I bought my 2017 A1708 from the Apple refurb store in 2018 - best Mac I've ever bought. The keyboard had already been replaced before going on sale in the refurb store. I bought a keyboard cover for it anyway - just in case. It's still my main machine today. I've just upgraded the pathetic 128gb ssd to a 1tb Sabrent and combined with the 16gb of DRAM it is still good enough for me..
@@rahul46yearsago No display flex issues with my A1708. I've recently replaced the battery and was expecting to have to give the insides of the casing a good clean because the fans do come on when doing intensive work. But the insides were fine.
Got the same model 2nd hand from a refurbishing company 2-3 years ago. Been working like a champ since. But the fan noise under high load is just too loud. So bad that I've enabled power saving mode even when on the charging cable. This decreases the moments, but doesn't eliminate them completely. It's the main reason why I'm looking at the new M1 air... But budget... :D Hope my keyboard doesn't fail as well. The hard drive in these is upgradable with an adapter.
I don't trust any benchmark becouse i work with render every time. I have Macbook pro 2019 and i think 17 is still good to. But M1 is really the best now. If only m1 had option to put in s2 display at once... ;/
@@jayanth1982 sorry for the late answer, its amazing!!!!! Just before u buy used one ask how many cycles it is, i think that was the word for how many time the laptop has been charged, so u can see the health of the battery, overall its an amazing machine ♥️

Dont ever buy the basemodels new at apple or somewhere else. Always buy the ones with better specs used for about half the price. thank me later. Had this 2017 pro basemodel for 3 years and i would not recommend it anyone to buy it as new (1399$).
@@akshajhui I am still using my 2017 basemodel 13" and i cant really complain. Its snappy as always. If you find a cheap one with good battery life and replaced butterfly keyboard, go for it. I with todays knowledge would not pay more than 600€ for a used/ref one. My point was just that its to overpriced when you buy it new. Even for 2017 there were way better options. Compare this laptop to the M1 ones. If you can wait, i would recommend to wait till you can afford the M1's refurbished or used.
Note that, the 2017 basemodel still has the "bad" version of the butterfly keyboard, which falls under a repair program from apple. I think they extended the guarantee to 3 years since purchase.
That keyboard is a fucking mess, other than that it is okay, I have it as a secondary laptop with HP Omen. It has much better trackpad and also speakers even though Omen has B&O. I'd say that the screen is a bit better too. But its CPU and GPU are absolute sh*t in comparison to my HP Omen. Gaming with this weak cpu and gpu? No way.

How many times have you had to replace the keyboard?
Once - two or three keys felt sticky, so I went to an authorised Apple service and they replaced the keyboard and battery

Sadly they are dropping support for all 2017 models. Pretty much every model got 8 years of support till 2015.

The new 10th gen i3 is supposed to outperform the 2017 i5 MacBook Pro
