Perseverance pays off. I know from my experience that high idle problems with any EFI is almost always the iac or a vacuum leak. When I buy old cars now, the first thing I do is replace all vacuum lines and all the fuses and the fuse block with brand new fuses after cleaning the fuse block. That usually will intercept a lot of problems before they start. Great Job on getting this thing going!
Thanks! Replacing all the vacuum hoses is something I definitely should have done from the get go.. lesson learned the hard way. I’m glad now that I just didn’t throw in the towel.
Congrats on fixin it! Be sure to ck the other end of your modulator line..will be old crusty hose at trans. Sometimes a relearn fixes th problem. Glad you stayed with it. Note..if you use propane as a sniffer you Need to use a rubber hose to get in close..direct the gas. HAPPY TRAILS! 👍
Thanks! I plan on replacing all the vacuum hoses soon when I have it , a friend recommended I do that also. I’m going to be replacing the fuel tank and I plan on doing all of that while we have the truck on the lift. Thank you for all the advice and encouragement, I was a little nervous with the propane trick!
I haven’t seen anyone mention it yet but if you’re running one of the spring loaded pcv valves you will need to swap it to a fixed orifice one. I had similar issues with mine and it was caused by that. Sometimes it would pull the pcv valve fully closed and sometimes it wouldn’t, causing a big difference in how much vacuum it would pull in.
@@Timmy_Forget I'll be because I have an interest in that Holly set up. But there's been so much bad talk about it I've been gunshot. Besides price of it compared to the Edelbrock setup for carburetor. Something I would drive quite a bit would make a difference but these weekend cards I've got I don't think I would probably spend the time and expense for the sniper set up. I'll be watching to see how it works out and I'm glad that's going in the right direction for you
i bet the problem came back, its not the spring return on the primary shaft, its the secondary return butterfly valves, wrapping the torsion spring one more wind will work but not correctly the proper fix , holly tech support said to loosen butterfly screws and readjust or re-center secondary valves, also good idea to re-center primary valves as well, requires removing the throttle body but its the correct way to fix it instead of over-stressing the torsion spring and throttle pedal, loosen screws on bottom side of butterfly valves and snap the throttle open and closed and they will self center and make sure to tighten screws well so they dont loosen and fall into engine, UPDATE: now I found out no screws to loosen on butterfly valves on base model sniper, they are riveted on, Christ POS! so I guess were stuck with winding the spring more
@@sacooper802 it’s been pretty reliable since I last adjusted it. The IAC adjustment made a big difference. I still think that I would get better performance out of the truck with a carburetor. It’s on there and running decent so I’m not going to mess with it anymore for the time being.
your idle screw is still to tight , your iac % should be between 8 and 12 in park , hot youre at 1 to 2 at hot idle need to close throttle plates to let the iac motor control more of your idle , guessing you adjusted it when engine was cold .

That is the first I have heard of that. Thank you so much! I’m on it. Totally makes sense.
Good job I was a little concerned since I have the same setup on my Chevelle.. No issues yet glad you fixed it...
Thanks, it’s definitely a relief getting it straightened out. Looks like I need to tweak it a bit more, but we’re super close now.
That fall looked rough!
It was a hard hit for sure!
Did you ever go back today are you private junkyard you know about and check the firebird out AKA Trans Am we talked about?
Not yet, with moving and the Holidays I haven’t had a chance. Hopefully next week I’ll be back over there.
I'm glad you didn't throw in the town but the carburetor back on. That's what I would have done. But then I like Edelbrock. What can I say?
I’m going to give it another chance, we’ll see what happens!

The biggest drawback of this system is that the ecm is on top of the engine. Old Tbi n modern system's are inside the vehicle. Much cooler temps.
Definitely, evidently the new Sniper 2 they fixed a lot of the issues. I don’t think I’d do another.

Thanks for that tip, I was thought that it should be under 4. I’ll readjust it. I really appreciate the help!
