I admit, I cried a little while watching this. I have fond memories of my entire family coming together every year to make kimchi. Family members I don't even see for most of the year sometimes. And everyone would come over, laughing and talking and catching up, while the kids played and ran around like maniacs, just being loud and underfoot. And everyone coming together to eat fresh kimchi with slices of pork belly. But we moved to the US when I was a pre-teen, and I have not seen any of my family in the 30 years since. Watching this reminded me of the togetherness and joy, but also made me feel, sharply, how much tradition I've missed out on whilst growing up, and that caused a bit of painful nostalgia. It was wonderful to remember, but also a little sad for me. But thank you for bringing back those memories - it's nice to be reminded of them every now and then.
This is so wonderful. When I think about kimchi, I think of tradition and Korean history. It moves me how strong and resilient Koreans are to have preserved their culture and identity even on the brink of cultural genocide. Korea kept it together and have lasted through the ages. I wish I could be as prideful and patriotic to my own roots as you lot. Beautiful.
I make small batches of Kimchi at home because the flavour is amazing with everything, I had it today with my lunch! My only downside is I live in England and its harder and much more expensive to get the right ingredients, I can't get a hold of dry Korean chilli powder but I can buy Gochujang paste! It works well as a substitute, but I dream of going to Korea and eating proper family made Kimchi one day!
İ think the red pepper could be the same what turkish people use. Or similar. Try a turkish supermarket. Kırmızı Pul biber = red chili flakes. You have medium and really hot ones. They also use it in big amounts in everything
You can order the powder online, as well as the salted shrimp (which really are a crucial ingredient). Luckily both of these will keep basically forever.
So wonderful to see such a special family tradition,.. I got emotional to see it as any culture has their traditions and they are universal ways we express our love / unity Thank you so much for the amazing quality and beauty , quality, poetic ness of each of your videos !🙏🏼
@@hamimommy , obrigada por tão lindas imagens! Aquece o coração vê-los construir memórias com as crianças e perpetuar a cultura. Sim, muitos estrangeiros apreciam kimchi! Thanks so much!
This is my personal favorite video of yours. I've always lived in Europe and now I'm in the US, so I didn't know about this Korean tradition. In Italy, where I come from, we also used to have similar communal traditions (although not as important as the kimchi making day is for you), but I feel like they got lost almost everywhere now. It's amazing to see that even modern families in Korea maintain this.
This video filled my heart with such warmth and love it was so beautiful seeing family all together laughing and chatting whilst making traditions and precious memories which Hami will have into her adult life making kimchi with family. Just magical. Thank you so much for sharing ❤
This reminds so much the families in south of Italy, when it’s time to prepare homemade tomato sauce, or when it’s the season of olives pick up to do olive oil… They work all together, everyone has a task, and they close the working day at the dining table cooking and eating together… World is really small after all, and people is not so different from one country to another! Thank you for your wonderful videos, they are so heartwarming ❤️ Hugs from Italy!
Wow! What you're describing sounds wonderful. I'm from Spain and I love Italy and Italian culture and traditions.
I always fascinated by how different cultures have same traditions. In Turkey we have similar winter preperations like making tomato paste, dried soup, pickles and whole women of the family and even neighbours include these event :) Thank you for sharing this funny and loud event :) Your video reminded me good old days.
I feel you on this one. I was taught at an early age to cook and prepare meals for my parents. After my grandfather passed away, tension in the family grew and really escalated after my parents divorced. The environment became so toxic that I found myself working multiple jobs while in college, just so that I wouldn't have to go home. I still feel overwhelmed with a sense of dread every time I get a call from a certain family member. I've always felt like I missed out having this kind of bond portrayed in this video. And while I still get together with extended family (my age group) from time to time, I do find my alone time peaceful and rejuvenating.
@@khmerchef So sad to hear. But I guess nowadays most families don't get along. I thank God that even though my parents died while we were young and got split with my siblings to live in different relatives homes, we grew up loving each other, calling and visiting. And we've always been close, especially now that we are all grown and starting adult life. We do fight sometimes as a normal family but we've always known that we only have each other.
This is so beautiful it made me emotional. The power of family. I am 30 hours away by air from them and I lost my mom in November. You are so richly blessed to pass traditions down to your daughter.
What a beautiful video. Making Kimchi is a lot of work, but when the whole family comes together for this event, it makes it truly special. Especially the meal afterwards. Loved the video. It warmed my heart to see how much love your family has for each other. Hami and her little cousin are so adorable, I love watching them interact together. ❤❤❤

My grandson got to have kimchi at school for Korean day and he has fallen in love with it! I have a korean son in law, and his mother will be wanting to feed our boy as much kimchi as he can eat. We are Irish and Congolese by ancestry so we have a very broad range of foods that we enjoy cooking together.
This is amazing! It reminds me of when my grandparents put up (canned) the season's garden harvest back in the 1950's. GF would make the tomato sauce with green peppers, onions, garlic, and just a pinch of sugar for the base of Italian sauces. GM was in charge of all the other vegetables (green beans, carrots, etc.) and canning fruits for future pies and jam making. One whole wall in the basement was lined with jars for about 20 feet wide by 10 feet tall, several canning jars deep and lasted until the next summer, when fresh vegetables were available from the garden. What great memories! Thank you for sharing your family's harvest tradition!
I don't know why but I'm kinda feeling lonely after watching this beautiful family moment.....I want a family like this but never had one...my family members are all kinda dependent on themselves so they don't ask for a friendly moment together......but I want to feel something like your family.....may god bless this beautiful family....I'm from Bangladesh BTW.....❤❤
Omg like a big kimchi party!!
Look how happy Hami is while helping. It 🌼😊 Probably a new experience for me. Do share some more of these family traditions it looks so fun making and the best happiness comes while sharing that yummy treat with people you love.🧅🥬🌸Garden camping around a cozy bonfire and some marshmallows to go with it, what a great ending for the day.🤍
I just love this! Im a Filipino but i always have kimchi in my ref, I love how the family gets together for this❤ Thanks for an amazing video, will be watching this again with my son tonight ❤
Thank you Hamimommy and family for being so generous in sharing such a lovely tradition 💕 I think it’s wonderful that such an activity brings family members together . In a world that many old customs get lost in time, it is so important to pass these down to the younger generations as part of their culture. What fun it must be to make delicious Kimchi together!
How beautiful to see families coming together to uphold traditions. 💕 I have fond memories of me and my family coming together to prepare and share a meal. We need more of that around the world.
Beautiful to see this tradition, the moments of family and shared culture and food. I haven't been able to see my family for 4 years now because of the pandemic. Thank you for sharing this.
Sou brasileira e amo a cultura coreana.
Felicitaciones. Hermosa familia!
This is a great video. I guess that it is not only taste good but is also a “piece of art” of the whole family. I am always looking forward to your new videos ♥️
So interesting! We have a similar custom in Romania, when we prepare the cabbage to be preserved in brine for the winter. Of course, our recipe is much simpler, that is why it is only the usual family and not the extended family that takes part in the process. Our recipe requires primarily only raw cabbage, salt, black pepper dried dill stems and bay leaves, but still, some of the cabbage should be grated or shredded, that's why it takes usually 2 or 3 people to finish everything in time. I once had kimchi and I found it very, very tasty. But I don't have the courage to make it myself.
It was lovely to see you all working together as a family and the evening barbecue..I just wish they had let the poor little dog out to join in, he/she looked so sad waiting at the door and not being included 🐾🙏🌺
Dieu benisse votre famille.
İ'm a Franco Turkish living in France, and i love kimchi, my daughter make this. Before, me and my family didn't know kimchi. One day my daughter made this and we discovered kimchi. And now, near all meal we have kimchi. İ think all turkish people will like kimchi because of the taste. İt's like turşu near the meal in Turkey or in France "cornichons" pickles ...sorry, I only found this to enhance the taste of the meals 😅 Thank you for sharing. Greetings from France 🤗
I lived in Korea for two years because my bff, whose Korean, had moved back there from the states. I remember smelling kimchi, and it threw me off. Couldn't eat it. My friend grandmother invited us to her home, and she was preparing kimchi. Their family was there. The set up very similar to this one. I didn't know what to do, so I worked on the garlic, something simple. The process was long as yes the labor these women put in was unbelievable!!! I tasted the kimchi, and fell in love!! This little black girl now love eating kimchi. My bff family was so hospitable, and welcoming. They made me seem like I was part of the family. Such a beautiful experience. I definitely miss the authentic kimchi, and will definitely be visiting my friend and her family next year.
Ths brought back so many fond memories of the times the whole family would gather to make sausages black pudding ham bacon head cheese and all other things you can out of a pig... the teamwork and chatter have the exact same atmosphere🥰❤

Made kimchi today at my home with my coworkers. It was a lot of fun showing them and listening to happy children in the background. ❤
Merci lydie 🙈❤️
I love kimchi 💖
It's so heart warming to see the whole family working on a project together with lots of laughter and love.
Good seeing family making kimchi together, lovely family 👨👩👧👦💑
Nossa!

Look how happy Hami is while helping. It 🌼😊 Probably a new experience for me. Do share some more of these family traditions it looks so fun making and the best happiness comes while sharing that yummy treat with people you love.🧅🥬🌸Garden camping around a cozy bonfire and some marshmallows to go with it, what a great ending for the day.🤍
Hami enjoyed being a part of ‘Kimchi Makers’ 😂

Thank you Hamimommy and family for being so generous in sharing such a lovely tradition 💕 I think it’s wonderful that such an activity brings family members together . In a world that many old customs get lost in time, it is so important to pass these down to the younger generations as part of their culture. What fun it must be to make delicious Kimchi together!
How beautiful to see families coming together to uphold traditions. 💕 I have fond memories of me and my family coming together to prepare and share a meal. We need more of that around the world.
What a beautiful tradition! This video will mean a lot to your daughter as she grows up. Thank you for sharing!
I love this how the whole family are together bonding, making kimchi, and having fun. Sweet memories.
Beautiful to see this tradition, the moments of family and shared culture and food. I haven't been able to see my family for 4 years now because of the pandemic. Thank you for sharing this.
when I see your videos my heart fills with joy

Sou brasileira e amo a cultura coreana.

Esses momentos doces em família, enche a alma e o coração.
I don't know why, but I find it so satisfying watching Koreans making Kimchi during this time of year 🤗
It was lovely to see you all working together as a family and the evening barbecue..I just wish they had let the poor little dog out to join in, he/she looked so sad waiting at the door and not being included 🐾🙏🌺
What a beautiful tradition! Your family sounds so happy to be together! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
This is so beautiful the whole family helped it’s like when we all gather to make tamales 🫔 .. very peaceful to watch
When I get a notification that you have uploeded a video, my happy time begins 📸❣️🍊♥️🥳.😘🥰🤩❤️

İt's like turşu near the meal in Turkey or in France "cornichons" pickles ...sorry, I only found this to enhance the taste of the meals 😅
Thank you for sharing.
Greetings from France 🤗
Obrigada por compartilhar sua cultura conosco. 🤗🇧🇷

Really love how Hammi enjoys her food so much . God bless her , she really is an adorable little girl xx🥰🥰🥰❤️
Ths brought back so many fond memories of the times the whole family would gather to make sausages black pudding ham bacon head cheese and all other things you can out of a pig... the teamwork and chatter have the exact same atmosphere🥰❤
