Taking into account that the name Gojíra, comes from the Japanese words 鯨 Kujira and ゴリラ Gorira, which translates as Whale and Gorilla, the original translated name would be ''Gohale''.
I am in my shop working on my 1974 Mechagodzilla cosplay and listening to this- :) When 2:13 hit- I started grinning like an idiot, and almost rocking out like Bevis and Butthead. I had forgotten that part of the theme, so good to hear again, especially while gluing spines on my own suit! Thank you for posting this!
Fun fact! Originally This theme *wasn't* intended for Godzilla. In the original movie, it was the theme of the self defense forces and emergency workers who were desperately trying to save Tokyo from Godzilla. The rapid and orderly nature of the theme was meant to convey how they heroically did their duty despite near certain death. The next time this theme was played was Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975). This was the 15th and last Showa era film for Godzilla and by this point the character had become a fully fledged hero, so the heroic nature of the theme was passed on to Godzilla to convey his own heroic resistance against Mechagodzilla, Titanosaurus, and the Blackhole Aliens. By the time the Heisei movies came about, the theme was resurrected because Toho felt that the films would do better if some of the original creators of Godzilla contributed to their making. This included Akira Ifukube, the original composer for the Godzilla series, who's theme is obviously what you're hearing now. By this point, Godzilla was the anti-hero, a ferocious beast of nature, so Ifukube created a new version of the theme that was more 'brutal' for Heisei Godzilla. By this point, in the heisei films, as well as the later Millenium and Legendary/ Reiwa films, this particular theme had become synonymous with Godzilla. Just as he embodies various different roles from hero, villain, or anti-hero, so to does the theme embody these roles, evolving right along with him.
Heisei has the best music IMO. Better audio quality than Showa, with all of the same classic tracks returning along with new and equally fantastic themes.
More than 70 years after the first movie Godzilla (1954) this theme still brings me some good feelings. Luckily like 90% of Heisei, Showa and Millennium movies are dubbed in my mother tongue, spanish, so I was able to watch them in the 90s being a kid. Just... SUPERB.

I've been a Godzilla fan literally my whole life, the only way to placate my crying as an infant was to put a Godzilla movie on, but unfortunately I never got my Godzilla movie moment to hear his theme on the big screen. I saw Godzilla 2000 in theaters but they had given that new theme and you only heard it just before the credits rolled. Then, in 2019, alone at an early showing in a almost empty theater on opening day of KOTM, when I heard the original roar followed by this as the big king made his way into Boston........ I started to laugh, smile, cry, cheer and applauded all at once. 30 years of waiting and I got my moment all thanks to Mr. McCreary, and I'll forever be grateful for that moment.
R.I.P Akira Ifukube, you’re music has led a nation of greatness and has led kaiju to where they are now popularity wise. Without you, I don’t think the cinematic world would be as great as it is today without the big G, and Japan would not have such a great kaiju to become what is essentially its national icon. Long live the King.
The thing that I like about the traditional Godzilla theme is that it sounds like an impending disaster waiting to happen. There is nothing stopping Godzilla from destroying everything in his path and we as humans can do nothing but watch. But Bear Mcreary was able to do something special and new to it. While still keeping elements of that danger present in his theme, he also included chanting and has a more faster tone. It sounds a lot more heroic than previous versions which is fitting for the Monsterverse Godzilla. It presents Godzilla in a way to be looked upon in awe and more as a natural disaster than an impending doom. I hope they bring Bear Mcreary back for the future films.
I watched all his movies since I was little and I was excited about this soundtrack ... and when I heard it on KING of the Monsters I cried a little because 20 years later all my childhood passed through my eyes in that movie theater
Same! Since I was a kid I've watched all the godzilla movies....when this came out on KOTM when Godzilla came from under the ocean and this came on..i got goosebumps and teared up a little...😢
I love the music used in the Godzilla movies. They have menacing power, dread, and yet something heroic/of magnitude. Also really cool illustration of the monsters involved in this video
Godzilla has one of the most iconic themes in movie history, So when I went to see KOTM, imagen my surprise and utter glee when I heard a familiar tune play as Godzilla was rising up from the water. Long. Live. The King!
While I enjoy the background changes with each new theme, I'm glad to see you included the posters as well. The Heisei series posters are some of the greatest of all time. In my opinion.
The heisei hadsome of the best cover art and with Rodan on the cover of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla makes me feel even worse when he dies for Godzilla to comtinue to fight to save his son
My god.. listening through all of them... all the memories... feel like they have been gathering up to the 2019 one.... I still get goosebumps. I'm 53 and still love this theme. Long live GODZILLA
God dam rest in peace Akira you will be missed this theme you created cannot be topped
16:50, that gave me chills. A wonderful recreation of Akira Ifukube's original theme.
I watched all his movies since I was little and I was excited about this soundtrack ... and when I heard it on KING of the Monsters I cried a little because 20 years later all my childhood passed through my eyes in that movie theater
Same! Since I was a kid I've watched all the godzilla movies....when this came out on KOTM when Godzilla came from under the ocean and this came on..i got goosebumps and teared up a little...😢
These themes take me back 5 years ago when I come home from school and binge watch all the heisei Godzilla movies every night
I love the music used in the Godzilla movies. They have menacing power, dread, and yet something heroic/of magnitude.
Also really cool illustration of the monsters involved in this video
And now, with Minus One, we have another (3 versions) of the amazing theme.

1:53 theres something in this part that gaves me chills
Godzilla has one of the most iconic themes in movie history, So when I went to see KOTM, imagen my surprise and utter glee when I heard a familiar tune play as Godzilla was rising up from the water. Long. Live. The King!
One of the most classic themes in history!
He is our king
We are his pets
He is our savior
In godzilla we trust
The Final wars theme actually used to be my least favorite rendition of the classic theme, but over the years, I've actually come to really like it.
While I enjoy the background changes with each new theme, I'm glad to see you included the posters as well. The Heisei series posters are some of the greatest of all time. In my opinion.
Can't wait for a re-upload with the new ones.
I can listen to this all day
Just got back from Godzilla Minus one. Fucking iconic theme
Got giddy every time that theme played
Monsterverse: MCU, you’re next.
I should be making this comment on my other account, but damn this comment was short but cool.
remenber that godzilla himself have made a 1vs 50 with the MCU earth heroes and eaven dwarfen thor in raw streingth
this actually happened in a comic back when marvel owned the rights to Godzilla
Toho built Godzilla. I think it’s toho
Avengers theme is epic too though... i like kotm theme and avengers
"The key to coexistence
"The nuclear death"
"The king of the monsters"
"Gojira."

KotM was a fantastic movie, I don't care if that's an unpopular opinion. It was definitely the best Monsterverse movie by far.
When I was a Kid and this theme came on I’d pretend I was Godzilla getting up from the ground to Decimate the Kaiju
The heisei hadsome of the best cover art and with Rodan on the cover of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla makes me feel even worse when he dies for Godzilla to comtinue to fight to save his son
I was left sobbing watching kotm they literally added the music that I live for is a kid and make it a masterpiece
Up to this point I've seen 25 of these films mostly through VHS and etc. Nothing can top this
This was the first godzilla movie I watched
4 dislikes were from King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla , Biollante and Destroyah
7 now, space Godzilla gigan and hedorah
oh boy
9 so destroyah smaller form and... megalon
11 now, King Kong and MUTO Prime
12 know so monster X
My god.. listening through all of them... all the memories... feel like they have been gathering up to the 2019 one.... Awesome experience to listen to this evolution... and at the end i feel we get THE best version of them all... the moment it started i got such huge goose bumps.... Truly Legendary Piece of art this is :) Long Live The King!...
The best version was the end credits in Godzilla vs destoroyah, 2019 is like 6th or 5th place
"Now how iconic do you want this song to be" "yes"
Loved the use of Ifukube's themes in Minus One
I love how the background changes when it changes to other movies
R.I.P. Akira Ifukube you will be remembered for your godly work on these movies' scores
I love the parallelism between the first songs that sound threatening and the one from kotm that sounds heroic
Man, I can't get over how epic Godzilla's theme is.
It's powerful, moving, and just so darn cool!
Long live the king!
Shin Godzilla:where my theme?
Mothra:my theme!
Rodan:yummy yummy cookies baking in an oven and ima keep singing until there ready! -ding-
This theme still gives me shivers.
