  • Birding Brazil's NE Atlantic Forest 3- Third video of our 4 video series of our trip to Brazil in January 2017. There are also a few scenic photos from our August 2007 trip to Brazil.
    Our "Cover Birds" and Title Birds are Saffron Toucanets (05:10). These birds and some friends were photographed while we were staying at the Hotel do Ypê. This hotel is located within the Parque Nacional Itatiaia. The Hotel do Ypê has beautiful and extensive grounds. Some of our favorite birds were photographed there, including a pair of Frilled Coquettes (11:52).
    MOST PHOTOGENIC AWARDS (in order of appearance) go to:
    Yellow-lored Tody-flycatcher (02:07) Stunning!
    Rufous-capped Spinetail (07:09) Beautiful from any angle!
    Male Chestnut-capped Blackbird (09:43) Fantastic coloring!
    Other bird species featured:
    HUMMINGBIRDS-Versicolored Emerald (08:25), White-vented Violetear (09:04) and the tiny but mighty Frilled Coquettes (11:52)
    TANAGERS-Golden-chevroned (02:14), Brown (05:01), Gilt-edged (12:56), Sayaca (14:28); Brassy-breasted (17:22) and Black-goggled (19:41)
    TROGONS-See the Surucua Trogons (Red-bellied) at (16:14) and the Surucua Trogons (Yellow-bellied) at (16:52).
    WOODPECKERS-Lineated (03:53), Blond-crested (04:45), White (15:05) and White-spotted (18:46)
    OTHER FAVORITES:
    RAPTORS-Bat Falcon (14:52) and Aplomado Falcon (20:55)
    PARROTS-Turquoise Parrot (14:20); Blued-winged Macaw (15:42) and White-eyed Parakeets (19:02)
    LOOK for these cutie-pies-White-eared Puffbirds (00:58), White-rimmed Warbler (10:43) and an Araucaria Tit-Spinetail (20:40) that was grabbing some quick bites.
    ALSO making appearances-Assorted flycatchers, thornbirds, tyrants, piprites, sirystes and many more!
    LAST BUT NOT LEAST BIRD for this video is a female Blue-billed Black Tyrant. This is a smaller tyrant at 15 cm (16 inches).

    ARGENTINE Black and White Tegu-(15:42)These lizards are BIG!
    Locations visited included REGUA-Reserva Ecológica Guapiaçu, Pousada Vale dos Sonhos, Barra do Piraí, Valença, Carmo, Duas Barras, Parque Nacional Itatiaia, Hotel do Ypê and more.
    After we finished our time at REGUA, we met Ricardo, our guide for the balance of our trip. He drove us to all of our other locations which were within the states of Rio de Janeiro and Bahia. He helped us find SO many birds! We highly recommend REGUA and our independent guide Ricardo.
    Equipment used was Canon 70D with a Canon EF100-400mm lens.
