It was nice seeing the newer Shibuya office! I remember about 6 years ago I wanted to see the office in Roppongi, but I didn't know anyone who worked there. At that moment I did ask myself if I see myself working there for a long time and I was kind of questioning what I wanted. In my experience of applying to Google for software engineering, I always felt that the bar was higher and the pay was lower in Japan than it was applying back home in California. As much as I would like to work for one of the Tokyo offices, I'm not entirely sure if its truly what I want.

"Your value should not be tied to the company you work for"..... Whenever I tell my family about leaving google, I get the lecture treatment and get completely written off. I hope I get the opportunity to explore other jobs like you did.

I completely understand the pressure of that, and my decision to leave was full of doubt at the time. However, five months later and I’m happier than I’ve ever been. Just remember you’re already at Google, you can excel anywhere! :) I hope you find the career opportunity that energizes you in the future.
