Family taste-test of Sun Dragon citrus

Sun Dragon is a recently-released citrus from Florida, notable there for its tolerance to HLB, or Citrus Greening, a fatal bacterial disease that has decimated the Florida citrus industry. For growers of cold-hardy citrus, Sun Dragon holds some promise of being cold-hardy, as it is 1/8 Trifoliate orange. Here, three of my children taste-test Sun Dragon.

It’s a winner. It’s also being used for some additional breeding (for HLB tolerance) for some amazing new releases.

I know researchers in FL are doing lots of work crossing it to other things in the hopes of getting an HLB-tolerant “orange.”
