Just what i needed to here. My 5 iron has been driving me nuts (not a Drive just a short putt). I hit the other irons with a beautiful draw that you taught me but still slice the 5. Now i just need to go back to the range thx again. Best golf instructor on youtube!!!!
Good one Marcus - the long irons are a joy when you hit them well. I use them on par 3s - I somehow feel that i can be more accurate with them when firing in to a green.. My longest is a 4 iron and I had to buy it separately. They're not included in standard sets any more I don't think..
Hi Alison. I'm glad you still use them. The club manufactures are making the clubs more strong lofted every year and there are som 7 irons today that have the same loft as a 5 iron 10 years ago.
I just saw this. Interesting because I've been hitting it like you mentioned with the other irons. Really good by the way, however I will try it like this now. I was setting my ball in the front because I use 3,2,and 1 irons. The 1 iron is the hardest, because I had the driver in mind and still wasn't bad with the inside to out.
Thanks Markus. “Ball turf” the holy grail of iron shots but not so much for the longer irons if I have understood your point - a fast sweep perhaps? What’s the downside of hitting shorter irons like longer irons - a fast but clean sweep.
I replaced my 3-4 irons with equivalent hybrids, however although easier to hit they aren't always your friend, mine are high launch, great, the negative windy weather the high flight gets affected by the wind.
Yes Richy, easier to hit but still difficult. All long clubs we use from the turf needs a precise impact and that's hard to accomplish every time. Good practice clubs. 👍
Nobody is immune to bad shots. The pro's have less of them but they will always happen. You can keep your hard clubs for practice to make the easier club feel even easier.
I use this method with my 3wood with good success How would you address this issue when your clubs from all wedges through the 3 are single length 3-6 are hybrids at the same length Great instruction as always
They would be slightly easier to hit if we all have 7-iron length but still it's harder than a actual 7-iron. The lower loft still makes it hard to hit straight and we need even more speed to get the ball in the air.
Great Channel and good advice.I have a question about weight shift.Where is your weight in your feet when you hit a driver and where is it when you hit a iron I was told to shift weight at top of swing to lead foot which I think might be wrong now after your last video as your head goes back meaning your weight must be back on trail foot?my head goes forward. Also why to you lift the club above the ball before you hit your shots?
Good questions Mark. I have a late weight shift and hip rotation for one reason. I'm NOT built like a rubber band. We need to be extremely flexible to do a weight shift early without over rotate before impact. It works for some (a few) golfers but not for most of us. My take away I can explain. Golf would be a lot easier if that was the case but the clubs are not made to be treated the same. We need to adjust timing and swing pattern. Golf is hard. 👍
I like how you explain the reasons why you need to do something. Not many people put it so simply.
I try to give you the reason for every change. If we don't know why I think it will be hard to keep going when it feels hard.

Glad it helped. Go get that draw. 👍
Glad to see your channel is growing! Best instructor EVER!
Glad you think so! Thank you. 🙏
You got that right Pat.
Great stuff Marcus!!! When I switched my practice from an 8 to a 5 iron I had far more confidence with my other irons, a trickle down affect.
Great job! Make your practice tougher and it will feel easier. 👍
Great videos thanks for sharing your thoughts. Especially the episode on shoulder turn.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks John. 👍

Just go and try it. Just remember that this is hard clubs to hit and need a lot of practice. 💪

Yes David, more of a sweep than hitting down to keep as much loft as possible. 👍
I replaced my 3-4 irons with equivalent hybrids, however although easier to hit they aren't always your friend, mine are high launch, great, the negative windy weather the high flight gets affected by the wind.

I remember seeing Colin Montgomery in person misshitting a two iron years ago, if he had difficulty then I think I’ll stick with my hybrids thanks

Hi Marcus I’m loving your videos , in your mind where are you releasing the club with the three iron is it early in your swing or on top of the ball ?
In my mind it starts very early with all clubs but extra, extra early with the driver.
Lovely

Seems it would be good to swing this same way for all clubs?

👌👌
Keep 'er lit Bro!
I promise. 💪
