When parents don’t introduce their kids to faith but say “we aren’t going to push any thing on them. We are just going to let them decide for themselves”it’s the lazy approach. They make themselves sound morally superior when in reality they do not take this approach with anything else. They educate them in school. They teach them about everything from public manners to what to believe about politics, Santa Claus, etc. We train our kids up so that when they are adults they are actually _prepared_ to decide for themselves and to instruct their children likewise.

Because the human brain makes things up, which is precisely why we have a world with religion.
If we teach our children critical thinking, they won't fool for religious claims.
Secularism is the only rational position to hold.

Giving them the tools to work out what is and isn't objectively true is essential.

People fool for their claims because they haven't been taught the aforementioned subjects.

    • @chrisblanc663
      @chrisblanc663 5 месяцев назад

@@WhoThisMonkeyyeah, heaven forbid (pun intended) that parents teach their kids a base line of morals. Religion is one of the tools that can be mentioned. It can be dangerous like a saw, or it could be useful, like a saw… it’s not inherently dangerous the way some people try to characterize it.
My life as an example. What have I ever done that has harmed others or myself? I work hard, I have a degree in education and teach special needs kids, I’m honest with others, I help people, give time to my church and help out in my community. I have a loving wife who I’m devoted to, and children who I support spiritually, as well as temporally. My religion is the foundation of my life as I strive to love God with my whole being, and by so doing, I love others as myself, so I have no desire to harm others, because it would be like hurting myself. I’m not a perfect person by any means, but my religion hasn’t proven dangerous or harmful in any way, very much the opposite.
It’s a bit trite to pretend that “religion” is the problem with the world, when what is the real problem are human beings. We are the constant variable. As long as there are people, there will be problems, and I’m not interested in a final solution to the problem.

What is the difference between The Old Testament & The new Testament? Are they part of the Holy Bible?
The New Testament in summary is about the life, ministry and death of Jesus Christ. It is written by Mathew, Mark, Luke, John and Paul. It begins with The birth of Jesus and goes to his death plus a few more years as the Apostles do some additional preaching. It is my favorite book.
The Old Testament is written by many Profits and begins with the creation of the earth. The people multiply in great numbers, become wicked and our destroyed by the flood with the exception of Noah’s family who build the Ark, take two of all animals and begins another society of people. These become the story of the Israelites. Their enslavement by the Romans. Moses leads them out of Egypt and into the wilderness and then they become a number of different societies and become wicked. Many Profits attempt to get the to repent without a lot of luck. The timing for all of this is a bit unclear but is generally considered to be approx, 5500 to 4500 BC and then up to the birth of Jesus at approx. 10 BC.
Both great scriptures and need yo be read..
In Christianity, the Old Testament is the name of the first part the Bible, the one written before Jesus Christ. The Quran calls the Old Testament the Tawrat.
In Judaism, the collection of inspired books is known as Tanakh; scholars often use the name Hebrew Bible. Both Jews and Christians believe these texts to be holy. According to them, God inspired men to write the collection.
The collection contains different texts, called "books", about God, and the people of Israel.
It can be divided into several sections: the Torah, the History of Israel, the Prophets and Wisdom books.
The first to have used this name (in Latin: vetus testamentum) was probably Tertullian in the 2nd century.
Different religious communities include (or exclude) certain books. The Roman Catholic Church uses the books that were included in Saint Jerome's Latin translation of the Old Testament (his works is called Vulgate). The Eastern Orthodox church uses the ancient Greek translation of Jewish sacred writings called the Septuagint. The Eastern Orthodox list of sacred books has a few more books than the Roman Catholic list. Protestant Bibles stick more closely to the books in the Jewish collection (the Tanakh) but list them in the order found in the Septuagint.
To Jews, there is no "Old Testament." The books that Christians call the New Testament are not part of Jewish scripture. The so-called Old Testament is known to us as Written Torah or the Tanakh...The text of each book is more or less the same in Jewish translations as what you see in Christian bibles, although there are some occasional, slight differences in the numbering of verses and there are some significant differences in the translations.
The books of the Old Testament in order from first to last are:
    Genesis (50 Chapters)
    Exodus (40 Chapters)
    Leviticus (27 Chapters)
    Numbers (36 Chapters)
    Deuteronomy (34 Chapters)
    Joshua (24 Chapters)
    Judges (21 Chapters)
    Ruth (4 Chapters)
    1 Samuel (31 Chapters)
    2 Samuel (24 Chapters)
    1 Kings (22 Chapters)
    2 Kings (25 Chapters)
    1 Chronicles (29 Chapters)
    2 Chronicles (36 Chapters)
    Ezra (10 Chapters) (a)
    Nehemiah (13 Chapters)
    Esther (10 Chapters)
    Job (42 Chapters)
    Psalms (150 Chapters)
    Proverbs (31 Chapters)
    Ecclesiastes (12 Chapters)
The Song of Solomon (8 Chapters)
    Isaiah (66 Chapters)
    Jeremiah (52 Chapters)
    Lamentations (5 Chapters)
    Ezekiel (48 Chapters)
    Daniel (12 Chapters) (d)
    Hosea (14 Chapters)
    Joel (3 Chapters)
    Amos (9 Chapters)
    Obadiah (1 Chapter)
    Jonah (4 Chapters)
    Micah (7 Chapters)
    Nahum (3 Chapters)
    Habakkuk (3 Chapters)
    Zephaniah (3 Chapters)
    Haggai (2 Chapters)
    Zechariah (14 Chapters)
    Malachi (4 Chapters)
    Notes[
a - Orthodox version: There is an additional book called 1 Esra, this makes the current Ezra -> 2 Ezra
b - Catholic and Orthodox versions; lacking in Protestant versions
c - Can only be found in Orthodox version
d - Catholic and Orthodox versions contain verses not found in the original Hebrew
e - Lacking in Protestant versions
The New Testament is part of the Christian Bible, and the most important religious writing of Christianity. It tells the story of Jesus Christ, his followers, and the beginnings of Christianity. It was written in Koine Greek.
The New Testament is made up of different parts. In total, there are 27 texts in the New Testament. The Eastern Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church and the Protestant Churches have the same texts, but their arrangement varies; the Syriac Churches and the Ethiopian Churches have different versions. The Syriac Churches do not put Peter 2, John 2 and 3, Jude and the Revelations in the New Testament. The Ethopian Churches do not have a common canon.
    Overview
Each of the Gospels tells the story of Jesus Christ, whom Christians believe is the Messiah and Son of God and was born to save the world from sin. Each of the Gospels tell basically somewhat the same story, with a little more or less detail from the other. Muslims believe that the Qu’ran, also called the Final Testament, succeeded the New Testament.
    The Four Gospels
The traditional authors are attributed to the gospels but are actually anonymous.
The Gospel of Matthew, traditionally the Apostle Matthew, son of Alphaeus.
The Gospel of Mark, traditionally Mark, who wrote down the narrative given by the Apostle Simon, called Peter.
The Gospel of Luke, traditionally Luke, who was a companion of the Apostle Paul, who was formerly called Saul.
The Gospel of John, traditionally John the Apostle.
    Acts of the Apostles
Acts of the Apostles (or Acts), the story of the apostles after the Gospels' story
    Pauline epistles
Pauline epistles, the 13 or 14 letters believed to be written by Saint Paul the Apostle
    Romans
    First Corinthians
    Second Corinthians
    Galatians
    Ephesians
    Philippians
    Colossians
    First Thessalonians
    Second Thessalonians
    First Timothy
    Second Timothy
    Titus
    Philemon
    Hebrews
    General epistles(other Letters)
    Hebrews
    James
    First Peter
    Second Peter
    First John
    Second John
    Third John
    Jude
    Book of Revelation
Also there are significant differences in what the Tanakh teaches(Old Testament) teaches and what mainstream Christianity teaches, in regards to the nature of “God”, the nature of the Messiah, atonement, sin, Satan, Torah, Commandments, Exclusivity, land of Israel and Jews.

I seem to have broken into an echo chamber here based on the comments. You very clearly engage with random people who aren't prepared, and haven't thought much about this topic. If your genuine intention is to enlighten and save people, you wouldn't be adding in cricket noises and text like "he's getting desperate here" in order to embarrass them. Is this just to inflate your ego or do you actually want to have substantive debate? If so, I'm happy to oblige.
Let's start with a soft ball. Why are we allowed to postulate God as an axiom in the first place? Given that minds are things we know of from reflecting on our own subjective experience, and we know that our minds are contingent on time, space, material, evolution, and ultimately a brain, why do we think that we can get rid of all of these things and still retain mind? This seems to me a bit like removing all the components of your computer and still expecting it to run Microsoft word. I get that once you do this, you can answer the fundamental question of where everything began, but this is simply because a magical entity that can do anything is an answer for everything, in the same way that Santa Claus is an answer to why there are presents under the tree on Christmas. Given everything we know about the world, the fact that as you peel back the layers of reality things become stranger and more unintuitive, entering realms like quantum mechanics where complex math is required to represent things because our intuitions utterly fail us, it seems highly unlikely that as you peel back the last layer and exit space time and matter altogether, things suddenly become intuitive again and there's just... a guy, in our image, with thoughts, jealousy, ability answer prayers, and a dislike of mixed fabric and shrimp. I personally don't find this idea even mildly entertainable, but I accept that maybe I'm just missing something. Please set me straight.

Christian talks to a non-believer, and schools himself in the process. The events of the Old Testament take place between 2000 BC and 400 BC, while the Leningrad Codex, the oldest complete copy of the Old Testament, is dated to 1000 AD. This means at least 1400 - 3000 years occurred before creating a complete manuscript.
We don't have original copies of the Old Testaments. We only have a complete copy of Isiah from the Dead Sea Scrolls, and manuscript scraps of the Old Testament. Not every scribe was versed in Ancient Hebrew and Ancient Greek to properly transcribe the fragments.
We don't have any original of the Gospels in the New Testament. Complete copies of the New Testament are dated between 100 - 200 years after the death of Jesus.
Translation is also a problem, which is why there are so many different versions. The translators must not only be fluent in Ancient Hebrew, Ancient Greek and English, but must also understand the culture in 1st century Middle East to properly translate any cultural idioms and expressions. One must also take into account the potential biases from the translation.

Humans are quite fascinating in their search for Truth but Pride always brings then to seek in an absolutely foolish manner. Instead of following the Christ and His commands and allowing the word of YHWH ELOHIM ADONAI to speak for itself, they look here and there for abything and everything to yell them what they want to hear about it. Rather than admitting they are flawed completely, and know nothing, they want to prove the Bible is what they are, full of contradictions. Horus was born in a swamp, Jesus was born in a manger and was heralded by an angel and a star. Horus never taught in a temple at age 12, Jesus did. Horus was never baptized, Jesus was. Jesus had 12 disciples, Horus had 4, with 16+ followers. Horus never delivered any sermon on a mount, Jesus did.

I have never heard that any German guy was involved. Are you perhaps thinking of the Geneva Bible? As far as I know, King James convened 47 biblical scholars to analyse the Greek and Hebrew texts (the Greek and Hebrew were the original languages), and this was carefully compared to the Latin vulgate, and several earlier English translation such as the Geneva Bible, and the Tyndale Bible.
The 47 men were carefully selected for their expertise in the respective languages and in theology, most of them were professors at Oxford University, Cambridge University, and Westminster.
They formed 6 committees who then worked on different parts, and exchanged notes and debates over the translation for 4 years before they were ready to declare the project finished. I think they were about as thorough as anybody could be in making sure they were as accurate as possible.

Honest question: why should I believe these claims about being saved just on the basis of "trust me, bro"? What gives these claims credit? Why should one take such a huge risk on the basis of so little evidence that jesus is the answer? Claims of supernatural abilities exist in other religions as well. What is the core argument that distinguishes your points from pure conjecture?

    • @bethyngalw
      @bethyngalw 5 месяцев назад

That's a good question. I think the best thing I could say is, have you thought about addressing that same question to God? You can say literally exactly the same thing, but just tell him that you are talking to him. Tell him you're skeptical, and you don't want to jump into believing something without evidence. Tell him that if he exists obviously that's an important thing, (God existing, that is) and so you want to know. Tell him that you want to know why Jesus in particular rather than another religion. And ask him to show you why. You can even tell him that you're not even sure he exists, (if you aren't sure).
If he exists, then you can be confident that you have told the Creator that you want answers, and you can then trust that he will show you the answers bit by bit. If he doesn't exist, all you have done is talk to the wall and you haven't lost anything by doing that.

      @bethyngalw 5 месяцев назад

@@nolifeonearth9046 that's a really healthy sense of caution. So let me think... Have you ever heard of a guy called Gideon? He is one of the most famous people in the ancient world. The story goes that God spoke to him, but he was unsure about the experience. So he basically said to God, "look, don't be mad, but I need to be sure that this is really you. So I'm going to do this test. I'm going to put out a sheepskin on the ground, and if it was really you talking I want you to confirm it by making the sheepskin wet with dew in the morning, but the ground around it dry." So God did that.
But Gideon was still nervous. Maybe he thought, what if the ground just dried out faster than the sheepskin? So he said to God again, "Ok, seriously don't be annoyed, but can you do it again? but this time make the ground soaking wet, and the sheepskin completely dry." And God did it.
The point is, there is nothing wrong with wanting to be certain. And you can ask God, if you want to, to provide confirmation. In fact that's a really good and healthy thing to do. The Bible actually encourages people to weigh up what anyone tells them, and assess whether or not it's true or not. Sometimes that takes a while, and sometimes it's instant.
If you're wanting the truth you can know for sure that God is going to want you to know the truth just as much as you. You might hear something if you pray, but after you've told God that you want to know, sometimes it's just as simple as you learning gradually from looking at things like these kinds of RUclips videos. As you keep looking you'll get a good sense of what's true, and what isn't.
But consider this, if you were walking down the street talking to your best friend, and a complete stranger just jumps in and starts answering instead, telling lies instead of the truth, don't you think both you and your friend are going to be really offended? God is like your best friend. And he's all-powerful, all-knowing, he is love and truth itself. So if you want to find out who he truly is, he's gonna be wanting you to find out the truth about him just as much as you do. I think you can trust him to make sure that he helps you to find that.

And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.
