    Enjoying the 1950's cookbook recipes. My sister gave me a Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, probably late 70's early 80's and it is still my favorite cookbook. I like that the cookbook explains basic cooking/baking techniques and has pictures of the same.

    Its crazy how much time they would spend in the kitchen in the 50's.... that's probably why people were so much healthier and obesity was almost unheard of because even tho they used lard and sugar, everything was made at home from scratch without preservatives and additives... I'm loving this videos

    Yes, more Fall recipes please!!! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I also think of apples, pumpkin, and soup/stews for the Fall. One other thing that I think of is winter squash. I think the leftover pork casserole looked so yummy.

    I was wondering about the driftwood crystals, so I went and checked - apparently driftwood has soaked all kinds of minerals from the ocean water, so they burn with different color flames! Like purple, blue and green. Didn't know that! Good tip for Halloween.

    About pumpkin pie; you could use allspice instead of cloves; it has some of the same flavor, but others as well, and you can't have too much of it - cloves can easily overpower everything and then it's awful.

    How is Luke's eye. There doesn't seem to be any videos of the family anymore which along with full daily meals I thought was your aim as it is called Noel's big family life. It is such a shame it has all been about food, it definitely isn't the same. The chaos and fun of a big family along with all the food made an enjoyable and heartwarming presentation. Please can we get back to that.

    • @NoelsBIGfamilylife
      @NoelsBIGfamilylife  5 лет назад

      I separated the 2. We vlog almost every day on Blue Jay Acres. But keeping food over here. Luke is doing much better and we just have one more Dr visit this week to make sure his vision is good and there is no scaring. Thank you so much for asking about him . Noel's big family life was actually all about food until I combined them together about a year ago. But most people just want one or the other.

    I was a teenager in the 50's. The pie, soup, and muffins can be found in any contemporary cookbook. Composed salads were the trend. You would have the cinnamon apple, a poached or canned pear, pineapple slice or a plate with a slice of tomato, cuc, asparagus or whatever on a bed of lettuce with a dollop (popular term then) of mayonnaise or maybe a bit of creamcheese mixed with nuts. It was a pretty little salad plate. Sure there were tossed salads, but a composed salad was classy. Another favorite was a wedge of iceberg lettuce with real thousand island dressing (chopped hard boiled eggs were the islands). That pork casserole looked so good. How did it taste. The pork and beef of the 50's had much more flavor than what we get in the supermarket today. It may not have been as tender.
