New reports say that Mavs might be fine with Kyrie being a 1 year rental because by trading Spencer and DFS, they freed up a good amount of cap space. Even though it’s a good possibility Kyrie extends with Mavs. If Nets wanted to win now, Pheonix might have been the better trade. If they wanted to free up cap space and get two first round picks, Lakers were the better trade. They possibly could have gotten more good role players from a Jazz LA 3 team trade, but Russ would be going to the Nets and KD wouldn’t be very happy I assume. Imo though, Mavs lost the trade if they did it to win. They will climb the standings in the regular season, but their backcourt will get torched defensively in the playoffs. Unless they make another trade and somehow get some very good 3&D wing players.

    • @cotati76

A hidden benefit of playing for the Mavs is that Texas doesn’t have a state income tax. That adds up to a lot of money especially for what they are being paid. I recently moved to Florida which also doesn’t have state income tax and it makes a difference.
