I love your intriguing soliloquy with the camera facing the food, and the sounds of the plastic and utensil and spudding of the food--it's quote humorous and amusing in contrast to the serious discussion! Your videos are great! And, even though you're extremely well trained beyond most of us, your piano playing is really inspiring to little ole me. Thank you for your medley of videos and connecting with all of us!

Great idea, Tiffany to explain a bit about the program you’re going to play before the concert. That’s kinda became a tradition here in Germany where I live. I myself feel strange NOT talking to a public during my concerts and I see musicians do it more and more even during big concerts. Takes more energy from musicians but totally worth it!

Thanks to you (& Steinway & the Kennedy Center & Robert & Clara) for a wonderful recital!
(I was the one who shouted, "Welcome back!" when you were telling us how you hadn't performed in front of a live audience for over a year.)
It was manifest how much you love their music - you really poured your soul into it!
And it was great to get to see you live. (So this person *isn't* just dots on a screen after all!)
My housemate & I both thoroughly enjoyed it - she had a bit more familiarity with Robert than I, and very much appreciated hearing Clara's music being featured as well.
In the words of 80's gal trio, The Roches, "Keep on doing what *you* do!"
    Fred

Thanks Tiffany. You are doing such enriching, positive things by being You. Your playing in this video of familiar pieces, was so fresh. Couldn't afford a trip to DC; but just unwrapped my 'Meet George Gershwin at the Piano' which HE published in 1938, and preparing for a fancy Christmas party gig on Tuesday.

I love the idea of filming from underneath the piano!! It feels super cosy, but also makes you appreciate the piano as a very large piece of furniture and machinery at the same time, one made of wood as well, which the glossy, shiny black outside appearence makes less tangible.

Wohoo didn't expect GRWM series to come back! Very excited!!
Edit: After watching it, this is a 'literal' GRWM with some amazing insights on how to enjoy classical music! It's very helpful to non-musicians like me who try to appreciate it but aren't sure what to truly look out for! Great idea here!
And Good luck for the concert tomorrow!

I waited until today to look at your video on Schumann. I wanted to participate in the listening even though I am not able to attend your concert. 😭I loved your GRWM video because you took a more human approach with so many connections about your concert - by making this music have life in this way. I love how you are bringing out how much Clara respected and loved her husband, Robert by sharing both of their stories. I also love how you are anting the audience to grow with you as a musician. We all become musicians in a way. Listening is also art in a way we listen to understand what we are hearing. The more we listen with understanding the more we can retain it. I hope I make some sense. =) (Tara)
Mayne best wishes on your concert! Be safe!

Enjoyed watching this and I am just so very excited for your debut at the Kennedy Center. I feel as the others do who have followed your journey all these years, so blessed to have this experience with you. Love the pigeons flying amongst the trees, as well as your practice at Steinway. And, wow, you’re right. I have never seen the Vault so empty!! That is so kind of them to prep a piano for you. I enjoyed the quotes about not really being lost. Finally, I found your stories about the Schumanns very enlightening. You continue to inspire all of us to keep striving everyday in what we’re passionate about. Thank you, Tifanny and congratulations to you !!🙏❣️🎹

I know what you are saying about adapting to different pianos when going to different places. When I was in college, in the 70's, I went to a state school that had an extensive music department that has graduated many great musicians. On time Stan Getz's band came there to play. Probably everyone knows this, Stan was one of the great jazz tenor saxophonists and had a great band. I got to the venue early to watch them warm up. The school supplied a piano for the band to use and you would think it being a music school would supply a great piano. No, they did not, not only was the piano a not very good one but it was out of tune! Now there is adapting but this instrument was just unplayable. No words, I was so embarrassed. Well thank goodness it was early enough that the piano got replaced, with a Steinway by the way, and the concert went on without a hitch. Stan took this all-in stride and actually laughed about it. He was a really class act.
Best wishes with your concert, I know you will do great.

If you think explaining what we feel from music helps then I think you are braver than I had first thought. Music is a wonderful source of comfort even for we so often held to not respond to such encouragements, even then it is a great comfort and wonderful encouragement. I thank all of you artists all of the time over internet channels for helping us absorbers of your endeavour connect to these simple and wonderfully felt understandings.
I hope I explained that ok.

Explaining the listening aspect to Robert Schumann's pieces really helped me interpret his music much better! You're right, it's so much more enjoyable when you realize there are meanings behind every articulation and dymanic in a piece. It's all there for a reason haha! Can't wait to see you tomorrow! You are so adorable & sweet, and so wonderfully talented!!🌺 Program notes are important and can be interesting, but in no way do they enhance the listening experience. Only listening to a piece multiple times can do that… and unfortunately, for a listener at a live concert , there is only so much we can absorb at any given time. Now, if only the performer could play the piece once, showcase / discuss some highlights of that piece, then play it again, then that would be so fantastic!! 😊
