    The white Vitara was a Geo Tracker. In the late 80s and through the 90s, GM aligned with Toyota, Suzuki, and Isuzu to sell Japanese cars branded as Geo once GM realized they could not compete and did not want to compete in the compact car market. They were 100% re-badges of the Vitara you saw called the Tracker, the Toyota Corolla (Sprinter) called the Prizm, Isuzu Impulse called the Storm, Suzuki Cultus called the Metro, and Isuzu Gemini called the Spectrum. Geo cars were sold at Chevy dealerships throughout the 90s and eventually GM decided to simply badge them as Chevy and sold some of them into the early 2000s. They were aimed at young drivers and often painted in bright flashy colors with very 90s graphics on them.
    It's funny that there was a Scion tC there too because as soon as Chevy stopped selling the last former Geo, Toyota decided to swoop in and create a brand, Scion, aimed at young drivers in 2004 with a re-badged bB and Vitz. I actually owned a 2005 Scion tC which was made specifically for the US market and I really liked it. Scion as a brand was shut down in 2016.

    Loving the mini trucks Dan! I was into that here in California back in the late 80's-early 90's. I had an '87 Toyota mini, lowered, aftermarket wheels,etc.etc. It was a blast. Thanks for sharing!

    I know this scene isn't yours. BUT man I love old school mini trucks, bagged trucks, etc. Kind of died when people no longer wanted to learn to fabricate and just wanted things they could bolt on to their vehicles.

    Car bras were more of an 80s thing here in the States. Nissan Navaras (D21, called Hardbody in the USA) and 720 pickups are almost non-existent nowadays. To the extent that if you see one that presents well, you appreciate it. Scion was a youth sub-brand of Toyota, notable having imported the Bb to North America.

    The slammed mini trucks are damn cool. Never been a fan of Donks and Dubs but hey each to their own. Some real nice high quality builds there.

    The old 71 Hiace was great to see, the drop side tray version was probably the rarest in Aus. That's the most Navaras and B2600s I've seen in one spot since they were in showrooms. It seems very odd to see a show like this in Japan, as you said it looks more like a show in the US instead.

    Scion was a sub-brand of Toyota that started in the 2000’s in the US. That blue coupe is an TC. I think it’s based on the Corolla. GT86 first came to the USDM as a Scion.
    It’s cool to see the mini trucks. They were big in the US in the 80’s/early 90’s. I had a lowered Isuzu pickup back then! Fun video. Thanks!

    My 1995 Hilux was sitting a bit low so I tried to adjust the torsion bars and managed to break one of the anchor bolts. Vehicle was instantly slammed on its bumpstops.
    Managed to get it back to exactly where I started after getting a second hand bolt. I think I will just leave it.

    I haven't seen that many B2000 - B2600 pickups in one place for a long time. I really like the Hi Ace and the blue 720. Toyotas were definitely out with all the tacos. But I liked the Chevys there too.

    Factoid of the day: those old Chevy full-size pickup trucks had different model codes, based on the number of drive wheels. Rear-drive models were denoted as C1500/2500/3500, while 4-wheel-drive versions were called K1500/2500/3500. Chevy dealers got tired of trying to explain this scheme to customers, so Chevy eventually settled on the “Silverado” model name 😅

    • @troyfankell6581
      @troyfankell6581 2 года назад

      Another step deeper into this;
      when GM changed from the square-body (73-87) to the OBS (Old-Body-Style) in 1988 on the half-ton 1500, they continued the 2500, 3500, and SUVs in the square-body. The 3/4 and 1-ton changed in 1990 and the Suburban and Blazer changed in 1992. These in between models were designated R2500 and R3500 for 2WD and V2500 and V3500 for 4WD.
      I have a 1991 R2500 3/4 ton Suburban, which is the majority of the reason I know this.

    Slammed and new not really my thing also but the Trio is back and I am liking it more and more. And the Datsun in the end just 👌. And for the end, I like the Mazda B when it's at normal hight and I do appreciate what the owners invested in them but, uh I rather not say it and will end with that. Until next time Daniel 👍

    Nice !! Great to see some different stuff and the ppl building these cars are certainly into them!! What’s the go re: Japanese regs with LHD cars ? I thought that older cars were super hard to get / keep registered & assumed that US stuff would be super hard to be made compliant as well.
    Thx 🙏 as always Daniel. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see your project car.

    (Oh, Scion's actually Toyota's attempt at a more youth-oriented branding in America, they eventually gave it up and made em all Toyota's again. Like the new Toyota 86 was the Scion FR-S here for a number of years.

      Having no problem with some alternate content Daniel San. Maybe the all the LHD goodness is due to these cars being imported by the many US servicemen based in Japan? Or maybe copying the USDM mini truck scene requires LHD for max authenticity?

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  Год назад

      Hi Chris. Your comment really took me by surprise so I went and rewatched it to see how it is you feel the way you do.
      I like the cars I like and I tend to skip over the cars I don't. Fair enough, but I'm a firm believer in every car having its fans, and I routinely say that to anyone sprouting any anti-car BS. Deep dive my Instagram & Facebook posts and comments and observe that, but also the 99.99% car-positive comments from fans who are on-board with the views I strongly share.
      0:36 "There's no hate here... but there's no love either." Indifference is not hate. Not knowing a car genre is not hate. In the video's description I write, "Personally, this automotive sub-culture wasn't on my radar, so it's all new to me". Lack of knowledge, lack of experience is not hate.
      0.52 "This is USDM world... worlds of cars I'm just not familiar with"
      Look, I have to get ready for work. But, I'm telling you. Any 'low-key' anything stems from my lack of confidence in delivering any meaningful commentary. I'm walking by cars and bikes and saying, "um, there's a car I know nothing about".
      As for why I made the video; I needed to put out a video. Sure, it's an example of me putting out a video that others would find more of interest than myself. Dangerous, because it gets me in trouble with true fans. I can't know (and love) every car genre
      "Hurt to watch"?? Maaaan. That hurts
