Okay, but like can we acknowledge how cool it is that the high score theme is a remix of Donkey Kong Jr.'s level 1 theme? I mean, it's kind of a messy remix, but it's cool that it's there!
Yeah but the hit detection and controls are still somewhat ackward, for instance you cannot hit left or right and jump atonce, you have to walk first before hitting jump, and if you want to clime up a ladder or grab a hammer, you have to standing pixel perfect to be able to do that, and if you are hitting a fire ball with a hammer while standing on a rivet you will fall down, also if you jump too early on those elivators you will fall trough it and dodging those springs is nearly impossible because those places and save spots are narrow,(there might be even no save spot at the last ladder as the patterns of those bouncing springs are random) sometimes those springs could even hit you when standing on the forlast laddar thus leading to an unfair cheap death, LIKELY after several hectic attemps while yelling and bashing i finally beated that elivator level on that sluggish and slow emulator,at difficuilty level 2,PHEW😁
There was also Super DK, which had the same ColecoVision version that has the same 3 levels with addition to the Pie Factory level, but used the Coleco Adam design and when touching the fireballs, you can’t die, the conveyer belts also don’t move, and there are no pies. The Pie Factory level in Super DK had different sound effects
Yeah, too bad there was never an Adam version of Super DK, but at least Donkey Kong for the Coleco Adam contained all 4 levels including the Pie Factory level that has accurate sounds effects and elements to match levels 1, 3 and 4
Yeah k realized this too, not only are all 4 levels from the arcade version included but the intro, cut scenes,,animations and all enemy’s and colors as well,my only complain is that those levels are a bit simplified like the rivet stage, BTW am shocked that the colecovision version is sooo much more simplified, heck even the rivet stage just has the same color sheme as the barrel stage, and with so much missing things i just can’t believe that coleco and nintendo signed a deal to port and put donkeykong as a pack in game, not only that but nintendo was still impressed by it,thing is the adam version should,ve be the colecovision version instead😟😟
I didn't know Donkey Kong had 4 ports. I am wondering if the first 2 stages were supposed to be mirrored where Kong stood or am I just used to the arcade. Great video
They look mirrored because they are both missing levels/girders. On the first level there should be another girder which would put DK on the left side. The second level should have 4 girders as well, instead of 3. All home ports' 1st level are like this because the DK arcade monitor is a lot longer vertically then TVs at the time.
This is a better version than the CV version. Four stages, return of a lot of the animations and the intermission screens, as well as the return of the jumpsprings, but there is still cut animations and the barrels still don’t turn into firesprites when they hit the oil drum
Also those killing animations of sprites are still missing and all those levels are still simplified and the hit & colission detection are bad. But other then that it’s still a good port and a huge improvement over the original cartride version of it.
no you cannot. Adam games are meant for an Adam. There are colecovision games that they they are for Adam too but the problem is you cant get Adam anything on a Colecovision
There was a 32k Super DK cartridge (adapter needed and never released for sale) that ran on CV for Adam trade shows that looks quite similar to this one. I've got a dump of it (obviously out there). It could be fit on a working standard size CV cartridge today. It certainly runs on standard CV emulators. It's still not as good as the C64 port that was available back then (nearly arcade quality with all 4 levels) and of course the arcade version is better yet (Mame has had it for over a quarter century. I even had it in 1999 on a 400Mhz Celeron running Win98).I run a Mame version off my Nvidia Shield now in my home theater (it can run Coleco and C64 versions too plus Atari, Intellivision, etc).
This game did saved nintendo of america from futher financial troubles but it did not saved the western videogame industry. But we can say that supermariobros along with rob the robot with it’s own 2 games and the nes itself did pretty much saved the western videogame industry.
possibly, or nintendo might could,ve tried something else like coming up with their pac man clone in wich mario had to collect all coins in a maze while avoiding koopa creatures and call it “mario’s coin hunt” or call it “maze man” etc,,, Note: that We should’t forget that radar scope was a galaxian rip off while donkeykong was actually a space panic rip off, and supermariobros was inspired from pac land. So it’s not so strange idea about a pacman rip off by nintendo in case donkeykong failed🤣
@@jesuspadronpuyol745 nintendo was making a deal with atari to bring the famicom to America but after seeing an ilegal port of donkey Kong on a coleco pc, this game, Nintendo broke the deal with atari and relased the nes themselves and the rest is story, Mario bros was an afterthought, donkey Kong being a hit first is why Mario exists
The programmer is trying to squeeze the level from the high resolution arcade into the lower 256x192 Colecovision/ADAM resolution. The arcade used a vertical monitor. Home TV's are more horizontal 4:3 aspect ratio.

That is so like Pauline. She just leaves her purse and umbrella laying around anywhere, then expects somebody to pick them up for her...
This is better than the standard colecovision version.
It was ment to be as the super game module was replaced with the adam

@masonwrigley875 yes I actually have that version on emulation. I only wish it were Adam version

This is such a cool looking pre nes port, its a shame the adam was apparently a real disaster
0:09 This is the best theme about an captured pauline ever!
Wow this game looks some much better then the Colecovision game that was the pack in.

Oh, there is A LOT more than 4 ports.
Not true. The C64 port (both Atarisoft and Ocean) feature the top girder on the first screen.
I think by ports, he means screens.
Where’s the secret level?
where in thr hell can i get a copy?

Why is Donkey Kong standing on the right of the scaffolding?
It has only five floors. Arcade has six
this version is very good, but when i play it, it glitches, please help
Can someone help me find this RoM? I see the super Dk and Adam version donkey Kong but neither are as nice as this one…
Would have been nice to see onscreen scoring on this version. Other than that it looks pretty good. 👍 👍
Can you play colecovision Adam games on a regular colecovision

BITD...I never got past screen 2
Yes the reason is the cement factory level
what emulator did you use?
ColEm
So good! But why did they flip the first board?
I wonder that too

Something is off about version. While technically better than the standard Colecovision version, it runs so much slower and more awkward.
Buenas noches!! Dónde puedo conseguir el emulador de colecoadam?
ColeM
Better than the Other Versions
EXEPT FOR ARCADE, NES, WINDOWS FAN GAME AND C64
Ooof ooh better than arcade 0:24
The only version that looks better and sounds betternis the Nes version but that version doesnt have cement factory level?so Adam wins
CA donkey Kong is like CV donkey Kong
