In 2017, I booked a sailing with RCCL Harmony of the Seas with my two young boys. We were lucky enough to receive a FREE upgrade from an Oceanview Balcony to a Grand Suite!!! I was completely unaware of the upgrade as I do not recall receiving an email about it. I found out about the upgrade when I was printing out the luggage tags. That's when I noticed the change in our cabin number. At first I was very annoyed because I had meticulously picked our cabin because of it's location. A cruise on the Oasis class was a bit pricey for me as a single mom and it took me a couple of years to pay off this trip. So, imagine my surprise when I look at the deck plans and see where we were moved to! I was so surprised by it that I couldn't bring myself to even believe it and tell my boys. I was literally waiting for the shoe to drop at check-in with someone telling me it had been a HUGE mistake. 😂😂😂. Well, it wasn't! It was about THE nicest surprise that RCCL could give any tired mom on her vacation. I was SO grateful! We had such a wonderful trip! ❤
I got a free upgrade from economy to business class on a long haul flight from Tokyo to SFO on ANA. I was in the lounge and a crew member was very helpful answering several lengthy questions I had. I told her how helpful she was and I asked for her name so I could put in a compliment for her on the ANA website (I was bored and had several hours in the lounge so I figured why not?) I had no idea that she upgraded me until I got on the plane and when I scanned my ticket it beeped and they handed me my new "correct" ticket with the upgraded seat. It never hurts to be friendly!
I booked an inside cabin with MSC and they upgraded us for free to a regular balcony 1 month before the cruise. It was a nice surprise, but, ultimately, we did bid for the yacht club and bid the minimum amount and got a deluxe balcony Yacht club cabin. Best decision I made, our cruise was amazing. On my last princess cruise, I actually got offered a downgrade for a free cruise, so I took it and downgraded from balcony to inside. Got a free 5 days cruise on Princess Plus package. It was very nice. I did enjoy the inside cabin.
I havent gotten an upgraded state room but I *did* get my chocolate wendy's frosty for free because they were out of vanilla that my son wanted as well 😂
Actually, we got upgraded by Princess 2 days ago from our balcony cabin to a mini suite! Without doing anything. I'm guessing the cruise line wanted to sell the lower cost room to try and fill the ship before the cruise takes off early next week.
I had booked a Seaview cabin on a ship because it was a shorter cruise. Unbeknownst to me they upgraded me to a balcony. I didn't know until I arrived and was checking in. I imagine due to the lower capacity it must have been easier for them to have the guests spread out over fewer decks. We were even given the amenities that "class" of cabin received. It was lovely
A week before the departure date (Sept. 26, 2023), I booked a 26-night transpacific cruise on Princess Cruises' Royal Princess from Seattle to Sydney. I went with the cheapest option: guaranteed interior room. Five days out, I received an email from Princess saying that I was given a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe obstructed balcony cabin, which actually turned out to be one of the largest and best balconies you could ask for on the ship (aside from the suites). Including taxes and fees, the total price as a solo traveler, no joke, was $1,010 USD.
Great video!! You can also get upgrade by having your TA call the cruiseline to honor a new fare offer and they did!! We originally had an ocean view and with new fare offer I received via email for minor price increase of around $550, we got balcony cabin, free drinks for entire family and Wi-Fi added!! Woohooo! Cannot wait to surprise the family at Christmas with this gift for spring break on Celebrity next year!!
We recieved a categorie upgrade the one time we used a travel agent, which was also our first Princess cruise. We got an aft balcony that was super huge.
I scored an upgrade in my flight from Sydney to Auckland way back in ‘96 by being young and terrified looking and travelling sans parents. I was 21 and the stewardess asked if I’d like to take the stairs and I was all goggle-eyes asking what was up the stairs. I truly had no clue. It was the best! But then I was back in cattle for the flight to Argentina. Most recently was my cruise booked in 2019. I’d booked a balcony but then upgraded myself to a mini suite for a further $1300 in 2020 when people were being isolated in cabins due to Covid. It was slated for 2021 but got pushed back to 2022 and then cancelled. My money for the upgrade was refunded but I accepted the date and itinerary change. Flash forward to Jan 2023 and they still had me being in the mini suite. So I technically scored a free upgrade. Then I got Covid second last day and got stuck in my cabin. Then they gave me just over $700 for being confined in my cabin, which paid for a third of the cost of my next cruise. 😁🤭🥳
Fantastic tips - the bidding system sounds like a great option to try. Also - a big thank you for the photo postcard, what a lovely Patreon perk to receive in my mailbox. With a hand written note even, you're the best. Keep up the great work guys!
I had my first cruise this past august and was free upgraded to midship. Quite nice after bidding for sea view but I wouldn’t book inside again it was nice but I’ll go for a sea view next time.
Booked our very first cruise and it's el-cheapo guaranteed inside cabin on MSC lirica... went to see the upgrade bid option you mentioned and just found out we've been spontaneously upgraded to a seaview suite! Well chuffed 😊
In may, i booked an MSC interior room on the Magnifica and was upgraded to a balcony. It was amazing. I went on the MSC Seashore this past week and i gambled and ended up in an interior. I tried calling to upgrade cheaper but they wanted almost 900 dollars for a balcony upgrade. So about a week before, i saw that alk oceanview staterooms were sold out. I went ahead and did the the online bidding on an oceanview for $390 more for 7 days. The gamble paid off and i ended up with the balcony cabin for the lowest oceanview upgrade price.
Oh dear, I was planning on batting my eyelashes when I arrived at our MSC cruise for spring break and asking for a freebie, I guess I can ditch that scheme. 😂 love your channel guys ,you both do a fantastic job!
Our family will be going on our first cruise on the quantum of the seas soon. Originally was just my wife and I as the daughter had study but her schedule changed so book her and her friend in a Lower quality room. Hoping to put some of these tips into action and score the girls a nice upgrade. Try and keep them out our room a bit haha
We scored in an upgrade in February 2022, when cruises were sailing at 50% capacity. I got an Aft-Facing Haven Suite with the minimum bid on NCL. That doesn’t happen anymore. But now we don’t sail unless we are in the Haven. With all of the NCL cuts though, after our next reserved cruise with NCL, we are going to try the Rock Star on Virgin.
I could never be bored watching RUclips ooops you too, lol. I’m excited about the future with both of you. You both seem REAL which some others do not. If people have bad feelings and feel the need to be bullies then they should go elsewhere. Keep up the great job and Asia sounds amazing. Luv you guys keep it up.
Great video. I’m booked on the Crown Princess, September 2 cruise to Alaska. I booked an Ocean View as a balcony was much more than I was willing to pay. When the bidding option came up I made a minimum bid for a regular balcony with my bid ending in an odd number. I was surprised & happy yesterday when I received a notice from Princess that my bid was excepted. I went from deck 5 to deck 14 port side in the forward side of the ship & saved around $1,000. With 38 cruises on Princess I was aware that my stateroom could be anywhere. Princess kept telling me that my bid was too low to be excepted. Thanks again for All of your videos.
We booked a cruise early early, and when we arrived to the ship, we were upgraded to aqua class on the Celebrity ascent. The aqua class was an additional 1500 US upgrade charge but we got that one for free. Glad we did because the class we felt was just not worth the additional charge, but it was fun to try
So last September I had a week cruise booked on MSC seaside in an interior cabin. About a week before the cruise I call the line directly to inquire about upgrading to the balcony with the whirlpool tub and explained the special occasion. When they told me the price I couldn’t afford it so I asked the price of a normal balcony room. I could afford that so I paid it and a couple days later when I looked at my ticket they assigned me the whirlpool balcony room 11070! I’d like to think this was the works of the wonderful people at MSC but maybe it was just luck? The world may never know!
While not exactly an upgrade, I have heard that if you gamble a lot in the casino you may get a voucher for a free cruise. Be sure to always insert your key card in the machine and be sensible and spread out your gambling over several days and observe your limits.
Do the bid letters go to agent or directly to passengers? I know some people on my cruise got bid request but I didn’t! If I got a real good deal to begin with, would that mean no option for me to bid for upgrade?
Hi! I’m booking a msc yacht club cruise, can you help me please? I always cruise with msc but a lot of video says that is one of the worse cruise lines… would be the first in yacht club, because since now I always travelled in msc but without yacht club. I don’t know if change cruise line or try yacht club. Thanks!
Our P&O post covid staycation gave us an inside to balcony upgrade. Other than that we've only had minor upgrades from inside aft to inside nearer the middle. Had our first offer to bid on upgrade from P&O recently. It was extortionate. I think higher than it would have been at time of booking.
Great info. But unfortunately i am having a not so fun time in trying to upgrade on MSC. I recently saw the video of benanddavid video . Smh. So i got a complimentary cruise from my casino and chise msc for 1st time. I called to upgrade they said 400 something to balcony i said ill take it and then said they couldn't do it bc it was a casino cruise. I called casino number and same room was 1250 dollars. I asked about the room bid upgradr and they replied i wasn't part of it bc once again i had a casino cruise. I did get email in regards to bid upgrade i did the max and my bids were cancelled . I called and asked why and they said my bid upgrade was sent in error. I am trying to upgrade but feel they think i got a free cruise which in turn i spend thousands at casino. Do Ben and David have any suggestions or anyone who watched this video??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TY

RCCL impresses me too

I was moved from an inside to a balcony. Found in at check in. It does still happen but far less now. My upgrade was in 2022.

Don’t you think you might of gotten the upgrade because you and David are “Famous”! Love you guys!
Ben you're such a brilliant presenter, very clear and precise, you have great screen presence xx

I'm on my 1st RC cruise in December. Received my offer up email. I bid for a GS 🤞🏾🤞🏾
Currently in a GTY Balcony
We were upgraded to a balcony from an inside cabin on our British Isles cruise on Royal Princess in 2015. We were ecstatic.

We were up graded on our NCL Bermuda cruise in 2019 to a superior balcony with bath, we were extremely pleased as only put in a cheeky low bid!

Can you do a video on the gyms on ships. This can cover the type, quality and range of the equipment found.

Oh. I thought you were on the Spectrum of the Seas leaving out of Singapore when you got your bidded upgrade.
I have upgraded on Princess 😊 in the past.
Thank you for this. After watching your video this last Sunday, we’re really looking forward to your next one this Sunday.
Thank you for the video!
Good news
THANK YOU
Funny you should say no one is gonna get a free cabin upgrade unless you’re a celebrity. But the celebrities are the ones that can afford with ease 😂.
did you get the double points with the bid ?
Hi, can you go on the now Queen Mary 2 ship

We think a lot has to do with your level on a cruise line
Never take GTY
I can tell you MSC, doesn't do upgrades.
what happend to this channel? no videos in 6 months.. concentrating on the main channel i guess
