Thanks for nice playing, Bro! I got AM50 Ibanez from 1983 and although she was low-end in line of am/as models in the time of production, now she's really hi-end instrument at stage and studio work
He’s amazing aye! I met him some years ago when he played in NZ - he hired my Mesa boogie amp. I’m pretty sure it was an AM50 he had with him at the time
I've always hankered after a JSM100 but my SA2200 covers that style with change to spare. I do have the JSM10. It's a lovely wee guitar and I think that'll satiate the GAS. Also the JSM10 has the tri-sound switch, which I love. Anyways, the JSM100 is my favourite guitar of yours that you play. Really suits you.
G'day Nick. Enjoying your channel. I have an AS200 from the early 80s. One of the early ones like Scofield used. It was converted to lefty and had a goldtop refin on the front to cover it up. Came to me like that and with Gibson humbuckers. I replaced those with humbucker size Lollars: a Charlie Christian neck and P90 bridge. A unique and great sounding guitar now, bold and punchy at gig volumes. I really like the ebony board too. My only grumble is the fretboard is a titch narrow for my hands.
Great review! No nonsense - here’s why it’s great, and here’s how it sounds. Killer playing, too! I’m desperately trying to figure out what my next gigging guitar purchase is going to be, and this totally swayed me. Have known about these JS models forever, but have always been on the fence about them. One thing I do know about Ibanez is that I can probably order one of these online and it will be perfect. Thanks again! (BTW - I’m a massive Lalah fan. 😉)
I have an Ibanez AM205 from 1985 (also a great guitar) & in many ways is a smaller bodied version of the JSM, more the size of a Gibson 339 if the 335 is a little too big bodied for you
great playing and demo...was wondering about string gauge.. I noticed that the JSM100 comes set up with 13's...and not sure if I'll need to make adjustments to the guitar for 10s which I prefer.. thanks
Honestly, for me, they make the whole string change saga easier! Save on vintage Fender slot tuners I have locking on all my guitars. And they are Gotoh 510 locking. As you say, they are the best.
Very cool man, yes! String changes are quicker. I have locking tuners on a few guitars and I should just put them on them all as it’s just better. Thanks
I have the same guitar and I love it. The sound in the opening solo is so Scofield... beautiful! How did you get it? which amp/overdrive models? I always found the bridge pu in my JSM100 way too bright.
@@lorenzo.n thanks. All my videos are recorded direct via a fractal FM9. The amp model is a vibratolux and a BB preamp in this. A bit of verb and delay. Cheers
I've got one of these and I find the neck pickup too muddy and I don't like the three way pick switch on the neck. It has an amazing build quality, neck is fantastic - just need to fix the pickups.. Any ideas? It might just need a bight cap on the volume pot?
@@robertritchie2860 interesting. I really like the neck pickup in this guitar. I did have the same problem in my AR520, where the neck pickup was muddy. Suited a jazz tone but not much else. I replaced the pickup with a Mr. Glyn integrity 5% underwound which cleaned it up nicely. Check out any videos of that guitar I’ve made and you’ll see what i mean. I can highly recommend Glyn’s pickups. Good price, handmade, excellent quality
Hey Nick, love the channel. Could you talk about how to play "outside" like you did in the intro? Is it pentatonic shifting? How would one learn and practice playing this sound? Thanks!
Sure thing. I’ve covered a bunch of this already if you look back on past episodes of guitar daily but I’m due to do an update on it so I’ll make a video about it
Oh wow, 13’s is definitely heavy gauge. No wonder it was hard to bend. You might need to give it a setup if you go down 2 string gauges but it’s worth it. Cheers
@@sil.lum.quan. I’ve only tried the jsm10 and it’s good. It’s 95% the same as a JSM100 so that will suit some people. I haven’t tried a jsm20 so can’t say. Thanks for watching
Superb Playing Nick.I tried one of these guitars through my Bud 10 and it sounded superb for jazz.👌

Great playing, great post! Thanks! I’ll be looking around for one these! I’m NOT sinking $4K+ on a 335!😮
Thanks. Yes, a 335 is a lot of cash these days and luckily there are other options like the JSM100 or the Collings guitars etc which are all good
Love this guitar, Nick!

Im not familiar with the AM205. Sounds good to me though, as I prefer the small 335 type guitars - just more comfy to play. Nice

Mine came with 11’s if I remember correctly. I use 11-49 elixirs on it. Any guitars I buy I take straight to a tech to be setup to my liking
Stellar!
Thanks
The only mod I’ve made is locking tuners, keeping the original buttons.
Do you like the half brass nut?
Edit😂you just answered that!

Go 50s wiring! If you roll back the volume the guitar cleans up while unwanted "mud" goes away. Let a qualified technician do the job. So rewarding!.
