Thank you Matt but the Jury is out, went for a drive and mirror still shifted. Starting to make me crazy, have to step up the engineering and disassemble the ball joint looking for flaws

You know, I actually did not know that 🙂 learn something everyday . In my case I disconnected the vacuum advance on the distributer and run just the centrifugal for advance. That chalk might not hold up to moisture. Use a couple of globs of hot glue on the joint. You can break it free after it dries, but it will still provide friction to hold the mirror in place like the chalk, but is waterproof
Hey Wally I was thinking of you just on Saturday and was wondering how things were going. Glad to see all is well. Besides the issues you discussed how does it drive besides?
Hey Dave, she is doing well. There are a few gremlins with the interior/fog light delay circuit as the interior light stay on even after doors are closed and ignition on. I think I created a Frankenstein by adding too many features to the old car. I am going to "simplify" this part of the car over the next few days so that should take care of it. Other than a few squeaks and rattles we are good to go. I am on Monday's call with JDG but quietly listening in the back ground.
Hi Wally, the car looks great! I couldn't help but notice you have all the same accessories on me on my 68 FB, including the Vintage Air, and I have the same bracket. Could you share with me that three belts and lengths you used? Thanks!
Great question, I know the alternator off the top of my head is a gates 25-7417 (41.5 inches) but you have to wait until morning for the PS and AC when I can get those numbers. It took me 5 tries to get all three the right length
@@jeffunderdahl8605 they are all gates belts. you know the alternator already , the PS is 15470 or 47 inches and the AC is 25-7500 which is 50 inches. Hope these work or at least close enough to make small adjustments. I tried the "string" method where you loop a string around the pully's and measure the string, well that was a WASTE of time. let me know how it goes. Oh, and if you have the same upper rad hose you need to shorten the end that attaches to the thermostat housing as it interferes with the AC idler pully. You will see when you put it together. Good luck
@@68mustangrestoration34 Wally, thanks for the part numbers! I was about to try to the string method myself, so thank you for saving me that time. I was looking up the Alt belt pn last night and found a few different versions of that that pn. Some were 42.5" and some were 41". And both were Gates belts. Can you suggest a specific type of Gates belt? Thanks again for your help!
@@jeffunderdahl8605 Unfortunately I am trying to find a different manufacturer that is a little wider as these waste so much of the v groove and sit low in the groove. then they squeal when under load and second the nubs in the belt allow the belt to stretch so as I tighten the belt I am good for a few days and then the squeal comes back and I find the belt is loose again. and yes I adjust the belt for 1 inch deflection in the longest gap. The part numbers are right from the belt so they will be the exact replacement as you are right. the numbers are misleading as I tried a few belts (my local napa store was great as I took a bunch and returned those that did not fit). if one belt was too loose I moved down BUT was still too loose as the part numbers do not reflect actual size that well.
Unfortunately I have not yet measured my mileage as I have not done any real highway driving. But the small tank on these cars makes it seem the milage is not so good as I have to get gas a lot. Next time I fill up I will record milage and see how far I go on tank.
Very ingenious mirror repair. The car looks great Wally!
