I’ve always found them to be an interesting family. We ‘ll never know the real truth about it all. Still I think that a lot has been exaggerated by their enemies. During the renaissance period there we lots of influential and rich families in all the renowned cities of Europe. They wouldn’t have acted different from them. The Medici’s of Florence were also renowned for their killing of political opponents.

Just the fact that the eldest started the inquisition in Spain should give you a clue as to how ruthless they were. I do agree with you on killing for any reason really not just in the renaissance though, we just happen to have a little more documentation. Only in the last century, have people thought we are now civilized, and have put that ALL behind us lol. Funny read about the French Revolution, its crazy now I have a computer nd if I try a google what Napoleon wrote about it i have a hard time finding. I remember one of of the lines in his Journal talking about people cutting the hearts out of people chest and eating it. I believe that was 1789, Not positive so I like to say 1800, so 221 years ago. Considering America was founded in 1776 and slavery ended in 1865 so it lasted 89 years, and well if your a white man you are automatically racist in America. Well just does not give many years for humans to become so civilized...just saying

Cesare Borgia did not flee to Italy but to Navarre, whose monarchs were his relatives of some sort. He served Navarre as captain and died in the banderizos' wars. He was buried in Biana's cathedral but upon conquest by Charles V, his corpse was moved to the entrance of the church so people ignominously walked over him, so strong was the hatred of the Spanish monarchs.

    • @josephcarmona7001

@@elaminedio2654 - Well, I'd argue that "holy books" are also idols, idols of ink and paper, idols of words. What's the difference between an idol made of plastic art and an idol made of oratory art? It's all art, artifact, not the real deal.
Or maybe it can be "the real deal" if one accepts that all is, from the sweetest fruit to the most bitter poison, from the most altruistic saint to the most vile criminal. I.e. if one embraces the only realistic interpretation of God as Everything, as Reality Itself.
In my view Cesare Borgia was not that evil, just a bit less conceited or more maligned than others. In fact, his Aragonese ("Spanish") political foe, Ferdinand "the Catholic" was surely worse in many senses, as was his grandson Charles V. Some have argued that Machiavelli actually implied Ferdinand when he put Caesar as example, arguable of course but he had to thread carefully in his day, and also Caesar was more of an image of the Italian liberator "prince" he hoped to summon with his book.
To me, Caesar redeemed himself by defending Navarre against the Aragonese ("Spanish") aggression under the pretense of "civil war" and dying fighting for a good cause. To Machiavelli he embodied the hope of a strong and pragmatic political leader that might unify Italy and liberate it from the oppression by the foreigners. He was not idealistic enough, I guess, because in the end it was the much more romantic Garibaldi and his thousand teenager Red Shirts who did the job... centuries later.

Cardinal Del la Rovere made his life's mission to oust Rodrigo as pope. He even went to king of France to try go oust him. Were the Borgias saints or even good people? Probably not, but they were not the deviates they are portrayed by history.

Interesting video, a lot of history to cover in a short space of time. Hate to be that guy but need to correct the end bit - Cesare didn’t return to Italy he fled to Navarre, where King John of Navarre made him a commander in a military campaign he was about to launch. He wasn’t assassinated - during a siege, he chased after a group of enemies at night and became estranged from his comrades. Enemy soldiers ambushed him and killed him. They were probably pretty mad about it too as although they stripped his body for fancy possessions, he’d have been worth a lot more as a hostage to ransom if they’d have been able to see who he was.

Is that first painting contemporary with their lives? If it was, the types of gossipy conversations it would start practically jump out at you. Because whatever it "says", it's definitely saying something.

Can we just decide how to pronounce Cesare already? Because I heard the narrator pronounce it five different ways in this video. Anyone else notice that too, cause it's driving me crazy. 😅

Can we agree on the pronunciation of the family's surname? The "i" is not pronounced. It is there to soften the "g". hence "borsha"

Honestly, I have known some facts about the family, including their scandals and famous femme fatale, Lucrezia! However, today, I would like to explain my opinion about them. They are one of the worst and most ambitious families in the world! Thank you very much for presenting them. I always love history. And, I also love this channel.
