One small correction. Paper Excellence owns the mill and were responsible for shutting it down. Catalyst Papers was the former owner before PE bought the Powell River, Crofton and Port Alberni mills it owned. From what I remember, the official name is something like: "Catalyst Papers Powell River Division, a Paper Excellence Company". Quite a mouthful. The other two mills are similarly named.

The mill was established by The Powell River Company in 1912 as the first manufacturer of newsprint in Western Canada.[2] By 1913 it had two paper machines, and four by 1917.[3] The Powell River Company was merged into MacMillan Bloedel in 1960. Ownership passed to Pacifica Papers in 1998, which was again bought by Norske Skog Canada in 2001, becoming Catalyst Paper in 2005. Now closed permanently
