Hives are very commonly seen and they are called as Allergy by lay people. So what is the cause if these hives? Hives look like flat swelling on the skin on the arms, on the face. It can come on any part of the body including the hands and feet. So it usually looks like tiny red skin elevations, but it can become large flat map like areas of elevation as well. In medical term it is called as Urticaria and it is so common that it is believed that more than 90% of the population will have hives atleast once in their lifetime. It can be seen as a reaction and mostly people describe it as mosquito bites or ant bites , which become more swollen but hives become bigger and bigger and it can become a very severe problem as it disturbs the activities because are busy scratching, but if it involves your eyes, your lips, you are compromised even the breathing. So it is a serious condition, however it can be seen very very commonly as a common condition. So what are the common causes of Hives? It can be an insect bite allergy, you can be having it because of insect bite or it can be because of some food or some drug that does not agree with you. Usually people are able to tell us that, if we had one particular food like milk or egg, then I used to get this kind of allergy. It may look like mild redness or itching when you scratch , but it comes every time you eat that particular medicine or that particular food. The other thing is sometimes with chronic infections, especially with Hepatitis infection also you se hives. So when you first see a doctor the doctor will ask you how long you have had this symptom. Is it something very new or few days old, then the concerns may be like insect bite or food allergy or medicine allergy but when it starts to last longer and longer then it could be the marker of some underlying problem like thyroid problem or hormone problem or viral infection and urinary infection. The common treatment of Hives is Antiallergy tablets called as Antihistamines. There are many types of Antihistamines. It doesn’t mean that if you don’t respond to one Antihistamines, it will not work for you. Antihistamines are very mild medicines they don’t have side effects. So you can take them for long period of time safely. Sometimes when the case is not diagnosed then they can be taken for months together, even years together, please don’t worry, so you have to rule out the underlying condition. So if you are having hives, which are not responding to treatment. Please speak to your dermatologist and get a more clarity on what is happening to you.

I bought a new washing powder called “Earth choice” woke up in the morning after a terrible sleep and my eyes lids were swollen shut, my throat was swollen up, my heart was beating like crazy and I had hives all over my body. The palms of my hands were purple. I went to the hospital and they told me it was the medication that I take a tiny dose of, so I had to come off that and didn’t sleep for TWO weeks due to withdrawal - mirtazapine. All while I had a newborn baby I was breastfeeding. The symptoms didn’t go away until I realised it was from the sheets and clothing and nothing to do with my medication so I went back on it and finally slept. I was so sleep deprived I was twitching and freaking out, my husband was about to take me to the psych ward as I almost lost my mind, all from washing detergent! The same thing happened recently when we had weeks of rain where we live and my husband took the sheets to the laundromat but didn’t use the washing powder I sent him with. At least this time I know what it’s from! Now I make my own washing detergent, I grate sunlight soap and add some eucalyptus oil.

I was also suffering from this from 2021… it used to occur randomly… but instead of taking medicines to suppress it… I tried to study about it and understood that it is all due to increased pitta dosh in body… basically I can tell you what I did.. I replaced moisturisers by coconut oil and I apply twice on my full body… I started having food without much spice .. in dinner I used to take only dal with salad or tried to take light food… I completely avoided red chilly and the garam masalas and had very simple food…. I took safi also..started running and weight lifting… basically I improved my lifestyle with simple food….. I reduced carbs… it’s gone 🎉…I replaced my wheat atta by raagi .. avoided raw onions.. tomatoes… garlic adrak… and used very less quantity of them in food

Hi there, if anyone is suffering from urticaria then please try to cut any kind of processed sugar. Sulphite are usually used as preservative in coconut or sugar. Please avoid anything that contains sulphite. I had urticaria for 4-5 years but after cutting off processed sugar and sulphites i am totally fine.

Man this is the same case with me too I'm 18 and same thing happens with me and mostly in rainy and winter season
I tried everything and I work as a tech in Pharmacy. My dermatologist finally prescribed Hydroxyzine 25mg and it was amazing, hives disappeared in just hours for me.. The only thing it made me feel the next day like I had a hang over, but better than having itchy hives. I went next searching and trying body wash. Aveeno is good but itching starts right away. I get an unbelievably itchy red hive rash every winter around late October to March. It starts at my lower spine and breaks out all over my stomach, torso, chest, down my sides. Once you start itching it flares up big time. It's so satisfying to scratch but it goes off and returns seconds later just as bad. It never goes off. I've tried loads of creams. The only thing that relieves it slightly, and I mean slightly, is a mixture of sudocreme nappy cream and sudocreme lotion mixed. Nothing else touches it.

whenever this hives starts to come out to my skin i will drink antihistamine and in an hour or 2 they will be gone but after 3 days it will be back again. im a bit worried of this hives because they keep showing and showing. i think i got it from an insect bite and sometimes i feel some pain or crawling inside. I hope this hives will leave me . Im really worried because its almost 1 month until now. is Sulfur soap okay whenever this allergies show?
