Minimalism, to me, means "identify what's important and makes you happy and get rid of the rest of the things" - Keeping vinyls and books that you love can still be minimalistic.
André Bryder Actually I think it is a bit waste of wallspace not to have. If you are not that ultra type living in a backpack and traveling the world. But then it is not soo much minimalism any moore.
André Bryder Many people have books to show there identity. Before the WWW they actually matterd moore. Today I seldom read them. I had somthing like 180 books in my woorkroom I got rid of 25 today, it is hard. It is very hard even tough I get the point in not keeping them. Then I probably have hundreds moore in my storage.
Minimal Millennials I try. I have absolutely cleaned out my life from even 2 or 3 months ago. it's on going. Still I have a ways to go. But I'm down to a studio apartment. I just think it's so liberating to not own things I don't need. Books were super hard for me.
I sold a bunch to a used book store . I also sold a few of the full collections on kijiji and then kept about 25 that I just really couldn't part with ... I was moving from Montreal to Edmonton ( cross-country in Canada) so that helped in motivation to downsize. I don't reread though so facing some harsh truth with myself & why I was keeping things made it easier. I think that minimalism means different things to different people. I don't own a TV so books are kind of my thing. Honestly though- it was a process of getting rid of some then a cpl weeks later getting rid of some more. Are you thinking of downsizing more?
I got rid of a lot of books that I've outgrown. Gave them to random homeless people, left some on the bus stop, in the bus, inside the train, to some uber drivers. Love that feeling. And yes. I'm a minimalist, but I love things. Everything is perceptual.
Love it, although you're in the van now......so moot point. My fiance and I have a smaller apartment, but with more stuff. Very inspirational channel, If you're ever in NYC/LI area we would love to buy you guys some coffee and hang.
finally a minimalist couple who has records. collecting records is something that always makes me happy, but also the same time putting that needle on. picking a good record should not just be a waste of money, but also picking one for a reason that means something to you and also it's you at ease in life. clearing your mind from stress is good, but at the same time putting something into your head to calm you is better
It's an amazing space isn't it! That dude is just negative and doesn't have anything better to do with his life than hate on people who are more successful than him.
I love your style. I like that you keep those books and records and things that bring you joy. And the shelf/display for them is so nice too. Yall're definitely on my goals and inspiration list.
Books and vinyls are the hardest thing for me to part with...however i did recently part with probably over 50 books that have been sitting on my shelves for YEARS (purchases made when I was in high school, but had no interest in reading them for the last 15 years). Great tour!
Aww thank you!! We actually filmed that the other day and thought it came out weird lol. Maybe we'll refilm it, good to know someone would like to see it ;)
The reading corner looks lovely! I love those book shelves that you guys have on either side of the room. I was so glad to see that record player. They add such a lot to the whole music listening experience. The DIY desk was also beautifully done. The only thing I'd like to add is an artwork or something to the wall above your couch Love your apartment
Thank you so much! That's definitely our goal. Minimalism can work for anyone no matter how much stuff they have. People don't have to own only 24 things to reap the benefits of the minimalist mindset - we sure don't!
I just found your channel. When you said that you cried while listening to Carrie and Lowell, I about screamed because I did the very same thing yesterday! Love your apartment! I wish mine was as minimalist as yours but, with two kids, it's hard to stem the tide of clutter. Definitely an inspiration though.
Minimal Millennials They are 2 and 5. It's 4 of us in a 1 bedroom apartment. With so little space, it kinda forces us to be minimalist, but I wouldn't have it any other way. :-)
love everything! i was scrolling through my feed and your video came up. i thought your bookcase looked similar to ours especially with the plants and all
*so glad I found you guys, I love this video and the apartment is gorgeous! But to find other believers that are into simple living is awesome! my aspirations* :)
Love the apartment. It has a nice balanced look to it. Just right. Books are one of my biggest issue. I have WAY too many but am trying to whittle the number down.
Really enjoy this. Love all the natural elements and tones - have been on the hunt for wooden bookcases/shelves like the ones you have. Haven't been able to find any around me!
+TiraPups Thank you so much! We got our bookshelves from Overstock actually - if you want to see the exact ones, here's the link: www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/5-shelf-Ladder-Bookcase/11002521/product.html
I appreciate your tour and letting us in on your life. And I'm really bummed you didn't do a longer video take panning the entire apartment. It's really, really hard to get a sense of where everything is in relation to everything else. Also what city or town is this apartment located in?
Hey. I just discovered your channel. Searching for apartment ideas since I'm moving to a new apartment. =) I'm also a minimalist and a zero waster. Thank you! Cheers!
+NemoRosa700 We were actually joking haha. We do actually have a bathroom complete with a toilet and shower, just didn't know how to make that interesting in this video ;)
Thank you! We got them from Overstock actually. Here's the link: www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/5-shelf-Ladder-Bookcase/11002521/product.html?recset=98845021-6c66-4c39-87e6-b714534ee478&refccid=RCQGAAREYNYJJXKMXG6TQAWGGQ&searchidx=5&recalg=63&recidx=5
I know you guys don't live in an apartment anymore, but where did you keep your paper-clutter-office supplies type stuff? papers, notes, cards, pens, highlighters, sharpies, scissors, glue, envelopes, stamps, notebooks, email, etc? That is my biggest source of clutter. And where do you keep them now you're in a van?
Hey! I love your apartment, it's so bright and clear, you must feel very peacefull in this place. :) Where do your backpacks come from? They look good.
It's an elfa actually! Something like this: www.amazon.com/The-Container-Store-Mesh-Start-A-Stack/dp/B004T2T4PW/ref=sr_1_1?s=storageorganization&ie=UTF8&qid=1496113881&sr=1-1&keywords=elfa
+Amber Leinhos Honestly, we're probably not the best people to ask, a lot of other people very intentionally and skillfully design living spaces much better than we know how. But the rule of thumb we go by is being comfortable with empty spaces and trying to create balance by equally filling all of our spaces. Normally, I've seen minimalists decorate with much more neutral colors, so that could be an easy rule of thumb to follow as well. All that to say, I don't think there are specific rules for minimalist decor, it's really anything that you like and really enjoy, and making sure you leave out the things you don't fully enjoy. Does that make sense?
Hi! Do you by chance remember where you bought that storage uniting for your non-hanging clothes? Looking to do the same in my room as my dresser right now is so large and bulky and I only use about half of it. Thank you!
Just found your channel, loving it! :D and we totally have the same taste in both books and music. We even have the same record player! Twins. Much love :)
This is really nice to see. I'm wanting to do a minimalist hybrid thing with my own life (As I am a huge videogaming nerd with nick-nacks and what not. Not too much, but enough) and it's inspiring to see this! Makes me want to get rid of all my stuff! XD
Thank you! We bought them at a lot of places. Most of them were in San Antonio at our favorite record stores. Love your guyss apartment. It's amazing :) Very inspirational. I wish I could have a minimal apartment however it came furnished so we cannot really get rid of things. You guys seem to be the type of people I'd love to know in person. Hopefully we can at least become youtube friends? :)
+MyVeganExperiment Um YES, let's totally be RUclips friends. Your channel looks suuuper interesting, totally going to check your stuff out! Thank you so much! Yeah that's tough when it's fully furnished already. We had nothing when we moved in so we were partly minimalist because our wallet said we had to be haha. But we really do love the space having less in here provides us. Thanks for commenting!!
Are you from Portland? You seem like Portlanders. Too many books, plants, tchotchkes, and shoes for my minimalist sensibilities, but whatever works for you. 👍🏻

I dig it. Minimalism doesn't mean get rid of everything. Books are life.
+Carol Noël Absolutely! Are you a minimalist?
Minimal Millennials I try. I have absolutely cleaned out my life from even 2 or 3 months ago. it's on going. Still I have a ways to go. But I'm down to a studio apartment. I just think it's so liberating to not own things I don't need. Books were super hard for me.
+Carol Noël Nice! We love our studio. What did you end up doing with your books? Do you still have them?
I sold a bunch to a used book store . I also sold a few of the full collections on kijiji and then kept about 25 that I just really couldn't part with ... We recently redecorated our apartment and wanted to show you around! What do you think?
You don't have a tv?
+Juli Pisano nope, we don't have a TV. If we ever want to watch TV, we watch Netflix on our laptops.
you can totally use your white wall for some awesome quality projector screen!
Minimal Millennials The well community Church....noicceeeee
Love it, although you're in the van now......so moot point. My fiance and I have a smaller apartment, but with more stuff. Very inspirational channel, If you're ever in NYC/LI area we would love to buy you guys some coffee and hang.
I love minimalist homes that still have personality (a few books and albums that are special)
Thank you!
Check mine out! That describes my place too :)
This is my kinda minimalism. I love to see a well loved and used collection. We all have a passion.
This looks like the natural habitat of an artistic, intellectual minimalist, and I adore it to the core

I love the approach. Not snobby or excessively pared down, very tasteful. Just the necessities, done cheaply too!
Legit screaming over how much I love your living space. LOVEEEE minimal living. Beautiful
calm down, its just a commercial.
armand tamzarian jeez what crawled up your butt. If you don't like my comment don't comment back. Dummy
congrats on not following your own advice.
It's an amazing space isn't it! That dude is just negative and doesn't have anything better to do with his life than hate on people who are more successful than him.
Thank you, Nadia!
I love your style. I like that you keep those books and records and things that bring you joy. And the shelf/display for them is so nice too. Yall're definitely on my goals and inspiration list.
Thank you so much!
Beautiful apartment! As a book lover, I appreciate the finely honed collection, and I love all the plants!
Books and vinyls are the hardest thing for me to part with...however i did recently part with probably over 50 books that have been sitting on my shelves for YEARS (purchases made when I was in high school, but had no interest in reading them for the last 15 years). Great tour!
Thank you!! Books and vinyls are pretty hard for Christian as well haha. We feel your pain!
Love it! You have created a very cozy personal space, but also functional and easy to live in. Congratulations!!
+Marta Martrix thank you!!💛
Random Q: Will you tell us your love story? I'm hoping to meet more likeminded people. Your connection is inspiring.
Aww thank you!! We actually filmed that the other day and thought it came out weird lol. Maybe we'll refilm it, good to know someone would like to see it ;)
Yehhhhz! Thank you in advance.
From all room tours I have seen, your apartment is one of my favorites!
Love seeing your old videos. Did you guys bring Setters of Catan with you in the van?
Nah man we left that home with the fam
Love the wooden dishes. When I have my own place, I definitely would think of getting them.
Love your records and your happy little space. I think you have all that you need, each other! :) God bless.
So true!
definitely loved how simplistic and straightforward this video was :-) thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Yes, Sufjan!
woot woot!!
The reading corner looks lovely! I love those book shelves that you guys have on either side of the room. I was so glad to see that record player. They add such a lot to the whole music listening experience.
The DIY desk was also beautifully done. The only thing I'd like to add is an artwork or something to the wall above your couch
Love your apartment
I loved your apartment! An your approach to minimalism :) Very realistic for most to attain. Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you so much! That's definitely our goal. Minimalism can work for anyone no matter how much stuff they have. People don't have to own only 24 things to reap the benefits of the minimalist mindset - we sure don't!
I think your apartment is beautiful! I especially like the bookshelf/reading area! Will try to make smth similar for my place as well. ^^
Thank you! We love it too :)
You guys have the best minimalist life video I've seen bar-none. Thanks for sharing I am inspired.
I love that reading area and the book shelf! Having some books in the house is necessary for me, it's LIFE
Thank you! We love it too.
+sealions100 Dude for real though, we cry every time. It's so beautiful!
Thank you so much!! Totally makes sense about kids haha, how old are they?
Minimal Millennials They are 2 and 5. It's 4 of us in a 1 bedroom apartment. With so little space, it kinda forces us to be minimalist, but I wouldn't have it any other way. :-)
Oh wow so cool! When did you decide to live more minimal?
love everything! i was scrolling through my feed and your video came up. i thought your bookcase looked similar to ours especially with the plants and all
Thank you!
Take your desk and put it in front windows ...dream and dream again ! Thanks for the video
*so glad I found you guys, I love this video and the apartment is gorgeous! But to find other believers that are into simple living is awesome! my aspirations* :)
idk why but this video is always so calming and i love how it’s filmed ahh! ❤️
Love the apartment. It has a nice balanced look to it. Just right. Books are one of my biggest issue. I have WAY too many but am trying to whittle the number down.

where did you get your bookcase that’s next to your coffee station? It’s so beautifully crafted!
Love it. Fill your apartment with what brings you joy, not what society tells you SHOULD bring you joy.
I appreciate your tour and letting us in on your life. And I'm really bummed you didn't do a longer video take panning the entire apartment. It's really, really hard to get a sense of where everything is in relation to everything else. Also what city or town is this apartment located in?
It’s crazy to see this after seeing your new videos in the van!!!
Great inspiration there;first time watching a minimalist video and I'm inspired to be a minimalist, thanks!!
Wow, thank you!
This is great, thanks for letting us into your home.
Thank you!!
While having physical collection are nice, you can push the minimalism by going digital with a lot of things.
i don't think you know what minimalism is.
Hey. I just discovered your channel. Searching for apartment ideas since I'm moving to a new apartment. =) I'm also a minimalist and a zero waster. Thank you! Cheers!
Was that a To Pimp a Butterfly vinyl I saw? Also Carrie & Lowell is an awesome album. Don't feel bad at all for having great music like that.
where did you get your backpacks from? i would love to invest in one that'll keep for at least 10 years,..none of the new ones seem to be the kind
Where are your book shelves from? LOVE THEM!!!!
Didn't get to see the dang toilet 😕.
We don't have a toilet...
but where do you go to the toilet then? or take shower??
+NemoRosa700 We were actually joking haha. We do actually have a bathroom complete with a toilet and shower, just didn't know how to make that interesting in this video ;)
Minimal Millennials lol
I like your apartment a lot. Just one small suggestion. Wooden hangers will be better for your closet.
love your guys' space and how genuine you are! great video :)
+Kelsey Leslie thank you!! 😊
Tweed coffee!!! I love tweed coffee! It’s the best to dial in on espresso.
Love your space! Where is your book shelf from?!

Where did you find the bookshelf? I’ve been searching for one of those forever!!
Love your apartment. Can you share more about what minimalist decor is and is not?

I think it was The War on Drugs, Lost in the Dream.
nice vid! ♥ love your old camera!
+Simple Victoria thank you!
Hi! Do you by chance remember where you bought that storage uniting for your non-hanging clothes? Looking to do the same in my room as my dresser right now is so large and bulky and I only use about half of it. Thank you!
Sufjan Stevens. Mass respect my dudes. Apartment is beautiful
Just found your channel, loving it! :D and we totally have the same taste in both books and music. We even have the same record player! Twins. Much love :)

+Thatch&Mortar thank you!!

+Annie S Thank you so much!
Just wondering how you found such a big studio apartment that ALSO has a washer and dryer!? Very jealous.
This is really nice to see. I'm wanting to do a minimalist hybrid thing with my own life (As I am a huge videogaming nerd with nick-nacks and what not. Not too much, but enough) and it's inspiring to see this! Makes me want to get rid of all my stuff! XD
Loved..makes me wanna try minimalism
Thank you!!
Where'd u buy ur records? Thanks love ur apartment
Thank you! We bought them at a lot of places. Most of them were in San Antonio at our favorite record stores. L. Ron Hubbard books noticed! :) Cool shelf!
Yes, I think you are both pretty.
Wonderful space!!
Thank you!!
You inspire me !
What is the song you were playing on guitar? I can't quite figure it out but I'm pretty sure its from the Lumineers.

Love the sofa
Thank you!
Where is your sofa from? It seems very comfy
It is super comfy! We got it on Overstock, here's the link: www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Abbyson-Bradley-Mid-Century-Style-Ivory-Sofa/9962836/product.html
This is soo funny looking back because I know how wild you guys lol love u guysss
Minimalist is basically being tidy and clean.
So cool video!
Love it! It's like a deluxe studio.
+Jessica Watson thank you!!
I think ones should use the walls.
A lot of traveling seems a bit anti-minimalistic to me.
I liked the apartment.
Can someone tell me where that book/record shelf was from? It is amazing!
Should specify ~ the one in the very beginning
Your kitchen is exactly the same as my kitchen!
+Pink Elephant So cool!!!
Thanks for commenting!!
also have the whole minimalist wallet situation going on. I know the pain! It looks awesome. definitely goals for future apartments :)
I would really love to know where you got your standing shelves from
It’s cool - love it👍✌️
Your backpacks- which are those? look interesting, I like roll tops
Here you go! amzn.to/2hyxLL4
Very simple I love it
do you guys not have winter weather where you live? i didnt see any jackets
You guys are so cute. Just a tip your pics should be at eye level (average between yourselves.) Your apartment is charming just like you are.
Great apartmentt, I live in Spokane are you guys from the northwest too ?
So cool! I (Aubry) spent Jr. High and High School in Spokane and my family lives there still so we visit quite a bit. But Christian is from Austin.
Love your channel! Random Question: how old are you guys actually?
frickin boss vinyl collection
Thankssss ;)
I was missing the bathroom! Otherwise, very nice place! :)
Yeah we couldn't figure out the best way to show the bathroom lol...
Amazing!
Do you have a link for the shop you got the moon phase posters?
Are you from Portland? You seem like Portlanders. Too many books, plants, tchotchkes, and shoes for my minimalist sensibilities, but whatever works for you. 👍🏻
Didn't know what a tchotchke was before that comment, but more power to you dude. I'm from Austin, Aubry's from LA. Go check out what we are up to now in our van - no more tchotchkes ;)
trying to change my lifestyle to this
