*Coming up on having had this saw for a year....am a casual user and bought it to cut up sections for bowl blanks. Easy to start, **Bestfor.Garden** also recommend even after storage for a couple of months. Simple chain tension adjustment. Just cut up some 20" Osage Orange, including ripping bolts in half (at an angle). Like butter!*
We had a big wind event in May 2024. I never had a need for a gas chainsaw. We needed to be able to cut up trees out of the street. I had a 3.0 amp battery and two 5.0 amp battery. I was able to clear the limbs out of the street and cut up for city to remove. It has performed marvelously. I have now the new 12.0 amp battery that should let me cut for a long time. The tension adjuster/blade removal system is Hands Down the best I have ever seen. NO Special tools or screw drivers are needed to tighten.
I recently bought the 20V Bauer chinsaw and the 5AH battery. After assembly and light duty I thought "ok". Then I put it to work clearing some small trees from a fence. It did everything I asked of it, and didn't even put a dent in the battery charge. Next test: I have much larger tree that fell over in a bad storm. I used a 10in electric saw to cut most of the larger tree branches and even some larger size trunk pieces. I'll further test the Bauer 20V on the rest of that tree trunk.. The Only con I can think of at this time is that it runs/cuts slower than the electric 10in pole saw. The pro is I don't need an extension cord, or gas.
I have the pole saw, fans, inflator, with the 1.5 and 3.0 amp batteries.. have been very impressed with the performance of all. So I recently purchased the chainsaw, Thank You for this video, I myself have never used a chainsaw and this video gave me insight on how to.
Really high-quality video that was both instructional and informative. I especially appreciated you reminding folks to pull the battery when servicing the saw. It’s easy to take short cuts with power tools and end up in the ER. There are plenty of tool videos on RUclips where people take way too many risks when the result could be horrible. That’s a nice saw. Taking down that box elder and cutting the ash proved it’s not a toy. I was going to buy one for limbing around the house, but I’m already on the Ryobi standard, so I stuck with their model, which I’m also happy with. Plus, I’ve got my gas saw for big work. It’s remarkable how far battery power has come in the last 5-10 years. Thanks again and happy cutting.
Great video! Just bought the chainsaw to cut some pine branches at my residence. Not an avid user since I drive a semi truck. This video makes me more confident that I can accomplish my task without issue
Just got one of the Bauer 20V at HF. I already have a leaf blower/snow blower with a charger and 20V 5 Ah battery so didn't need to buy a new battery. Early Christmas... my wife bought it for me actually I am 69 years old and have some arthritis in my right shoulder and my 029 Stihl still cuts great but heavy enough I dread doing any limb work with it. So was looking at a small saw for trimming limbs. Might be able to do some pretty sizeable trees with it though. The FIRST thing I did assembling it was to put on an OREGON R40 chain. I have always liked OREGON chains on my saws when I was cutting for firewood. This 10" OREGON saw was on ly $16 at Lowes. You can also get it at Amazon, delivered with Prime, for $15.78. A nice feature I like about this BAUER 20" saw is that it comes with a chain sprocket on the end. I have seen some power saws that have no sprocket on the end of their bar and they will wear a bit faster and it does hinder the chain in drag, which translates to lost power for cutting. It has an automatic oiler which I considered important. I saw a WORX, but does not have anything but "squirt it on" for an oiler. Who carries a oil can with them all the time. like I say, at 69 with limited strength and arthritis in my right shoulder, I was looking for light weight and just to get the job done. Period.

Knowing how to cut with a chain saw like you do makes a big difference in how the saw looks like it is operating. A sharp chain is the most important thing besides safely operating it.
Nice video review - subbed. I'm having issues with my battery powered chainsaw, and may have to replace it soon. Being pretty heavily invested into the Bauer platform, I'm thinking that I'll probably go that route when I do need to replace it. I think the little black bottle of oil is to soak the chain in prior to use, as per the instruction manual. The actual machine oil to be used for the internals is standard 30W motor oil again, as per the instruction manual (not included, or course).
Bar and chain oil is not just a regular oil. It has additives (I think paraffin?) to make it thick/sticky enough to stay on the bar and not just sling or drip off. If you are ever oiling something as a protectant/rust preventer you'll get better results using bar and chain than regular oil for the same reason.
I’m going to give my thoughts on this. It does simple jobs. I keep a corded 14” next to my splitter. I need a pole saw for clearing some limbs in the driveway. However my driveway is 1 mile long. I’ll be selling the place in a few years. And do not want to spend needless money on cordless. When corded is at garage sales. Dirt cheap I’ll purchase a Honda ui2200 ( I need it for my Skoolie anyway ) to power my corded saws. I’ll keep my corded tools at this time. However today they show that saw for 69.99. Does what needs done. Good video
So you're going to buy a $1200 generator to run $10 tools? Btw the Predator 2000 generator is $450 and everything that a Honda is except its about 8 decibel louder.
Thanks for making this video! This was a solid review with lots of good operational (and general safety) tips. Seemed very fair and objective, too. I work at Harbor Freight and I'm trying to decide if it's worth giving them back a cut of my paycheck each month for some of the tools I see selling for prices I can't ignore. After getting a few Bauer tools (and locking myself into the Bauer battery platform) I'm pleasantly surprised at how this little saw performed here. I'm guessing the 3Ah battery had a lot to do with how the saw performed, because the little 1.5Ah batteries they make just don't cut it for more heavier duty work like angle grinding, etc. Gotta say though, it looks like this chainsaw will be the next addition to the set of tools I'm collecting/building.
My only negative issue with it is that HF doesn't sell replacement chains. I used the saw a lot and even dismantled a 24x24 building with it on 2 batteries. Its a throw away tool but pretty robust.
@@DustinApple I called Oregon customer support recently and was told that the 90PX040G or an R40 chain would work as a replacement (same chain just packaged differently). I bought this Bauer saw, the Oregon greaser, and an Oregon R40 chain as an extra. I'll be trying out the saw tomorrow with the 3A battery. I also have ordered the HF chain sharpener to use on the Bauer and for an 8" Black and Decker pole saw.
Really great job on how you put a good safety lesson in with a good review man! I got some thicc berry bushes in my backyard that a hedge trimmer is a bit too small to go through, and tbh I'm done with uprooting those things, they are like plant rabbits with how they show up. I have a few bauer things and this sold me on the chainsaw. I don't have much to cut, and it's not all the time, so switching to cordless electric is going to be amazing, light, no engine oil or filters, no priming. Lithium outdoor equipment is still underrated and just getting better and better. I wouldn't be surprised if hilti started getting into it soon because they would make incredible outdoor equipment.

Depending on my mood, I don't feel like riding over the trees, that have fallen. So the little saw will come in handy. Anybody that has an everyday carry, is my kind of guy.
I have 1/4” impact driver same brand, great tool, unbelievable it can drive a 3” wood screw into a treated 4x4 just one after another, That impact option makes all the difference, taking off rusty nuts, etc: compared to driving screws with a drill, If this chainsaw is anything like my impact driver it’s a good well made tool, Everyone I showed my impact driver to, when to harbor freight and bought one, Good video, wish I had a chainsaw like that for trim work, at least it’s easy to start,
Check locally but black Friday here it's on sale for 59. Great time to get it. I own the drill, angle grinder, 1/2" impact, the 3/8 ratchet & the tiny power screwdriver. All of which are amazing accept for the angle grinder. I just think it could have more tq but it's the first battery powered one I've had, so nothing to compare it to. I need to get the 1/4" drill driver to complete my set. The 1/2 impact is a BEAST! It's stronger than my air impacts which I thought were tough. Thanks for watching man!
im not super sure about hyper tough but i know that the hypermax 20v bat for bauer charge to 21.5volts when full not 20v i would make sure the hyper toughs arent charged to 20v exact as all tool lines batteries vary on whats the full voltage at the best it could give a higher rpm to the hyper tough or it could burn out the motor its unlikely at such a small voltage difference the overal wattage wont be alot more but there could be safteys for overvoltage built into the hyper tough it would be cool to find out though
Hello everyone. Since I have few cordless tools by Bauer line I decided to buy this chainsaw. I bought it a month ago and so far I used it 2 times. First time to cut some firewood on the campsite at the lake. Second time I used it to cut old pallet seating around the house. After first use I've noticed that oil leaked out of chainsaw. At the camp it was few people so I thought maybe somebody put it on side or something. When I used it at home (after oil refilled) I sat it on the even surface and nobody didn't touch it. Today I've noticed there is no oil in the tank and wet oil stain on the shelf. I was satisfied with this chainsaw. Very handful around the house but I think it should not leak like this. I am not going to refill oil every few cuts. My question is if somebody have a same issue? Should I replace it? Thank you very much for great informative video. Well done. Greetings from Michigan.

The corded 16 inch version i got it for $75 with 1 year warranty. I had a ten inch thick tree that i cut down with the bauer......it did the job very well 👍

I used mine for the first time today and I loved it. It cuts so nicely and easily. I didn’t grease the bar though 😆 I will next time I use it. Luckily I didn’t heavily used it, so it should be alright I guess.

great little saw if you're going camping and want to cut up some firewood, won't bother your neighbors with the noise of a gas saw, and it's very easy to get started, for the price and small projects around the house for the home-owner it's well worth it. Of course if you're a full time tree guy you'll need a good gas saw, but even having one of these in your tool box is still a good idea for those hard to reach smaller limbs that a gas saw is hard to handle...
That actually did better than I expected it to, and no matter how long it sits, it will start on the first pull every time. Battery tools have come an amazingly long way.
A knowledgeable sawyer will one-hand a trim saw all day long. It's knowing when the rule applies. Kickback is specifically caused by tip bumping the wood or burying the tip in the cut. If you are clear from tip bumping when limbing, you are unlikely to get kickback. Kickback is also more extreme with a lighter saw. I greatly appreciate your focus on safety.
I bought the biggest battery (5 amp hour) because the chainsaw requires a lot of power and it usually takes a lot of cutting time to finish most jobs. Also the battery would be adaptable to any battery operated tool that Bauer makes so in this case, the bigger the battery, the better.

With steady use let's call it a hour. I've done everything from trimming in the yard to cutting off truss legs. I even tore down a 16x24 barn with it before losing all the teeth off the chain. Witch I've not yet replaced. Get 2 of the 3amp batteries and it should be plenty of tool for most tasks you need to complete.
fun fact there hypermax batteries unlike some 18v systems that charge to full at 18v these bauers charge to 21.5volts fully charged i know this because my 36volt ebike is 42 volts fully charged and i have used 2 bauers in series to get around in a pinch which gave me 43volts full charge and i surprisingly wel 10 to 15 miles with light pedaling on just 3amps 43 volts my high torque impact wrench and now added the chain saw to my collection and it really is impressive i use it for smaller 1.5 to 2.5 inch trees and it works so well i put it on my ebike rear rack and collect fire wood i watched this video before buying it and made a good choice i believe especially in this time right now i charge up my batteries with my 50 watt solar set up going to a 50amp 12v lithium bank i made from salvaged 18650 cells which gives me a 28 amp max out put i have it set lower i dont need to use that much wattage i have a 800 watt peak 400 watt nominal invertor i know its not much but its self sufficient and gets me buy without spending money on gas or electric and now i have a great way to collect wood in a pinch i may start using it for light building projects as well
can you please make a video. I bought a fat tire bike to convert to E but the battery cost was a enormous factor in me not completing it. If i can power a mid drive with a few 5 amp 20v Bauer batteries that would be HUGE!

I did try the dewalt top handle for a day and went back to my husky. It's nice not having to start a saw in a tree but the weight just isn't low enough for me yet.
Once the bar wears out, you can not replace it. Maybe have to buy a new saw. Can not understand why a company will make something without replacement part.
You're not wearing out a bar on a electric chainsaw. You might have bent it, but you ain't wearing out a bar. It's a $80 unit, for the $30 a new bar would cost You're better off just buying a whole new saw.

Best bar oil is used motor oil that has been strained such as 10w 30 or 40. Never pour the bottom of the container into a saw because it can have lots of junk in it your saw doesn't need.

This Bauer chainsaw looks almost identical to the Walmart's Hyper Tough 10" 20v chainsaw. I wonder if they are the same and just rebranded.
I don't shop at Walmart but I'd be interested to see if the batteries interchange... i have not seen the hyper tough stuff.

My Bauer saw leaks bar oil also, I believe it’s a gravity oiler, not a clutch driven pump that the more expensive saws have
I store my 20V chainsaw Bauer with the chain bar raised upward. I have the same oil leak problem with a gas chain saw.

I used mine for the first time today and I loved it. It cuts so nicely and easily. I didn’t grease the bar though 😆 I will next time I use it. Luckily I didn’t heavily used it, so it should be alright I guess.

great little saw if you're going camping and want to cut up some firewood, won't bother your neighbors with the noise of a gas saw, and it's very easy to get started, for the price and small projects around the house for the home-owner it's well worth it. Of course if you're a full time tree guy you'll need a good gas saw, but even having one of these in your tool box is still a good idea for those hard to reach smaller limbs that a gas saw is hard to handle...

I use my 5ah Makita battery in Bauer tools using an adapter.
Bauer now has 8 & 12ah batteries.

A knowledgeable sawyer will one-hand a trim saw all day long. It's knowing when the rule applies. Kickback is specifically caused by tip bumping the wood or burying the tip in the cut. If you are clear from tip bumping when limbing, you are unlikely to get kickback. Kickback is also more extreme with a lighter saw. I greatly appreciate your focus on safety.

I bought the biggest battery (5 amp hour) because the chainsaw requires a lot of power and it usually takes a lot of cutting time to finish most jobs. Also the battery would be adaptable to any battery operated tool that Bauer makes so in this case, the bigger the battery, the better.
Great advice. I made this video before the 5 amp battery was available but I have 2 of them now. & they are worth the added cost.

Try your local hardware store, mine makes chain saw chains that are same length as the original
I called Oregon customer support recently and was told that the 90PX040G or an R40 chain would work as a replacement (same chain just packaged differently).

With steady use let's call it a hour. I've done everything from trimming in the yard to cutting off truss legs. I even tore down a 16x24 barn with it before losing all the teeth off the chain. Witch I've not yet replaced. Get 2 of the 3amp batteries and it should be plenty of tool for most tasks you need to complete.

fun fact there hypermax batteries unlike some 18v systems that charge to full at 18v these bauers charge to 21.5volts fully charged i know this because my 36volt ebike is 42 volts fully charged and i have used 2 bauers in series to get around in a pinch which gave me 43volts full charge and i surprisingly wel 10 to 15 miles with light pedaling on just 3amps 43 volts my high torque impact wrench and now added the chain saw to my collection and it really is impressive i use it for smaller 1.5 to 2.5 inch trees and it works so well i put it on my ebike rear rack and collect fire wood i watched this video before buying it and made a good choice i believe especially in this time right now i charge up my batteries with my 50 watt solar set up going to a 50amp 12v lithium bank i made from salvaged 18650 cells which gives me a 28 amp max out put i have it set lower i dont need to use that much wattage i have a 800 watt peak 400 watt nominal invertor i know its not much but its self sufficient and gets me buy without spending money on gas or electric and now i have a great way to collect wood in a pinch i may start using it for light building projects as well
can you please make a video. I bought a fat tire bike to convert to E but the battery cost was a enormous factor in me not completing it. If i can power a mid drive with a few 5 amp 20v Bauer batteries that would be HUGE!

I did try the dewalt top handle for a day and went back to my husky. It's nice not having to start a saw in a tree but the weight just isn't low enough for me yet.

You're not wearing out a bar on a electric chainsaw. You might have bent it, but you ain't wearing out a bar. It's a $80 unit, for the $30 a new bar would cost You're better off just buying a whole new saw.

Actually the Bauer line has three batteries: 1.5 Ah, 3 Ah & 5 Ah. So I guess you could say small, medium and large.

Best bar oil is used motor oil that has been strained such as 10w 30 or 40. Never pour the bottom of the container into a saw because it can have lots of junk in it your saw doesn't need.
