Ok, I ran out & bought a Santa Rosa semi-dwarf tree for my patio. W/b in a container (No yard) so will be pruning twice a year. Had one growing up & you are right, they are beyond delicious. Love Lulu & hope she is still doing well. ❤️🐶
I'm glad you said you're going to regret not planting a Santa Rosa because that's the first Plum Tree I planted in my backyard. Did some homework on what plums tasted good and that one popped up I even have a video on the beauty.
man you're just full of great info... never came across anyone talking about the dusty coating, so glad I caught this video. Don't wash plumbs until you're ready to eat them. Noted!
@@ZaatarGardens well i think you're right because you often see plums in store with that coating still on them, if they aren't washing it off then you don't have to either until u need to
And some stores here in California they wash it off to make them look shiny for the customer but when you buy one and take it home there’s no juice inside the fruit
It’s only tart when it’s not fully ripe. When you you let it soften on the counter. Omg the sweetest is amazing. Just saw the weeping and regular one at homedepot. I just took the moorpark apricot bare root. I’ll be running back after watching your video. I planted a Santa Rosa maybe 3 years ago. Lost that one cos of my rage caused by those that don’t appreciate my expensive green thumb. Lol I was the only one hurting after my destruction”s”.
My favorite is the Santa Rosa sweet flesh and tart skin. I have a weeping Santa Rosa plum as well and to Santa Rosa Plum graft into my 4-in-1 fruit tree.
The place I buy stone fruit trees from has some so I will see if I can get one. I am hoping to find a multi-graft tree too because I would rather have some different kinds but they rarely have them here in Phoenix.
I agree 100%, I love the Santa Rosa as well. They are delicious and juicy. This year I let some of my Persian sour plums ripen up as well, they are just like eating candy. They don't have the tart skin like Santa Rosa plums. Love them all. lol Another great video Moses. Thank you
Yeah I didn’t let any of my green Persian plums fully ripen but I heard they taste like candy and they turn golden yellow. Thank you for the compliment I need to hear these type of things because it’s not easy to keep producing the way I am.
This variety is not available in the UK, even though it's apparently fine in similar climates in the Pacific North West. I may have to have a chat with any family who are visiting the US in the early spring and see if I can persuade them to find room for some scion wood in their hand luggage.
@@ZaatarGardens So I gather but with the US irradiating outgoing international post, I can't even order it on-line unless I could persuade the nursery to wrap the scions in foil.
I planted a Santa Rosa plum tree last year. Im so excited just watching your video. I’m in Massachusetts Zone 6. How long till my tree carries fruit. Mine looks a little young like 5-6 feet tall. It does have leaves it looks healthy 😆 so that’s good. I’ll go get fish emulsion like you suggested. Can I use the fish emulsion for the for my Georgia belle peach tree ? Thanks
You will not regret planting a Santa Rosa. It should fruit in 3 years, if there is any fruit on it this year or next, remove them, by growing only 4-5 little fruit will drastically slow down the growth of your tree. I use fish emulsion and seaweed fertilizer on every single plant a grow and I currently grow over 250 different plants from around the world. Have fun!
This is what I had hoped for: a description of the taste and a discussion of why you prefer one variety over another. Your description of the contrast between the flesh and the skin of the Santa Rosa makes me want to see if I can grow this plum up here in Sequim, WA. Thanks so much! BTW - I looked up "fruit skin bloom" and learned that it's a natural waxy coating produced by the fruit that acts as a barrier, protecting the skins from insects and bacteria. It also helps to seal in the fruit's natural moisture. Eggs have a similar protective bloom. If I don't wash it off, I can keep eggs unrefrigerated for weeks, but if the bloom is damaged, I have to use the eggs immediately or refrigerate them. Egg bloom _is_ scientific, as many papers have been written about it; the USA is one of the few places in the world that wash and refrigerate eggs.
I wonder why people wash it so often the eggs that is, I wonder if that’s the reason why you can get salmonella and other things like that from these eggs
@@ZaatarGardens I think the USDA or the medical community is responsible for the egg washing & refrigerating here. Same thing with pasteurized & homogenized milk. I _do_ think salmonella & other infections can occur in eggs with inadequate bloom coverage.
i just picked up a japanese beauty plum this year, growing it in a container but it doesn't seem to be fairing well. Leaves are really light green to yellowish and it's not a watering issue. Hasn't put on as much growth as my pluots which are in-ground but that's to be expected. Haven't seen them bloom yet either, my pear and pluots have put on flowers which I removed.
@@ZaatarGardens your fuyu died? how old was it? that's a shame... will do an update on mine soon, it is LOADED with fruit. I actually thinned out at least 100 flowers a month ago and the tree self-thinned some more as well, plenty left though
Brother , please in need a Help ! I have this type of tree almost 200 trees, but the problem is that after flowering the harvest falls, especially if there is a little wind, I do not know if a lack of fertilizer or what should I do '?
The Italian prune I grow as well (French Improved also) and the Santa Rosa taste way better than that, it’s perfect acid to sugar and it has a tangy skin
@@ZaatarGardens Thanks so much for the quick reply. Is it affected by rain or lack of sun? THe spot where I plan to plant this on might be shaded half of the day by a large apple tree.
Beautiful fruit. Sadly, Santa Rosa isn't disease resistant enough for much of the SE USA. But there are other great varieties that do well here. Southern gardeners, do your research.

Great producers!
Thank you Moses that was dope
You’re welcome!
Great harvest! I have a Burgundy plum but it hasn’t fruited yet. The Santa Rosa looks delicious.

I need a tree like that! So interesting. 😊
4-in-1...? Yes, it is amazing!!!!
I forgot to ask what do you spray your trees with to keep them bug free?
I use liquid hand soap and water (very dilute) and if it is bad and your beneficial insects are not present, I seldom use Neem oil
methley, santa rosa and green egg sour..is it good idea to plant them in same back yard?
Yes! Also Santa Rosa can cross pollinate with many varieties luckily
thanks a lot@@ZaatarGardens

I am assuming that the soil is low on phosphorus and calcium. I would also foliar spray with fish and seaweed extract in the evening.
What about the black knot deseas?
Only fungicides is what I’ve heard can help with that particular disease and sulfur as well
Is Santa Rosa as, more, or less complex and intense in taste than Italian prune plum or Red Heart?

What company did you order your Santa rosa plum tree from?
Most of my trees are from Lowe's, January is the bare root season for us here Zone 9b.
What zone you live?
Zone 9b
Zaatar Gardens I’m zone 5. I got some fruit tree after I saw ur video. Thanks
I feel like I was brainwashed by you so that I just planned a Santa Rosa plum tree 😂😅😊🎉

The plums tasted so good and a great way to fertilize
What do you fertilize your plums with?
Foliar feed with Fish Emulsion and Seaweed primarily
I eat Alama Santa Rosa off the tree no water. California baby!
An amazing state for growing stone fruit especially
I was hoping you'd show us how to select good plums at the store. Obviously I need to watch a different video.
Sorry for the confusion but I am DEFINITELY the wrong channel for that.
Apple tree nothing
I don’t understand....
