if you want to reuse the disk, insert a wheel bolt or two, the hammer on that bolts and try to pull the disk toward you in the same time. make sure to put the bolt in on enough treads bu ofcourse not complete cause the you lock the disk.

if you have the early sbc version you can disconnect the plug at the sbc pomp and leave the battery

Because I never pulled out the battery in the first place. I only disconnected the negative terminal from the battery so there would be no voltage going through the electrical system of the vehicle. To be honest you don't need to disconnect the battery. I just did it to be on the safe side. Hope you enjoyed!

this is correct the most important thing is NOT to open a door or the trunk when you disassemble the brakes or click the remote door fob.... if all is undisturbed during the disk work you do not need to disconnect the battery...HOWEVER! there are often unforeseen things happening like the wife left the purse in the car etc. etc. so it is BETTER to disconnect the battery. If you leave it connected and you have the brakes disassembled I THINK (not 100% certain but..) upon door opening etc. the SBC selftests or gets ready for going operational and pumps the brake! It might push out the piston, squeeze your fingers off who knows what. Pretty bad potentially.

Thank you for this video! I am learning to be my own mechanic and it helped me a lot! Next time can you please provide pictures of the tools along with the descriptions. As a new person to cars, it would have helped to know which model of each tool I should have prepared. Some of the tools I had were too wide etc.,. It might also be helpful to provide a “helpful tips and tricks” section. As mechanics you have great tips and tricks that can further streamline the process that is beginners might not know. Thanks again and would love to learn more from you!

I'm pretty sure the SBC backup battery in the engine bay should be unplugged too otherwise it would serve no purpose unless it was dead. Also removing the harness from the SBC pump is highly advised unless you like to roll the dice on potentially losing a finger doing this job.

If you take your key FOB and remove it far away from the scene than this is a non-issue.

I Forget to disconnect Battery for the SBC system. Big Trouble trying to clear that off Comp.

Does this car still have the SBC system or is it already the conventional system? Since you wen't thorough the trouble of disconnecting the battery I suspect the former?

Roberto, first off thanks a million for posting a great how to video. I have changed brakes on many different cars but this will be the first attempt on a Mercedes. The only question I have is when you took the cap off of the master cylinder reservoir. Couldn't that cause air to get in the system? Also I assume the rear is very similar to the front, but is there anything that is specific to the rear that I should be aware of? Again thanks for the video, its the best and most informative one that I've seen.

      +John Oates Hello John,
Thanks for your feedback, i really appreciate it! The only reason i removed the master cylinder reservoir cap was so i could have the ability to push back the brake pads when i was spreading them with the tool used in the video. I never noticed the reservoir over flow when i pushed the brake pads back so you can try retracting the brake pads with the reservoir cap on and see if you can retract the pads all the way back without them coming back to their normal position. The rear brakes on my car are not due for replacement yet but when the time comes i will definitely make a video. So keep an eye out for that video! I highly recommend having a brake fluid flush done after you replace your brakes so you can have new fluid in the system. I don't know how to do a brake flush on this vehicle yet but they don't charge that much at the dealership so i'd be worth it taking the vehicle to a dealership to have this done. Thanks for the support and good luck replacing your brakes!

Rob where did you get the caliper tool? I use a c-clamp but would love to add your tool to my collections. Thanks for making the video. I appreciate you taking the time to show everyone the lift points.

Folks, do yourselves a favor and get a scanner tool or STAR diagnostic tool. That allows you to set the brakes in service mode. No need to disconnect anything.

Hey Great Job and nice work on the vid. Can use a standard C clamp to push the caliper cylinder back or shoud I get that tool?
    Thanks

You can definitely use a c clamp. I just have the tool and figured I could share it with everyone since this tool makes it a lot easier to spread the brake pads. Good luck!

@thumpyls91 there were no issues with the vehicle after i connected the battery back up. All settings remained the same previous to disconnecting the battery. Like I stated in my last comment, you don't have to disconnect the battery, I just did to be on the safe side. Hope this video helped you out. Thanks for watching!

@Roberto Quijandria You forgot to put the orange colored cream on the brake pad, so they don't squeal, Robert. Otherwise a very informative video; I own a 2009 E350 4Matic in Silver, after viewing this video; I'm confident i can put the Brakes Pads and Rotors on my Benz.

Inte8ranD Hello, I put clear/blue brake grease behind the brake pads when putting them back on. I've never seen anyone put any type of cream ON the brake pads but I haven't had any issue with my brakes squeaking. I hope I helped you out & good luck working on your brakes when the time comes!

@Roberto Quijandria Gracia por responder, Robert. My bad, i didn't realize you put the blue brake grease behind the brake pads; That was what i meant, yet thanks for the response. Once I know what my schedule is on my new job I'll start posting videos on DIY stuff on my 2009 E350 4Matic in Silver. Again, thanks for the response, Robert. Muchas Gracias, Papa.

  • @robertoquijandria

@GovindWalia I actually borrowed the brake piston tool from one of the technicians at my job. However, I did some research and found a website where you can buy a similar, if not, the same exact brake piston tool I used in the video. I will list the website in the description along with the part number. Thanks for watching and I hope this tool makes your job a bit easier next time!

Hello,if you have chance to reply ,the break carrier that you removed and hung on a rope - to get at discs- should you need to remove that if you are only doing the pads ? And if removed you dont need to take out its bolts?? My garage just tried to remove the two large bolts in that carrier and broke them! Then spent whold day drilling them out as said could not put it back together .all day just to do break pads!! Cost a fortune.please advise.thank you!! 😢

Hello, I’m afraid i won’t be too much help. If they snapped those two bolts then the only way to remove those broken bolts would be to drill them out. Sorry. Best of luck!
