One of my close friends had been pushing me to watch this show since it premiered. In 2005 my wife and I nearly died in a car accident and I was laid up for months after. My friend showed up with the first 3 seasons on DVD, sat down and told me “guess what you have time to watch now?” So we sat there and binged like half of season one that entire day. I finished watching all the DVDs in the coming days and when I was recovered this friend would come over every week to watch the new episodes with me. He ended up tragically dying himself in 2009, never having seen the end of the series. I got my first tattoo for him after that, and the death of Superman felt like the most appropriate symbol to get. I haven’t watched the entire series since it aired, but now I think I’ll have to.

Watching Clark feel like an outsider was always relatable to me as a person with a disability like Cerebral Palsy. And also being adopted as well. Which contributed to it. Clark's lessons as well as what he often "preached" spoke to me as well. And always gave me hope and encouragement. Smallville showed me that we all go through struggles and it's ok to be different. Also, showed me more importantly that people truly can be better than they are. Clark truly was a light in Smallville and even his character of Superman in real life is a light to so many. This show literally saved DC. At the time DC was literally at its lowest ebb with Superman IV and Batman & Robin being its most recent movies based on its most famous superheroes. Smallville helped to salvage DC and bring it back to greatness. Yeah the later seasons dropped in quality especially after Rosenbaum left but i still enjoyed em. Some of the season finales especially in the first 5 seasons is honestly better than a lot of the stuff thats happened with Superman in the movies IMO. Also the way it did the Superman lore is better than any other adaptation.
