Yes indeed I remember that one you put your own batteries in it and got it to work on the spot truly a great find. Remember back in 1957 when i was 7 yrs old my Dads Friend Harry dropped off the Transoceanic to listen to and my older brother Ron and I listened to it all the time. Always great to see them in really nice condition
I recently did an initial restoration on a Y600, but am revisiting it right now because I did it rather quickly. This new series will be fun to watch. Thanks!
Great video to know what to look for in obtaining one of these. I just picked up an AM Zenith 6G001YZ1 from a yard sale that is a little rough but all there, and now I want to get a Tran-Oceanic from the same era to go with it and your video helped a lot, thanks!
If you ever worked on one, beware that they can be tricky. They use locktal tubes, and have usually brittle rubber wiring. The miniature tube sets are much easier to work on, and perform better in my opinion. The 6G is a neat AM portable. That has the locktals and rubber wiring too.
Looking forward to watching the restoration videos here. I own two of the transistor Transoceanic radios the Royal 3000-1 and the Royal 7000 and both still work great. I’d like to get a tube model to add to the collection.
I really appreciate this video; I too own an L600 model I bought at a hamfest about 12 years ago for a whopping sum of $37.00 ... so as far as I am concerned, I got a great bargain. I have done a modicum of restoration, mostly a few cap replacements and all (NOS) new old stock tube set. I still have all the original tubes that came with it and I'm considering having them converted to solid state modification as a spare set. One of the original tubes is bad as there was no reception at all when I first started troubleshooting it and replacement of the tubes resolved that issue. I also need to find a substitute battery case that I could use for the battery needs. It would be great if one were available that I could use rechargeable batteries in. It has the original manual and schematic, as well as the Sams' photofact I bought for it. There is still a spot on the chassis where if I tap on the top of the chassis a noise is made so there is something worn or loose in that area. I also plan to recap the powerline filter cap; my plan is to disconnect the original and substitute new ones underneath the chassis and keep the original looks. I do not know if the original rectifier diode is any good since I don't have the battery system operational at this point. It has the original power cord and does work quite well on AC with no 60 Hz hum or other issues related to the power line. Thank you for posting this video sir.
For an unknown reason, sometimes folks will remove the cord reel. There can be problems with them but can be relatively easy to resolve. Thanks for stopping by!
I've got 2 decent garage fresh t.o.'s here. a G-500, and a H-500. They both need to be gone through, and the H-500 does play when I smoke tested them. Interested...... for you...... Cheep!
Radio wild well that's cool , I worked the night shift and then cooked breakfast for 20 so we had sausage gravy , biscuits and eggs ect. I only made 6 contacts but I'm not competitive and that was my first time ever on he.
If it's complete without any missing or broken parts, It's worth between 60 to 70 dollars. Electrically restored and playing 100-120 dollars. Completely restored - 150-180 dollars. If it is the leather version, add 25 percent. That's pretty much current market value as of today 08/23/2019. I hope this helps....Thanks for stopping by! - RW Bob

I picked one up free at yard sale today and it works…great radio! So lucky. Missing knob brights but everything works

I was gifted the next later version and it still had the hang tag and the property of sticker as well as the schematic, but no cord reel...😊

@@umajunkcollector Neither. GM sold it's small interest in Subaru to Toyota in 2005.
2things never remove &re insert the tubes while on .1r5 work for 1l 6 not perfect but I don't play it with 1l6 too expensive only use am . anyway.😎
