Hi Elizabeth, thank you for watching! I can completely understand why the headlights would cause some stress after a hit and run like that...I'd be the same way! There should not be an unlit portion in front of the car between the headlights....at least not more than 4-5 feet in front of the car. It sounds like one or both of your headlights might not be installed correctly, and that they might be aimed to far to the left and right.

Hi Dennis, thank you once again for this video. I have one one more issue with headlamps, the left (driver side) head lamp is focused towards passenger side and i see one more adjustment screw on top. do you think it is for horizontal adjustments. (the head lights i brought are for after market). your reply is much appriciated.
Thank you for watching! The Camrys I've worked on only have a vertical adjustment for the headlights (and a lot of other models are like this), with no horizontal adjustment. The only things I can suggest are: 1) make sure your headlight assy is properly mounted, 2) check for any damage on the front end that could cause horizontal misalignment, 3) some assemblies will allow you to place a shim behind a mounting point to correct for horizontal misalignment.
Thank you sir! I had new headlights installed on my 07’ Camry but he didn’t adjust them so I couldn’t see very far at night. This was simple, thanks to you. How much higher could you possibly go w/o blinding oncoming drivers? (in inches on wall from 20 feet)
Thanks for watching, Fer! If you set your headlights any higher at 20feet than they measure at 3-4 feet, they will be very bright to oncoming traffic. I suggest setting them no more than 2 inches above the measurement you get when the car is 3-4 feet from the wall.
Thank you for watching! I've always been a Craftsman tool guy, but a friend of mine gave me a set of Irwin screwdrivers a few years ago. They quickly became my favorite screwdrivers....the grips are nice and the steel used to make them is just right....hard enough to not bend or dull at the tip but not so hard that they chip.
I just changed both light fixture assemblies and the bulbs for my daughters 2007 Camry. I drove it last night and they were out of whack. Planning on the alignment tonight based on your recommendations. I noticed the rubber boots around the bulbs were missing on your Camry. Should I have not transferred them from my old rubber boots to my new light fixtures.
Thanks for watching! My Camry was not outfitted with rubber boots from the factory. If your original lights had them, you did right by transferring them to the new lights.
hi , thanks for the info i tried yesterday it goes up/down at the same time , another question , do you have idea to make the low beam bright cos my low beam projector is not that bright i just upgrade the bulb to led same brand H11 for low and 9005 for high , the high beam is so bright which is reflector headlight and my low beam is projector suppose to be brighter but not bright just white , need some advise , thanks in advance .
I use Sylvania Silverstars for my low beam bulbs and they are very bright. Some people have experienced short bulb life with these bulbs but I have not. Mine are 5 years old and still going fine. You may want to try a different brand of bulb?
Dennis, is that measurement from ground to center of headlight bulb with a 14" or 15" tire? My Yaris has the larger 15" tires. I can't believe no one has asked this question B4 MEeee. Adjusting screw - turn lefty lucy to raise; turn righty tighty to lower. Never mind, I've successfully adjusted the beams, left side needed to be lowered, right side needed to be raised.
@@dwcoffey I bought my headlamp housings 4 years ago, a couple of years B4 the original's started to cloud up. I've been procrastinating for a good 2 years. The cost of having a shop do the replacement & your video helped me to overcome inertia to do the task. It wasn't difficult, however, I did get my hands dirty, something you managed to avoid.
@@dwcoffey and this video enabled me to properly adjust the beams AFTER I'd installed new housings & bulbs (Sylvania Ultra H4). The old headlight bulbs were the originals. My vehicle is a 2009 Toyota Yaris - 4dr Sedan which I bought new. The odometer will pass 100,000 miles sometime next month. And it's a 5-speed manual tranny - electric power steering, my car has it all. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
Thanks for watching, Steve! This gen Camry doesn't have a left/right adjustment. I'd check your lights for broken mounting tabs etc. Not sure what else would cause them to be crosseyed.
Awesome video, easy and detailed instructions. But I do have a question I’m doing exactly as you did but instead of the headlight adjusting up or down only the high beam is moving, any idea why? Help would be greatly appreciated
Angel Zubigaray hi Angel, thanks for watching! What is the vehicle are you working on? Some have independent adjustments for high beam and low beam lights.
Great video. Is this adjustment done on high beam, or low beam? This levels driver and passenger lights relative to each other, and to car height. And will this setting be optimum for low beam viewing distance, and high beam viewing distance? Thanks.
Hi David, thanks for watching and for your questions. Yes, the headlight adjustments should be done on low beam. You are correct, the first check and adjustment levels the left and right headlights to each other and insures that the light beams are essentially level pointing forward. The 2nd check/adjustment makes sure that both lights are pointing slightly downward (on low beams) so as to give good illumination without blinding oncoming traffic. By setting the low beams at a slight downward angle in the 2nd phase, you also insure that the high beams are properly set for max illumination on the road. I hope that helps. Thanks again!
Hi Dennis, thanks for your effort in providing these great videos. I was just wondering if this adjustment applies as well to high beam lights or is it only for low beam.
Hi Hussam, and thanks for watching! It will depend on the car. In my example here, the 2006 - 2011 Camry, there's only one adjustment screw on each side and that screw will adjust the low beams and high beams. You should always adjust using the low beams only in a case such as this. Some cars will have separate adjustment screws, but not very often.
Thanks for watching, Eduardo! For a Camry and many other vehicles, there is only one adjustment screw for each headlight. That adjustment screw will adjust the low beams and the high beams. Some vehicles have complete;y separate high beams, they may have an additional adjustment screw. If they do, I'd set the high beams about 2 inches higher on the wall than the low beams.
Good Video, but you need a very long screwdriver to do this the proper way. @ 4:24 on the video you are showing the adjustment screw, you are adjusting it from the back, the easy way is to adjust it using a #2 phillips screwdriver and engage the gear on the back of the adjuster by inserting straight down between the tabs and rotate the adjuster that way. I see a slot in which a screwdriver can fit between the guides and engage the gear on the back. Much easier to get to the adjustment.
Thanks for watching, Karen! Great suggestion but you can only do it that way on the passenger side, and I wouldn't really recommend it because the adjustment gear is plastic. After doing that a few times, you will possibly strip the gear teeth and then be unable to keep the light in adjustment.
Hi, having problems with low beams on 2007 Camry. Put on 10k lumens and still can't see. Also had the outside lenses cleaned. Just wondering if adjusting would help or do I need to replace the complete headlight. Service man said sometimes it doesn't help to clean the outside even though they may look clear. My low beams have an opaque look and not sure if that's right. Thanks
It's hard to say Belle. Depending on what type/brand bulbs you installed, it could even be the bulbs. Were the lights ok before you replaced the bulbs? Could also be the inside surfaces of the headlights need cleaning. If you haven't had a wreck and they were doing ok before you replaced the bulbs, I doubt that adjustment is the problem.
@@dwcoffey thank you! No, the lights were not okay (dim) before we changed. We got the led lights thinking this might help. I suspect that I need to replace both units because the inside is dirty or plastic is affected inside also. The dealership said I could buy 3rd party and they would install for $130. My car is 12 years old and has always been outside with no protection from the elements. Ty again.
You adjust these with a long #2 Phillips, take the Phillips and push straight down into the hole made for it, the Phillips notches fit into the gears on the wheel and then you can adjust the screw up or down with ease. The gear has no other purpose than for a Phillips to turn them, it is not turning another gear as one would think they are for, it is for adjusting only.
ahhhh thanksss a lot i was thinking why my led headlight just blend on the road but not on the cars or any roadsigns now i figure out whats the problem thankss
HI, do you need to have driver side aim 2" lower and the right 2" higher so it doesnt block incoming traffic but you have more light on the right side of the road ? I have 2011 Toyota Camry Thank You
No sir, the headlights have a 'cutoff' line that prevents blinding oncoming traffic. Both lights should be adjusted to the same height as I show in the video. Thanks!
Hi Sam, checking the lights and setting them at 5ft or so from the wall shouldn't hurt anything. Basically at that point, you are making sure they are at the same height relative to each other. It's possible that it might make them a touch too high, but not enough to bother oncoming traffic, etc. As far as not having a groove in the adjustment screw.....does it have a hex head on it? If so, just use a socket or nut driver instead of a screwdriver.
Thanks for the video. I have one question. I have digital adjuster knob for aiming light up & down on my Toyota Premio. But for some obvious reasons I had to lift the back side of the car, as a result the light aim has gone severely down. Even if I turn the digital knob for the highest aiming point, the light aim doesn't go sufficiently up. I can't see anything far at night. What can I do plz help me.
I am sorry Hasan, but I am not familiar at all with the Premio. Do you have manual headlight adjustments as I've shown in my video? If so, perhaps you could adjust the headlights up using those. That would put them in range so that you would again be able to use your digital adjusters.
Hey Jero, If the car's height is different...put the car 1 ft from a wall. Measure the height of the center of the headlight beams and mark the vertical and horizontal centers with a piece of tape. Back the car to 25feet away from the wall. Adjust the headlight beam centers so that they are 2 inches below the original measurement when the car was 1ft away from the wall. If you can and need to adjust horizontal alignment, the beam centers should be 2 inches to the right of the original beam centers (in the US where we drive on the right side of the road). If you are in a country where you drive on the left, then the horizontal adjustment at 25 feet should be 2 inches to the left of the original measurement. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
I am having a bit of an issue, seems my camry 2008 GL has different style headlights. Low beams are h7 and the adjustment screw is missing. I don’t know how to adjust the headlights as i cant find my specific headlights anywhere on the internet

First and foremost thank you for your headlight installation video. Now I need to adjust them. My question to you Sir, how many inches off the ground should I measure the level. I am a newbie forgive me. Can I use a big piece of cardboard 5 or 10 ft away ? I just need to know the proper level. Thank you in advance Sir.
EL Padrino Thank you very much for watching and for the nice comment. I have another video showing how to adjust the headlights, check it out. ruclips.net/video/W6zu3EO0k_4/видео.html Thanks!!
Hi Peter, thanks for watching! I had to use a really short screwdriver. If that won't work on yours, you can find right angle screwdrivers at some hardware stores or at some auto parts stores.
Can this work with a hyundai elantra 11-16. I had hids put on with projector headlights. Also i know the camry dosent come with horizontal adjustment but the elantra does. Are the lights supposed to aim slightly to the right? Or straightfoward?
There is an arguement that says it's OK to have the passenger's side a smidge higher...as you originally had before you lowered it to match the driver's side. Why?.....because you want the driver's side not to blind oncoming traffic....but.....you may allow a bit higher on the right-side to see people stepping off curbs or animals coming out of forested areas.....it gives your car a bit more "Reach" and it's NOT on the side that will normally blind oncoming traffic. Also....at 4:37....you show the backside of the housing but the bulb is not installed with the weather-protection rubber "bootie" around the backside of the bulb....it's good to keep that in place.
Thanks for watching, Wil! Yes, you are correct about the driver's side vs the passenger's side. Some folks will adjust the passenger side a touch higher to give a bit more reach on the side of the road. (for non-US folks, we drive on the right side of the road as opposed to the left). Regarding the rubber bootie on the back of the bulb, my Camry was not equipped with those. I've seen them on other cars, but not on mine. The only weather protection for the bulb on my Camry is the o-ring around the base of the bulb, that is visible at the same mark you mentioned. Thanks again!!
@@dwcoffey ..thanks for the response Dennis. As to the bootie.....I will guess you bought the Camry used where (somehow) it got lost....pretty much all brands of cars using such replacable H4/9003 bulbs....use such a bootie to prevent dust and grime from entering the backside of the reflector lens area. Cheers.
No we bought this car new. My F150 doesn't have booties on the headlight bulbs either. The bulb just twist-locks into the back of the headlight assemblies. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your description of a bootie, or maybe you don't live in the US? I've never seen a rubber boot on the back of a headlight bulb and I have worked on many different makes and models of vehicles.
@@dwcoffey ..I don't understand, I indeed do live in the US.....every recent car that I have seen and worked on, Toyota's included, as well as my Scion.....have this 2"-3" diameter boot weather-proof cover on the backside. A 2 minute search here on RUclips found something that shows this---> ruclips.net/video/RYx6SH-nt4A/видео.html .....see timeline around 2.35 to 2.40......and also a bit later around 2.45 to 2.57 or so.....cheers.
Thanks for that video, Wil. I've never owned a car or truck with that boot.....now, it occurred to me, all our cars are 2009 and older. Maybe that's why they don't have them. I'll check my son's Focus or my daughter's Rogue next time I get a chance. They are newer, and I'll bet they have that boot. Seems like a good idea!
I just bought 11 Camry 172 K miles and only noticed lighting was way low just on the road barely no more than ten feet. No light towards the cars or anything. Car fax report had no report of incident but started to look like it’s been in a wreck.. the other side is completely not working..

Perfectly explained. Much appreciated!
Thank you for watching, Jim!
Thank you so much for this helpful video! Going to switch my bulbs in the foreseeable future and wanted to learn how to do this just in case! :)
Thank you for watching, Justin!
On 2015 Camry I guess it works somehow differently? I don't see those screws you showed in the video. How do I adjust on 2015 Camry? Thank you!
I'm sorry Alex, I'm not familiar with a 2015 Camry. The model I have is only similar up to 2011.
That’s what I’m struggling with now. 2014. It’s like a square on mine instead of Phillips head screw.
I like that Irwin screwdriver. Thanks for the video.
Great video, very helpful. Got some new headlights and they were adjusted all the way down when I got them
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching, and I'm glad this helped.
Thank you for your time and automotive knowledge you are appreciated.
Thank you very much Daniel! I appreciate you watching!
Thank You! Your videos helped me change out the headlights and now adjust them! Good on you Dennis
Thank you for watching! I'm glad the vids helped!!
You gave me the courage to replace my head lights . Now I understand why my lights are like -*- ======== _*_
I forgot to adjust them .🤣
Thanks very much for watching! I'm glad the video helped!
is there a adjustment knob for the high beams ?
Thanks for watching, Freddy! No, there is only one adjustment screw on this model.
Tire size doesn't matter when adjusting the lights, Thanks for watching!
I'm glad you got it done! Those new headlights will definitely make it easier to see at night. thanks again!
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
the screw driver or the actual gear? if i turn my screwdriver left the gear will turn right correct? i have same toyota yaris as you but automatic
i need instructions on turning the beams left or right . my lights are " crosseyed"
Dennis Coffey same car a 2009 Toyota Camry
That's strange. My Camry only has one adjustment screw and it moves the entire headlight assembly....low beams, high beams and running light.
What about for the high beams? Is it the same thing?
Thanks for watching, Eduardo! For a Camry and many other vehicles, there is only one adjustment screw for each headlight. That adjustment screw will adjust the low beams and the high beams. Some vehicles have complete;y separate high beams, they may have an additional adjustment screw. If they do, I'd set the high beams about 2 inches higher on the wall than the low beams.
Thank you Dennis ... exactly what I needed.
I'm glad this helped! Thanks for watching, Mike!
Hi
Thank you for post up. Thunmb up
What kind of Led light you use for Camry 2007-2011 Mine isn’t as bright as your. Let me know
Thank
Thanks for watching! I haven't changed mine to LED lights, so not sure.
Thanks a bunch for posting this video...nicely done!
Thank you for watching, Issac!
Thank you, your videos helped me.
I'm glad the vids are helpful! Thank you for watching!
Ty again.
It’s good to see some old school alignment tips.
Thank you for watching, Dakota!
Thanks for watching, Robert!
The best i ever watched.. You are a great teacher 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much!! I really appreciate you watching!
you are amazing thank you so much for your videos we learn a lot
Thank you for watching, Nadhem!
ahhhh thanksss a lot i was thinking why my led headlight just blend on the road but not on the cars or any roadsigns now i figure out whats the problem thankss
Thanks for watching, Sabeha! I'm glad this helped!
Thanks for the video this is great stuff we need more like this
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching!
HI, do you need to have driver side aim 2" lower and the right 2" higher so it doesnt block incoming traffic but you have more light on the right side of the road ?
I have 2011 Toyota Camry
Thank You
No sir, the headlights have a 'cutoff' line that prevents blinding oncoming traffic. Both lights should be adjusted to the same height as I show in the video. Thanks!
I did the 3 feet part while i about 5 feet away, is that ok? Also my passenger side screw doesn't have any groove to screw on! 11 CamryLE
I did not have screws I had sockets
Thank you I learn something new today ^-^ I will.do this on me camry 2011
Thank you very much for watching and thanks for the nice comment!
How would you start adjusting if the cars height was changed??
Whaaat???
Hey Jero,
If the car's height is different...put the car 1 ft from a wall.
Thank you! Perfectly done 👌🏻
Thank you for watching!
Hey Dennis,
Great videos, very helpful. Can you make a video on how to change tail-light bulbs on 2009 Camry?!
Thanks!
Thank you Kerrianne! I appreciate you watching. Yes, I will try to get a tailight bulb video done very soon. Thank you for the idea!
just a quick question would this be the same with 2010 toyota venza on how to set the height?
Thanks for watching, Al. I'm not familiar with the Venza, but I'd think the process will be very similar, possibly identical.
I am having a bit of an issue, seems my camry 2008 GL has different style headlights. Low beams are h7 and the adjustment screw is missing. I don’t know how to adjust the headlights as i cant find my specific headlights anywhere on the internet
Not sure where you are, but I know the Australian models use H7 for the headlight bulb (see my other video: ruclips.net/video/f1JHnW8Ruek/видео.html ) I have not seen any 2008 models without an adjustment screw. you can send a photo to my email if you like, dwcoffey3@bellsouth.net I'll be glad to give it a look and see if I can help. Thanks for watching!
have sent you an email@@dwcoffey
First and foremost thank you for your headlight installation video. Now I need to adjust them. My question to you Sir, how many inches off the ground should I measure the level. I am a newbie forgive me. Can I use a big piece of cardboard 5 or 10 ft away ? I just need to know the proper level. Thank you in advance Sir.
EL Padrino Thank you very much for watching and for the nice comment. I have another video showing how to adjust the headlights, check it out. ruclips.net/video/W6zu3EO0k_4/видео.html
Thanks!!

Thank you so much, Matthew! I appreciate you watching and thanks for subscribing!
How did you do the driver side? I can’t really adjust my driver side cause I don’t have any space. Great video!
I'm not sure about the Elantra....I've never worked on one, so I can't help with that. The headlights should be aimed straight and slightly down.
great job. your explanation was spot on.
Thank you Tim! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Worked like a charm! Thank you so much!!
Fantastic! Thanks for watching!
Your show is very clear. Thank very much
Thank you David, I appreciate you watching!
very nice man, made it so easy a dummy like me cant even mess up
Haha!! Thanks Charles I really appreciate you watching and thanks for the comment too!
It's hard to get to the lift headlight with the battery and fuse box in the way
Thanks for watching, Valerie! Yes it is....that is a tight fit on the left side. Some folks find it easier to remove the battery first.
I just bought 11 Camry 172 K miles and only noticed lighting was way low just on the road barely no more than ten feet. No light towards the cars or anything. Car fax report had no report of incident but started to look like it’s been in a wreck.. the other side is completely not working..
Thank you for watching, Frank! I have other videos showing how to replace the headlight assemblies and the headlight bulbs. They may be useful.
i have 2009 hybrid and want to know if same procedure will work on it. thanks
Yes sir, it should be the same. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much. Help me a lot. God bless you.
I'm glad this helped, Pedro! Thank you for watching!
Thanks man this video helped me in a pinch
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
High beams don’t have an adjustment?
On the Camry, there's only one adjustment (vertical) for the entire assembly, so it adjusts high, low, turn signal, etc.
Dennis Coffey thank you
Thanks, great information to learn and save some money.
