- Today we are doing something a little different on the channel. Reviewing a new hardtail out of the box! This is the all-new Vitus Sentier 29 which is marketed as a long, slack, aggressive hardtail. More info can be had here vitusbikes.com... and you can pick it up from Chain Reaction Cycles here www.chainreact...
Thank you for making this video. I'm new to mountain biking and was doing a lot of research and came across Vitus. On paper it out classes bikes in this price range and your review sealed the deal for me. I have had my Sentier for about a month and absolutely love it. I upgraded my pedals as well and setup it up tubeless. I will be adding the dropper post soon. Will likely use the same one you mentioned. I agree about the rebound knob and no clicks but it's the only minor downside I have found. Thank you again for a great review.
Nice to see someone push this bike a bit. A lot of reviews I've found have riders that doing little more than XC or pump track riding, and then the PB review is mostly talking. I want to see what the bike is actually capable of and you did an excellent job of that hitting the rock rolls and drops and such. Good vid!
Thanks for making this video because this is the only review I could find for the non VR version
I have the 2021 vitus sentier 27 vrs awesome bike. I'm 170cm/5"6, and have a medium frame.
I have upgraded my wheels as my riding has improved, I started doing jumps, tail whips bigger drops the wheels buckled.
Next upgrade is rear brakes and gears.
Good video ☯️☮️
Thanks for the comment! Brakes and drivetrain should be a great improvement!
Do you think you could have fit in the 2021 Vitus sentier 29? I am about 5'6" as well. I am looking at one for $800
Not to sure, but its only the wheels that are bigger not the frame.
I did have a 29er on another bike and I was fine with that.
I have the 27" version of this bike but the same colour frame as yours when the 27 was supposed to have a grey frame. Weird!
5’10 216lbs looking to get a Large in the VR edition of this with the bomber fork, they just sell out so fast.
I have one an amazing bike, however when climbing up really steep hills the wheel tends to try and pick up. The fork works flawlessly and goes through its travel with ease, the 2.6 inch tyres grip but when on roads they tend to slip in the wet when under heavy breaking. The 1 by 11 drivetrain is super smooth and has a very large range helping me get up the steepest climbs. Overall a great bike with components way above its predecessors.
Mine hopefully arrives in a few days....fingers crossed
This was a better review than PB, IMO, thanks so much for the real-time review!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have the Vitus Sentier VRS 29 2020 model. It rides great in the Connecticut area. The only complain was the headset. It didn't last long before making noise. I replaced it with a nukeproof. Otherwise good times!
Same here but I splurged on a Cane Creek.
This is super helpful! Real as can be.
Glad it was helpful!
Great review dude
Thank you, I'm loving the bike!
you talk about the reach being short is that the distance between the seat and the handle bars, im 6ft
Yes, from the tip of the seat to the bars. With a shorter reach it makes the bike more playful. It all depends on your riding style.
thanks for you reply. how tall are you
How does the bike handle technical climbs with the short reach? Thanks for the review!
I did not notice that big of a difference with climbing, the front end stayed planted and the 50mm stem puts you more forward over the front wheel in a more aggressive position. I did notice the shorter reach more during downhill sections with less room between the seat and bars. This bike rewards you for being aggressively foward instead of laying back for a ride.
Also did you assemble the bike? I watched an unboxing where the brakes were set for Europe… so opposite US
Yes, it was 90% pre-assembled. Brakes were setup for North America.
@@mtbct Thanks
Nice review !
Thanks for the video. You mentioned you're 6'1, so am I. My ideal reach is 465 but it could go up to 475. Which size of Sentier would you suggest? I was previously on a XC bike (Stack: 656 / Reach: 429) but, I guess I shouldn't use that as a comparison for a trail bike, right? (Sorry for too many questions, beginner trail rider here).
I stuck with the large frame @ 449mm. You could try the XL @ 471mm but I prefer the shorter reach for a hardtail. fun and playful!
@@mtbct Thank you!
Trying to buy my first MTB for mostly gravel paths and a little trail riding. My problem is that everyone keeps talking about stand over height and at 5’9” with a 31” inseam, the cross tube is pretty close to my crotch in a medium and if I drop to a small, my longer torso and reach make is very cramped. Is standover height that important? If it is, I guess I’m out of luck since I can’t seem to get 1-2” clearance. Vitus and Polygon xtrada 7 is what I shopped for and found a medium xtrada 7 with 29” tires but I was sitting on the tube. Would 27.5” tires work better for me?
You might be better with a 27.5 wheel set on a bike then. I would personally go to a bike shop and see what would be comfortable then right those geo numbers down and find something within that ride characteristic.
nice video man!! cheers
🤔how do you rate the fork, on the previous model, riders were saying its ok, if your not over 80kg because it bottoms out?
If you are a heavier rider I would definitely upgrade to something a little more supportive. Again remember this is only 130mm of travel and its pretty easy to go through that little bit of travel on drops and rough terrain.
Hey man, really good review. Succinct, gave the important info w/o blathering endlessly lol. Felt honest. Appreciate it.
Just ordered one from Wiggle. Let's see if I ever actually get it.
I appreciate that!
What kind of cycle computer are you using? Thanks for the upload and congrats on being able to snag a new Sentier.
It's the Wahoo Element Bolt.
@@mtbct thank you
👌nice ride, how tall are you, I'm 6ft 1" got the XL
I'm also 6'1" and I am starting to love the shorter reach. I think bike manufactures are getting a little to aggressive with the reach numbers.
@@mtbct I think the ideal reach for me is 460mm, but i rotated the bars a little, and moved the saddle forward, about as close as I'm gonna get, but overall a good ride👌
Vee-tus or VI-tiss?
Where is the jump trail at Bluff point?
Trailforks should be able to help you
where is this??
Bluff Point State Park
am five foot 9 176 cm should i get large or medium
You could probably go either size but as I mentioned in the video the reach on these bikes is very short compared to other bikes in this category.
will it fit 2.5 Lagos snakeskin29 inch tyres please
I contacted Vitus directly and they said that it will fit select 2.5 wide tires but again this would depend on how aggressive the lugs are on the tread.
Is it still internally cables
External with the exception of the dropper post.
Hey, how tall are you? If you don't mind.
6'1"
Vitus nuclear vrs vs sentier which one will best?
The Sentier is more aggressive geometry wise, so this would be your choice based on the trails you like to ride
Why don't reviewers realize that the performance of the forks is determined by the rider's weight? Did they not study physics in school? I know as an architekt, I has superior knowledge in structures...but this is basic knowledge!
Architects not learn to spell?
@@mbal4052 Are all architects English ?
Like it enough to ditch your full suspension bike haha
For these types of trails maybe...
Wut I hate about these brands is that they don't just offer all colors in all models...WTF? So I can never get the color I want for the model I want! Stupid business model!
