. ANYWAYS, now that these posts are installed I cannot wait until the Hollywood Bowl starts up again with big concerts. I'm calling it now that the 101 will be so backed up and cause so much traffic that the world hasn't even seen before.... Okay was not expecting that to annoy me that much until I started typing it out. If you live in LA that probably made sense to you and if you don't it's probably hieroglyphics, but hey you're watching a channel about driving in LA.
    So like I was saying, people run red lights, cops get weird, and of course I get honked at for just existing on the road. Why is 2020 feeling like every other year already.

    I honestly don’t get mad at people merging last minute from a turning lane. The more people that do it actually help traffic, & if people are quick about it nobody is even disrupted. I can see people getting upset about it, but you don’t own the lane. If someone wants to merge at the last second let them. It’s not that deep. Risking you and your car because of entitlement is worse then those drivers.

    The abundance of roads in the USA seems to create more chaos than traffic flow. To me is seems to be very inefficient. In the Netherlands, we have very limited space for cars, but there is less stop and go.

      I drove in NYC and it definitely lives up to the 2nd worst traffic in America behind Los Angeles. In Jacksonville, traffic going to Downtown in Am Rush Hour is bad and PM rush hour leaving Downtown is slightly worse. Other times, free parking lots are bad and drivers don't like yielding when traffic isn't suppose to be bad.

    At 5:02, the person just rides the brake with the left foot. I was at a tire place where they also did brakes. The mechanic pointed to one man and said "See that guy. He comes in every 3,000 miles for a brake job because he rides his brakes.' Sure enough, as he left the lot, his brake lights were on.

    • @BrianJoslyn

    • @justmythought1586
      @justmythought1586 4 года назад

      @@BrianJoslyn You missed the point. Yes, he stopped. But when he pulled out, the brake lights were still on. He had one foot on the gas. The other on the brake, but not hard enough to stop the car. You are not telling me that brakes should be replace every 3,000 miles, are you?

    • @BrianJoslyn
      @BrianJoslyn 4 года назад

      I didn't miss anything. The 'problem' where you referred to in the video, as well as the video footage and claims edited in via text, is tunnel vision closed minded claims.
      Maybe there's something else wrong with that vehicles brakes. Maybe it's a problem with the wiring. Maybe the wiring was previously worked on and it's either faulty wiring or the job wasn't done well. Maybe that driver was planning a turn but wasn't familiar with the route (s)he is taking to get somewhere, possibly to a location they've never been before.
      Vehicles don't noticeably slow down very quickly simply from letting off the gas (or accelerator in EVs). It's very possible that driver isn't a two foot driver.
      I happen to have a passed on relative who was a two foot driver.
      'Riding brakes' doesn't do that much damage. It's excessive sudden stops, skids, burnouts... that cause brake problems. Just tapping brakes enough for the brake lights come on isn't enough to do anything to the brakes.
      I have another relative that, at least used to, tap their brakes when someone is tailgating - and has never had a problem with their brakes as a result.
      I know someone that had a '93 Chevy Cavalier years ago. They would do 'neutral drop' in front of people that stopped too close to their rear bumper at traffic lights, no brakes involved and it wasn't often sudden stops or anything hard on the brakes was needed, yet they ended up with paper thin brakes, and drove with them for some time. They had the car long enough and knew the brakes, very well. So, Mr. Know It All, tell me how the brakes ended up paper thin. Around the few(ish) years before that they had a '94 Mitsubishi Mirage LS Sport Coupe and an '88 Mazda. Both were driven with mostly the same driving habits as the Cavalier. I know the answer because I was involved with the knowledge of the three vehicles.
      So, you asked a question... and I'm going to answer it.
      If brakes on any given vehicle need to be fixed/replaced so often then that's simply the reality. It depends on the wear and tear, which is driver relevant. Maybe the vehicle has been, or is, used by new drivers - and it's not uncommon for new drivers to do things that are not normal and can cause one or more problem(s) with the vehicle - whether (almost) immediately or at some time in the future.

  • @asepos
    @asepos 4 года назад

    5:18 either using both feet or possibly has hand controls for gas and brake or just low brake fluid will also cause the brake lights to be constantly illuminated until the fluid sloshes back and forth at starts or stops

    • @BrianJoslyn
      @BrianJoslyn 4 года назад

      Movement of fluid doesn't cause lights to be on when they shouldn't be.
      Although the driver could've been playing with their headlights (which would cause the brake lights to come on too - but probably isn't what's happening in this video)...
      It can be faulty wiring, maybe something else was worked on that resulted in faulty wire connection, it could be a faulty light.

    • @asepos
      @asepos 4 года назад

      Brian Joslyn First, are you kidding me? How would playing with the headlight switch cause that? We’re talking third brake light being; on not the tail lights. I had an old Toyota once with this problem. Topped up the reservoir and it went away. Wasn’t a faulty brake pedal switch, as is usually the case when the high mount stays on, or a short may cause it too. Not every vehicle is the same but I’m not going to argue with you about it. Your obviously an ASE certified mechanic.

    • @BrianJoslyn
      @BrianJoslyn 4 года назад

      It's called being open minded and recognizing as many, or all, of the possibilities - as opposed to being tunnel visioned and/or closed minded.
      Brake fluid, whether empty, lack of or full, does not cause what was happening in this video. Brake fluid is specific to whether the brakes work or not.
      YOU just said a short can cause it - which is relevant to what I said, faulty wiring.
      No duh not all vehicles are the same. However, parts work the same.
      I'm not the one 'arguing.' Strictly respectful communication coming from me, unless you want to start with me. Obviously, you do... as per your disrespectful reply.
      One needs not be mechanic to know anything about vehicles. It's the same for anything. One needs not work in the legal field to know laws. I could go on, but you're obviously too tunnel visioned and closed minded. You can't even comprehend the similarity of a short and faulty wiring.
      LOL @ "wasn't the brake pedal switch"

    • @asepos
      @asepos 4 года назад

      #unsubscribe ok I’ve only worked on vehicles for 25 years. I’m closed minded. Whatever. You know more than me. Thank you I see the light now.

    • @BrianJoslyn
      @BrianJoslyn 4 года назад

      LOL that hashtag won't do anything.
      So, according to you, nothing I say can possibly be true - simply because you've "WORKED ON vehicles for 25 years."
      I said, "One needs not be a mechanic to know anything about vehicles." - which is true - yet, you don't even know the similarity of a short and faulty wiring.
      The brake pedal, is not a "switch." LOL
      You said I'm "obviously an ASE certified mechanic." - yet you just admitted you're not either.
      So, since you imply yourself as so smart, insisting nothing I've said is true despite the fact that it is (I don't communicate about anything I don't know is valid without using appropriate wording, which I've not needed to here) - tell me what you know about EVs. I already know plenty, want several and don't even have one (yet).

      @@Imalrightnot I understand what it's like to drive in LA. I live in west Riverside county. Still, the law's the law, and if you don't yield the right of way when you are trying to merge, you're part of the problem and not the solution.

      @@BrianJoslyn You obviously enjoy being verbose, yet all your words can't deny the fact that expecting someone to automatically move over so you can merge into their lane is disrespectful of drivers who are following the law, as well as dangerous and unwise. No, a cop cannot give you a ticket for not moving over for a zipper merger, but he CAN give the zipper merger a ticket for failing to yield. Politeness is an altogether different topic. I have no problem granting other drivers the ability to zipper merge as long as they signal, leave enough space between their vehicle and mine, and don't drive aggressively. My problem is with people like you who EXPECT it, and then get their noses out of joint when the world doesn't cater to their whims.

      @@BrianJoslyn You certainly DID imply you expect the other driver to move aside and let you merge. Why would you even be arguing with me if you didn't? You'd have to be pretty stupid to do that. (No I'm not being "disrespectful", nor am I calling you stupid.) The fact that you picked this non-sequitur tells me you're grasping at straws in order to at least appear to make a cogent argument for your position. You're attempting to use fogging to detract from an argument you cannot refute... that argument being, that failing to yield is illegal and dangerous. BTW, please specify the section and paragraph of CA DMV code that states that a citation can be written for not yielding to would-be zipper mergers (because that's the only way your claim can be pertinent to this discussion). You have a willful ignorance of the applicable law here. Respect? Respect for other drivers goes both ways and trying to butt in line by attempting an unwanted zipper merge ain't the way to get any.

      @@BrianJoslyn The more someone talks or writes to try to convince me the more I am convinced they are wrong and they know it. Here's what CA law says about yielding right-of-way when attempting to merge. "21804.
      "(a) The driver of any vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from any public or private property, or from an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all traffic ... approaching on the highway close enough to constitute an immediate hazard, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to that traffic until he or she can proceed with reasonable safety." More ridiculous complaining, everything has to be your way.
    FYI: That Tesla wasn't in "self driving" mode.
    As for that 'cop,' at that moment... was doing his job appropriately. Lights and siren running. Just be lucky you didn't go, ya know, cuz the light was green.
    There ARE vehicles that are made to be safe. It also depends on exactly how the impact happened. Instead of disrespectfully focusing on how that driver didn't die, try respectfully focusing on him/her living to see another day. Maybe (s)he had a vehicle malfunction. Unless that driver was trying to commit suicide, it's likely (s)he didn't do it purposely. Straight into a building doesn't make it any better.

    When see people wanting to cut in I hold my ground and get as close to the car in front of my like I'm their trailer or something if they hit me its their fault as you can't just throw on a signal and expect to be let in its the other cars job (signaling car's) to change lanes in a safe lawful manner.
