you get it. it breaks my heart seeing all of the comments stating that "this album isnt sophie at all, its an imitation" like my dudes she was literally playing these songs on her dj-sets before passing.

i think some of these tracks dont feel like “songs” but make a lot of sense within the album with how they lead up to and play into each other, reminds me of the remix album in that way (and sonically) which is one of my favorite works from her. its very nice for the “dance party” vibe she was going for. sure this doesnt work that well as a “stamp” on her “legacy” but she wasn’t going for that, she just wanted to make a pop album to dance to.

i think tracks like “one more time” feel a lot better as a sort of transition within the album, especially if youre in the mood for it. when i first heard it as a single i didnt really like it, but i think it sounds better within the context of the album. and IMO “berlin nightmare” you like have to 100% be in the mood to listen to, but when you are its such an amazing song and vibe. i think this album is definitely a grower in that way and with time we’ll “learn” how to like these tracks more if we give them more attention and listens.

    • @huntydogg
      @huntydogg 4 месяца назад +2

to elaborate, i dont necessarily think we should think of all of these as exactly individual songs but just more so a “slice” out of the whole album, especially like with “one more time”.

@@huntydoggyeah, I think those instrumental songs near the end like Elegance, Gallop and the two others are really great back to back!

Totally agree!! Appreciate your insight that’s exactly what I was thinking. The gold in this album lies in that ability. She killed it

I totally agree with what you said about people's high expectations for this album, they are pretty unrealistic. I also feel like there's a fundamental misunderstanding from some people of who Sophie was as an artist. People often see her solely as a perfectionist or experimental artist, especially after Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides, but that's just one part of her. Sophie has always been about creating things that sound larger than life, and she's never been above working with mainstream pop stars like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, or Madonna - as long as the music serves that bigger purpose. At least that’s the impression I’ve gotten from her interviews.
A song doesn’t have to sound experimental to have that "larger-than-life" impact. In fact, most of her live DJ sets had tracks tracks similar to "Do You Want to Be Alive?" and "One More Time." Her music in this album wasn’t necessarily meant to be "reaction-friendly" but to be felt in a club or shared with friends. It seems like Sophie was aiming for music that didn’t demand your full attention but could still move you.
Anyway, I know this is a long comment, but I just really love Sophie. RIP to a legend.

I felt the same about One More Time at first, I was like "uhhh hold on when is stuff going to happen?" But I kinda started to like how it suddenly came back from the shadows to strike you in the neck, idk most of the songs have started to grow on me a lot

Yay you uploaded it! Been waiting✨✨!
So while im apart of the crowd that just felt this dosent feel right or sit well with me im happy there some that enjoyed it! And we even got anything to begin with!
Even disregarding no fan favorites there are still werid choices with songs we have beard before when sophie was alive now being mixed weridly and sounding less impactful like reason why(its still pretty good tho) and its interesting cause this btw is a old fan favorite that made it onto the album but other songs around the time that where made are missing? Like "transnation" would've fit perfectly here in this album and wouldn't have felt out of place, and would've felt like... Well her that's why i feel like that argument amongs people doesn't hold up but i understand!
But all in all something was just felt off even as far as posthumous albums go, the song themselves shows a direction she definitely wanted to go but the choices that made the album in the end result of the final songs now done makes me feel like somthing was changed about them and missing, makes me feel this album wasn't as complete as they made it out to be. I respect the hell outta her brother for finding the strength to do this and everyone trying to do there best with what they had! Apparently more is coming so i can't wait for that
Hope this doesn't come of as mean! Im just a fan that cares, it didn't overall leave the best impression but i still respect everyone apart of it! I think everyone opinions on this is valid and if anything it shows how many people actually care about her and her legacy, she changed music forever!

Of course nah that’s respectable 🙏🙌 I think it’s the people arguing that “Sophie wouldn’t have wanted this” and yada yada where it just takes it too far, but I do understand feeling the way you explained. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts 🙏🙌 Much love

I’m only maybe 80% through your reaction but I’ve listened to to the album 3 times now and i feel we’re on a similar wavelength. SOPHIE the album definitely feels rooted in her DJ sets eg. HEAV3N. The progression of the tracks (or lack thereof as you said) was also a little strange to me? And like with One More Time it feels like a layer or two went missing texturally. I can also understand how some complain about the mastering on previously leaked pop tracks eg. Reason Why and others as they’ve been subdued to fit the “high at the club” soundscape the project tries to build. Fortunately it doesn’t bother me but i think it’s very interesting and honest of her friends and family to let the public have this show “this is just where she was at the time creatively!” I don’t know. This is such a silly ramble haha it’s just so tricky to talk about. I gave the album a 3.9/5 on RYM overall which feels good and I think constitutes a good album. Loved your hearing you thought dude!

Hey man, great reaction! I love it when reactors don’t just bob along and say “that’s cool” at the end; but actually go into detail about what they liked.
If you’re interested in checking out a new album, may I suggest Ethel Cain’s “Preacher’s Daughter”? It’s sososo good; it’s a concept album, so it follows a story, and the production, Ethel’s voice, the lyrics…it’s all amazing.
Anyhoo thanks for another reaction, see you in the next one 😁

Exhilarate was beautiful song to me. The lyrics touched me so much like I cried when I heard the single. As a Trans women I could relate to her on it. Def was living my life too fast just trying to get by. I liked Gallop it felt like a classic SOPHIE to me but I agree it felt the most unfinished.

i love intro (the full horror) and i love this album but it feels wrong listening to it without playing CUM Sophie Remix after Intro because it uses the same elements in the beginning of the track (also CUM REMIX is the most underrated SOPHIE song)
