To: @orispicer4598 - The chimpanzee you were no doubt referring to has, what are known as lipomas. They can occur in humans and is excess fatty tissue. They are benign and are usually removed for cosmetic purposes so are unlikely to have a high priority for surgical intervention. However as a 'quality of life' issue, I would consider these, as large enough for intervention.
I've been wondering about Carly! I think I first heard her story at year ago, maybe longer. Her father had a vasectomy, but no one checked to make sure that the vasectomy really worked. Obviously, it didn't .... Carly's one of the cute Oops Babies.
To: @campusman1957 - Individually a single 'lump' is called a lipoma. It consists of nothing more than 'fatty tissue'. They are completely benign, can vary in size and often, such as in humans, can safely be left untreated. People can have the tissue removed for 'cosmetic' reasons but it is generally left for the individual to decide if they wish to do so. In the case of Sarah, in this video, and because of a possible detrimental effect to her lifestyle I believe she has since had hers removed.
I work at another sanctuary for chimpanzees that does get some snow in the winter and we definitely let the chimps play with snow :) They like to eat it mostly
Chimp sanctuary Northwest in Washington state gets a lot of snow and they let them play in it some of the chimps like it others don't and like the other guy said most of them like to eat it. Is usually the younger ones and the males that like to play in it most of the females especially the older ones don't really like it.
I dont know about this center. It may vary, but apes dont have a big need for animal protein. In the wild, they hunting for meat frequency is directly related to the scarcity of other sources of food, which i think is not the case here. And anyway the usual intake of animal matter in their diet it's usually around up to 2% of their total diet.
I often wonder . If we believe there that intelligent. Could it be possible to return them back to there natural habitat. That would be great if possible . Even if they still needed a little help.
Most have spent 30 years in cages being experimented on. They could never be released to the wild now, most of them have either never lived in the wild or were captured as infants. They have been provided food and shelter their whole lives, it would take years to teach them the skills needed to survive in the wild and at their ages (most of them anyhow) that would just be cruel. Almost like taking an older abused dog and “setting it free” in the wilderness. The only real option is to give them the best possible treatment they can, let them spend their senior years in comfort.
@@caridennis3171 Thank you for your reply. It makes sense. You are a very intelligent person. I just want for all the best. There very interesting to me. Just wish this never happened. There has to be a better way to preform those experiments.
In Sanctuaries and rescue centers in Africa and other places they study every ape individually and monitorize their skills and personality, and then they select the ones who can be released free in certain special places or brought back to their original place. Others have to keep in the center, and usually serve as a help for the newcomers to get integrated in the chimp society. Check the JGI Tchimpounga center. It's amazing. These apes are taking nothing from the children you teach. Your country is one of the wealthiest on the planet and has plenty of money to spend on middle schools: it just does not have the political will. Talk to your county’s voters. These chimps, many of them spent decades imprisoned and subjected to what amounts to torture, in the service of human beings: many were used to find cures and test medicines that may save the lives of your middle schoolers.
There is no shortage of money in your country to do this and ALSO to pay people a living wage so they can raise and educate their children with dignity. There is more than enough money to go around. But shareholders donate to political parties to purchase policies and legislation that keeps an ever greater slice of all production profit for shareholders and executives. They get a far larger slice of every pie than they got 50 years ago. They pay a smaller proportion of their actual gains in tax than ordinary folks do. Because they have paid for the legislation to make tax exemptions and loopholes for themselves. In return they give money to both political parties, their campaigns, and the individuals who are elected. In all the years that these chimps were abused, imprisoned in solitary confinement in tiny cages, driven insane with nothing to do, THAT DID NOT IMPROVE THE ECONOMIC RESOURCES YOUR COUNTRY GAVE TO ITS CHILDREN.
I'm glad you're not my kids' teacher. For starters, If you were capable of a modicum of research, you'd have your questions answered. The NIH does pay funds to CH. The bulk of funds comes from private donations. Btw, the NIH isn't your 'dept':they're the same folks who used the chimps in the first place. It seems fitting they help them now. But hey, if it perks you up, you'll be happy to know that many chimps die before even getting to Chimp Haven. To be clear, these chimps have been used in medical experiments - many treated cruelly which also sounds like a great volunteer gig for you. In any case, lots of us are happy to donate to feed and vet these animals - ones who didn't ask to be held hostage and frequently tortured. It's a drop in the proverbial bucket.
