- Psychological Considerations Across the Lifespan of Congenital Heart Disease
PRESENTER
Adrienne Kovacs, PhD, CPsych
Psychologist, Equilibria Psychological Health
SESSION DESCRIPTION
Approximately 1% of all newborns have congenital heart disease. Despite impressive advances in diagnostic and treatment approaches in recent decades that allow for the majority to now reach adulthood, these individuals are at elevated risk of psychological difficulties. This presentation will focus on (i) factors that contribute to the psychological well-being of individuals with CHD., (ii) psychological outcomes, and (iii) intervention opportunities. Although the focus is congenital heart disease, it is hoped that themes will translate to psychological considerations when taking care of individuals with other congenital or pediatric-onset health conditions.
