    Great video Steve, I am a pool professional in South Florida and see a lot of guys making the mistake you mentioned, specially with faulty manifold.

    Really informative video thanks! I gave a thumbs up.
    I think the 6 dislikes were from the pool guys that use winterization plugs for pressure testing and have just been caught out. :-)

      It has been a while since you posted this comment but I do have so more information published about pressure testing and establishing better industry standards and congruency of technical practice within the trade which you can read here: www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pages/pressure-test.html

      Nice thanks! I'm going to build a gauge like that this summer, I get a lot of people who have cracked pipes that need to be ruled out. Do you know of a Canadian seller online that supplies Anderson plugs? Most of the ones are US only or charge an arm and a leg for shipping.

      Pretty sure that SCP carries all of the leak testing equipment from Anderson

    I would love to see a actual demonstration of a pressure check on a system. I have enjoyed all of your videos. I live in the Midwest and we are putting in a 24' x52" round above ground saltwater pool this spring. I'm still trying to decide on the propane heater I want to purchase. It seems there are good and bad reviews on all brands. Do you have a recommendation?

      it’s not important for above grounds because if there is a leak in the piping you don’t have to dig through concrete or dirt to get to it. it’s an easy fix.

    If one puts a bung in a pipe for pressure testing one is effectively creating an air powered gun. Stay away from the line of fire. Good video

      Yes which is why water testing is really the safer way to pressure test. Air tests should really not be done, and absolutely never by a non-professional.

    Nice advice! i worked in US as plumbing for 20 years, now i am in Brazil and here they don't test nothing and they don't have plugs for testing for sell. Plumbers here don't need a license and also no plumbing inspection.

    Steve, great video as always. What is a fair price for a pressure test? I have an immediate need to know. My local pool company is trying to charge $690 for a pressure test last Saturday. They spent a grand total of 82 minutes at my home. My security camera verifies that.
    During that 82 minutes they replaced an old filter with a new S180T sand filter, along with new PVC pipes. The pool itself had been out of commission for 2 years. I think they are using that as excuse to jack up the cost of the pressure test. I was attending a football game when they showed up. Otherwise I would have watched the process. My neighbor went out there during the installation and called me. The pool guy was touting everything he had done, like changing gaskets, etc. My neighbor relayed everything on the phone. Not once was pressure test mentioned. Not one syllable. I heard the pool guy touting in the background. Now I am being charged $690 as standalone

      Wasted Century can’t believe you got no answer. It seems unreasonably high. But if you’re in a nice area..........you know how it goes. I know I do.....

    what's the name of the plug that you can hook the compressor up to an insert in the pipe?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  7 лет назад

      It is an air compressor quick connect. The female end is on the air line and the male nipple is on the pressure tester. This stuff would be available from any hardware store that sells air compressors.

      @@Swimmingpoolsteve can you link a site that has this ? Can't seem to find it at all. Specifically the quick connect to the compressor to the 1-1/2 inch gasket. Can this gasket be put into a poly pipe and then pressurized or only a hard PVC pipe. Thanks!

    do all returns need to be plugged when doing a pressure test?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  5 лет назад

      Yes. All ports must be closed or else the system will not build pressure.

    I would love to see you tell one of my customers that they need to dig up a skimmer line because of a 0.5 psi drop over 4 hours lol

      Telling them there is a tiny leak and telling them no leak is a different story lol. You just say, I see a tiny leak, wanna leave it alone? It won’t be a biggie. But if you want to have a perfect system, we can charge you to get it perfect.

    Dye testing cones can take the place of cumbersome pressure testing and quickly tell you whether the pool plumbing is good or bad. Pressure testing that is hard to do properly- if one plug leaks slightly the test will show a false positive and your on a really bad goose chase. www.poolleakacademy.com/dyetestingcones.html

  • @poolleakacademy5573
    @poolleakacademy5573 4 года назад

    Pressure testing is much to complicated for the homeowner but you don't mention you can statically dye test the plumbing for a broken pipe which is just as effective with less error. We sell a good set of dye testing cones that I use everyday instead of pressure testing ruclips.net/video/Yc41Nmtz508/видео.html
