      CBinID I’m from Rexburg! I love Idaho. But i try to tell people it’s not that cool there. Because I don’t want people to ruin it like a lot of other states I’ve been to.

    I remember riding though Idaho last year. I never gave Idaho much thought but that place was beautiful. We took a pretty direct non-interstate route though there but that was some of the most beautiful scenery of the trip.

    This is a great series, thanks! Each episode is more fun than the last. It even made my night of sticking my swelling foot in a bucket of ice enjoyable, and that is truly something. Also at 27:40, glad to see you didn't replace that front fender from ep 3.

    Film permits for what? and what kind of Film permits are needed? and where?

    • @electricgenie966
      @electricgenie966 8 лет назад

      I guess if you are filming to make money, you may want to get permits (Permission). If you are just doing it for fun there's no reason to get any permits.

    • @mountainman8436

      maybe not. but realize that the fees for such permits help keep our wilderness accessible. Personally, I will happily pay the fees if it helps to keep these areas open for recreation.

    For experienced travellers why didn't you start the good vehicle before jump starting the dud one? It ensures you have a running vehicle and also makes much better voltage transfer across the jump leads. A basic rule understood in the wilds of Africa.

    I don't know what to say.
    I have been driving for seventeen years trying to find myself. I started with a 63 Ford Fairlane in north Idaho and have been all over the country. I abandoned the 'motorhead' hotrod genre five years ago still not having found myself, having driven across the US, spent countless hours driving a M113A1 in the US Army, and having driven countless types of vehicles all over the world.
    Two years ago I bought a near-derelict 1948 Willys CJ2A that had been stretched two feet between the front seats and the rear axle as a hunting/camping rig and a daily driver.
    My current goal has been to build it as Willys might have in 1948 if they had built an expedition truck on a Jeep chassis in the late 1940s. That said, I intend to include modern safety gear and design in an inconspicuous manner - like a modern V6 power train, brakes, winch, navigation. etc.
    I have watched countless videos looking for inspiration on how to build my truck, and have had scant luck finding videos posted by people doing what I want to do with my jeep.
    I discovered your video series just yesterday and have finally discovered what I have been looking for all this time.
    Thank you for posting these amazing videos. Your frankness regarding the trials you have encountered and how you have dealt with them are very refreshing.
    I am hoping to have the Willys 'trail reliable' mechanically by the end of 2017. If finances work out, I'd like to have it completely 'trail survivable' by the end of 2018. Meaning that if we're caught out in a blizzard during elk season, we can either get out successfully or have the gear on hand to weather the storm.
    I'm going to keep watching your videos, and hopefully sometime in the future we'll join you on the trail.
    Les Berg

      Lester Berg, if you haven't already, check out expeditionportal.com! They have a forum dedicated to overlanding in vehicles of all kinds, ranging from mild weekenders to the ultimate go around the world rigs. Tons and Tons of build threads and travel reports from all over the world. Awesome community as well, super helpful! Some of the people on there have been doing this kind of thing since the 60s. I wish you the best of luck with your build, and I hope you achieve your goals!

      I'll check i out. So far I've been focusing on the mechanicals. I just wrapped up front axle gear work and a disk brake upgrade. This summer I'm hoping to have the funds to replace the bearings and seals in the Dana 41 rear axle, and from there it'll be on to the ROPS and a rear tire carrier for two tires and four 5 gallon cans for water/fuel.I'll check out Expedition Portal shortly.

      That's the case in every state that i know of. It's just another way the government has found to steal from the citizens of this country. Sounds like something Al Gore would come up with. If you want to fart , pay a fee. If you want to film, pay a fee. If you want to breath "the governments" air pay a fee.

    why don't people ever drive american truck to do this stuff? like a bronco or a blazer? maybe even a ramcharger... it seems to me that it would be a lot more inexpensive.

    • @twotwentyswift
      @twotwentyswift 10 лет назад +5

      Probably not with the way they guzzle gas. These guys cover alot of ground and fuel is most likely the main cost. I took my full sized Chevy through Wyoming, Montana and Idaho a couple of years ago and about went broke. Bought my Tacoma doublecab after that. My early Bronco is my favorite rig for serious rockcrawling but my Tacoma is a far better long range/expedition vehicle, and the reliability is awesome.

    • @cjhawk67
      @cjhawk67 10 лет назад +1

      twotwentyswift You would be into it less if you took a bronco, blazer, or ramcharger and dropped a bread truck 4bt cummins 4 banger turbo diesel in it though and then you got better reliability then one of these newer ifs cars with the range and power to boot. I have a total of 6k-7k into my 78 w150 with the 4bt swap and thats with a larger turbo and fuel cranked up. I'm guessing i'm pushing about 400hp and 400ftlbs and I get around 30-40mpg city/highway.

    • @timdgsr

    • @twotwentyswift
      @twotwentyswift 8 лет назад

      timdgsr Compared to what? I'm guessing it gets a lot better gas mileage than a Ford F350 with a 460 and off road tires. And god knows it 100 times more reliable.

    • @timdgsr
      @timdgsr 8 лет назад

      +twotwentyswift Compared to the blazer, bronco, or ramcharger listed in the original comment. Or you can ignore the context and just start picking random gas guzzlers.......
