And on top of adding danger to the oceans that are strangely safer than land, I liked the idea of a creature that isn't actually hostile, but still presents a unique threat (being stunned or disoriented for a couple of seconds can difference between drowning or not).

Regarding the "invisible block of light deleting other blocks" issue can't you just make it so that the light block literally *only* replaces air and water? If anything else is in the block coordinate, just, don't place the block? Seems like a simple solution. Sure, the glow squid would stop glowing temporarily if it enters kelp or something, but that's a reasonable sacrifice to make.
In statement it sounds very simple but I'm sure there's some coding reason why it can't be done, if it were that simple to fix then his friend would have originally included it in the coding or even Jaiz himself would fix it say his friend perhaps forgot.

Working on a mod like this, you have a ton of ideas on your mind, and especially while coding it's easy to sometimes overlook or just never think of very simple solutions. I've made mods for Vintage Story, Skyrim, Rimworld, and some other games, so I am speaking from general experience, not Minecraft-specific experience.
yes that's absolutely something possible and that I have considered. the other thing is that if the water is not a full block the glow squid turns it into a water source, which would also be fixable by checking if it is a full source block. but basically the feature didn't end up getting fleshed out as fully as the other from tie restraints and etc. so for now its a little buggy
what if instead of every glow squid always emitting light, each one emits light intermittently. and to prevent it from getting out of hand, the frequency of light emission is dependent on how many glow squids are in active chunks. you could think of it as the game having a finite number of "light emission tokens" that it can hand out to glow squids every tick. we could even give it a little in-world explanation by saying that glow squids have evolved to blink less often in larger groups

wow these are some pretty _dazzling_ things that bring back the _root_ features of the _glow_ squid. also a suggestion fix for the dynamic lighting issue is to just make it so the light blocks place to any nearby other blocks in each axis (so that way stuff like kelp/seagrass wont be a major issue) could also incorporate invis light blocks for the glowball if you so wish to have cool projectile dynamic lights
imo the glow squid shouldn't emit light like a torch or any other light source because real life glow squids (firefly squid) make light (bioluminescence) but just as much to make them pop up in the dark, not to act as a flashlight anyway the glowglass (glowing spyglass) should have a durability bar or smth instead of just randomly losing its ink

I also voted for the squid thinking they would make them beautifully majestic and we can do a lot with them, including make bright glass. But no, they only good for fckng signs and item frames. So seeing all of these ideas is just so cool and make me wish that Mojang would just give you some money and they'd officially put it in the game. Also an idea that I always have, there's a high chance for the glow squid spawned with one or a school of fish following it. If you put a fish next to a glow squid then that fish will also follow the squid. Not only that it makes in-game because the squid is supposed to be hypnotic, but irl fish are attracted to light. They are especially attracted to the green-light and the glow squid is somewhat of a green color.

Also it'd be cool that there's a low chance of one of the fish that spawn with the glow squid to be slightly glowy because it's been eating all the glow particles for a while. And normal fish can get glowy too if they've been following a glow squid for a few days. But once they're not living with it, the glowy fish would lose their glow.
I think the spyglass should have durability so you can see how many uses you still have. You could even allow it to be enchanted with unbreaking, and replenish the durability in the anvil with glow ink sacs.

Awesome stuff! Really cool mod with creative ideas. One thing I hoped for with the Glow Squid but didn't really expect was glowing blocks (dyeable blocks like wool, glass, concrete, terracotta, etc.), glowing leather armour, and glowing sheep. I can imagine quite a few possibilities with things like that.
an idea i had a long time ago was the ability for glow ink to be applied to dog and cat's collars, making them emissive so you can see your pet (or at least, the collar) in the dark

Heres a tweak idea, so what if the effect given from the glow ball also made any mobs textures convert into an emissive counterpart, like how mojang makes some parts of different mobs bioluminescent, like enderman eyes or blazes? But the glow ball effect could make the entire model of all mobs it hits into the emissive counterparts
I'd go with a night vision giving aura for the glow squid. Like the speed aura dolphins have. Underwater you've got a constant timer to keep you on your toes. Feeling you're short for time, it'd be nice to just having to get close to the creature. However I LOVE the glow milking lanterns! They'd be SO good! Early game you can melt some sand while underwater mining, get back to your shit and violà! You've got yourself some underwater light! And really, we need more kinds of light sources. GOOD job!
As cool as the hypnosis effect is, as someone that already can't play videogames much due to motionsickness, I can see why mojang didn't go through with hypnosis as an effect. It would be a very nausea inducing effect with both the pulsating light as well as the screen shaking when you try to look away ( at least in regards to how you've implemented it, of course there's no way to know what mojang themselves might've done with it ). It's a very neat idea though !!
I don't know how to mod minecraft but can't you create a scpecial liquid that emmits light (glowing water) and log the blocks with it? It wold look and behave exactly line normal water and when you pick it up with a bucked it would dive you just bucket of normal water, it would just emmit light like the light block. It would turn off while the squid is in the air suggesting that it glowing is just chemical reaction between the glow ink and water. (when you can't fix it, make it a feature)

Well, to make it work, you need to create a creeper or TNT inside ro sitting on your squids, and with dynamic light in the settings, they'll light blocks around. I don't know, but can you spawn s an infinit lighted creeper?
I really like the glow squid, and i voted for it, but it definitely didn't deserve to win. The moobloom didnt appeal to me and the iceologer could've been really annoying in cold biomes. I doubt we would've gotten something too interesting with the iceologer like a wand.

that'd be cool, but I think the issues with the glowing function still apply, they are too destructive and can be laggy for some worlds unfortunately.
