Surely the Stones as the prominent Vietnamese War soundtrack?
"Paint it Black", "Gimme Shelter" and "Sympathy for the Devil" instantly transports me back to that time and news reports.

Creedence Clearwater Revival are used as Hollywood shorthand for evoking the Vietnam War. There'll be an establishing shot of some helicopters flying over the jungle and "Fortunate Son" will be playing on the soundtrack. It's kind of like how The Clash's "London Calling" always plays over footage of double decker buses driving across Westminster Bridge.
