at the top right of ableton theres a button that says midi if you hit that the page should turn blue. any buttun that is blue you can press with your mouse. after that hit the 2nd midi tab and hit the button you want to use for the new page and repeat the process in this video
I hope this tutorial was helpful! Also remember to leave annotations on. Comment below if there is another tutorial you would like to see, whether it be about the launchpad, or production :) Also, if you wana check out some of my new music click here :) soundcloud.com/subfermusic
Had the Launchpad for about a year now, and this is the first time I really learned how to make the lights work properly. Thanks for a well explained tut.
Thank you so much for a straightforward, to-the-point tutorial that doesn't waste time and is filled with useful information. Very easy to follow - and this is coming from someone who just used a LaunchPad and the Ableton software for the first time an hour ago!
This is very useful, absolutely the best tutorial I've seen since starting to use my launchpad. You answered so many questions, and told me so much I didn't know. You asked if we'd like to see more tutorials, and I say absolutely. I also want to mention that you are the person to push me over the edge on buying a launchpad this holiday season, and I'm loving the feel so far. Thanks man, you're a real inspiration.
Thanks for the awesome feedback and the kind words of support! It's always nice to know I could help someone! I'm looking forward to see what you make with your launchpad :)
AMAZING tutorial. It was extremely helpful and informative! I have just recently purchased a launchpad S and personally, i would like to see something along the lines of starting out in the VERY beginning and what to do from step 1...ya know? I understand if this isnt possible because it is sort of a huge request, but it would e great if something like this was available. Keep up the good work!
Never say that it probably wasn't the best. This is actually one of the best tutorials for this that I have found. The examples were absolutely key in me understanding what is going on. Thank you for this amazing tutorial!
This was really helpfull for me,i learnt the basics for the light show on my launchpad pro. Also when you put the launchpad as input and output for the Launchpad Pro you have to select channel 6 for the lights to work.
I think it would be wonderful and great if you could make a tutorial about how to add in samples, custom samples, and/or loops inside Ableton. Or how to make custom drums with a light show.. Just something along those lines yanno.. Anyways this was a very helpful tutorial thank you very much!
Hi SUBFER, first of all, gotta thanks for a such helpful tutorial. But I have run into a problem that my mk2 doesnt light up after I use other ppl's project file. All the setting are right, and the in/out put are all set to mk2. I got sounds come out, but just no light. Do you know what possibly can go wrong?
Thanks so much. I started deconstructing Nev's projects, and i thought this was super duper complicated, but you have shown that it's really not. I might try this sometime. Thank you!
How do you "turn down" other parts of the music so that you get clearer samples? Or how do strip the vocals or the drums from a track? And THANKS A MILLION for this tutorial.
Are people actually triggering individual samples live on all these light show videos or are they just pre programming and tapping the buttons in time to make it look pretty?
Question, I am using a Launchpad S. When I changed the velocity to 117, (green obviously) it just showed as default yellow. Same for 111 (orange). But 75 (red) worked and showed up just fine. If I choose the Random knob instead of the Out Hi, it'll eventually show green and orange but I want to know what I'm doing wrong for it to not show up as those colors manually.
TheHunterkiller95 I think the numbers are different for the Launchpad S. In this video I was using the older version so I don't know what they are for the S. You might have to look it up or if anyone else knows hopefully they'll reply to your comment.
Can I add more Shifts in one Chord or do I have to create another page to it? Cause I want to have the square lighting after the 6th shift, and not before (that is the case if I create another page)
Hi SUBFER! I have a launchpad and was just wondering if there is any way that you can assign lights only to certain pages on the launchpad? Like when I press the button that takes me to my next mage of samples, it has the same lights as the first page, but I want to make them different. Any Ideas???
Yes, I am going to do an in-depth tutorial soon. But basically you would use different chains in the midi effect rack and assign them to a macro knob to change them with buttons
Great tutorial =). What version of ableton do you use? I just got my launchpad and im using live lite. They gave me a code and said when u use it will it will become launchpad edition but its not working. Are they the same?
Hey nice video! Just wondering, I have done everything you said here and it all works fine! But, how do i set different lights to come up when im in different presets (by presets i mean the buttons on the right of your launchpad) E.G I need a green light when in the first set but a red one when in the second mode.
I have cut all the song and setup them in my launchpad. Now I can play when I press the buttons. Now I want to ask that how to program lights of each audio track on launchpad(Sorry I am noob because I just bought launchpad few days ago.
Hi ! Thnak you very much for your tutorial ! I have a question : how can i put the MIDI clip with the lights i created on a key that already has an audio clip in a drum rack ? Because i have my drum rack with my samples, but when i assign the lights to the same key, the sound doesn't play :/ I don't know if you understand, my english isn't really good ...
For the covers? How I can make two screens like One screen has full of sounds, how I can past to another screen on my launchpad with the right buttons?

Are people actually triggering individual samples live on all these light show videos or are they just pre programming and tapping the buttons in time to make it look pretty?
Both haha. Each button triggers a sample and light typically. It's why I'm kind of shying away from launchpad covers right now to be honest.
