  • Want to learn how to play Guile but don't know where to start? Confused by all the combo videos and waffle? Don't know how to SONIC BOOM good? Well this is the tutorial for you!
In this tutorial I will cover what I believe are Guile's core combos before going on to learn to trickier hit-confirm and link combos, it is by no means an exhaustive list, the idea is to find the simplest most effective combos. I also cover a primer for Intermediate Combos, jump-ins, punishing and anti-airs!
    CHARGING
To play Guile effectively you need to put yourself in the mindset of always charging when you're not moving forward. Charging 101 is to hold down-back to charge both Sonic Boom and Flash Kick (Somersault) at the same time :) Use jumping, attack recovery and even dashing to hide charge :)
    V-SKILLS & V-TRIGGERS
Both V-Skills and V-Triggers are viable for beginners, just depends on your play style. If you like to sit back and zone out your opponent then I'd suggest VS1 & VS2, if you're a more aggressive player use VS2 & VT2. VS2 allows for mid-screen punishes that doesn't require you to already have charge. VT2 adds to combo damage if you have a bit of meter to spare, VT2 Flash Kick does same damage as regular Flash Kick so bit of a waste of V-meter using it by itself, I'd recommend always using EX otherwise potentially saving V-meter for when you have EX. VT1 is really good for zoning but not great for combos, it's a bit more technical. Whiffing a b+LK to land the super is actually pretty easy, just practice a little :) Also using super in VT1 completely drains V-meter so use as many Sonic Breaks as possible before super, FYI you can't use super if a Boom or Break is on the screen so you have to time it with the last Break hitting your opponent. VT2 is a 2-bar over VT1 being 3-bar so you get it quicker too :)
Guile is the only character to have a "Charge Super", not sure if that makes super cancels easier or harder xD They've given him target combos that help out beginners. He's an odd character as he can't special cancel any heavy attack, df+HK is slow making it hard to combo from a jump and his s.HP link combo is probably the trickest "standard" link combo in the game and also unsafe on block! He has no way of hit-confirming (safely) into Flash Kick, only Sonic Boom and then you need a charge (from jump probably). You can punish most things with medium attacks but there is the odd thing you can only punish with a fast (light) attack (e.g. Balrog's Dash Punch). Oh and EX Flash Kick only does 20 more damage so don't bother using in combos unless in VT2 :)
Any questions about the video, combos, character, game, etc. ask me in the comments and I'll do my best to answer :)
Who do you want to see a Beginner Combos tutorial for next? Haven't heard any news about Oro but thinking probably be this month so he may be next :)
I'm trying out new render settings so hopefully the video looks better :)

Will be getting a hitbox soon, been playing on stick and have always used shoto characters. I plan on learning Guile while I learn hitbox. This video is perfect 👍🏻

Been playing Street fighter since SF2 came out and I cant combo and just rely on my opponents to make mistake after mistake. Anyway I came back after so long to try again and these combos are great! From 2 links to dizzyingly long links. Hopefully il be able to do all of these in a real match. Thank you!

I remember I had SF2 Turbo on PC and I would consider it an achievement if I could pull off a super move! xD
They've certainly made combos easier now but remember combos are only a small part of the game! :)

One thing that's really important with guile is to remember exactly where you need to cancel into flash/boom. For example the stand neutral heavy punch into crouching medium punch cancel into boom/flash has really tight timing and you need to kind of cancel the medium punch a bit late.

Yeah I had SF2 on the Genesis and played at the arcade. I could beat a lot of people with Guile and the computer on 8 stars but ONLY by punishing mistakes, I also did slow sonic boom follow it and then throw when they blocked, which people fucking hated, lol. I never could combo though. Best combo I could ever do was jump attack lp flash kick. Im working on these at middle age, def slower now and Im starting to be able to pull them off.

Hi nice video just wanna ask how can I charge my CA after Sonic Boom? Is it okay if I use ps4 controller?

    • @sugami82
      @sugami82  2 года назад +1

The trick is you hiding the sonic boom input in the super input, i.e. you're using the same charge for the sonic boom that you are for super, have a look at the inputs I've written on the combos :) Regarding controllers, there are a few pros who use pad, you use whatever you are most comfortable with :)

So you can combo crouching medium kick into a special. That makes Guild very very dangerous

Thanks for putting this up, nice to see some combos I can actually pull off instead of the 15 hit insane stuff. I have a question, I cant do Guile Challenge 4 and 5, one requires a F+HP then sonic boom, other is the standing high HK plus flash kick and I dont get how its possible with so little charge time. I have no problem with jump HK+crouch LP+flashkick because I can charge in the air while 2 moves go off but I don't get how Forward+HP then sonic boom is possible.

Glad you found it useful :) A lot of the trial combos aren't useful but just to be tricky challenges. I can't remember the trials, I'll have to look them up again.

    • @sugami82

So #4 is about hitting high enough for the juggle to work. #5 is a crush counter with ex boom, you just need to hold back IMMEDIATELY after pushing forward for the f+HP. Use the demonstrations to help if you aren't already :)

@@sugami82 Thanks, Ive been working on it, I got a few more of the challenges done. Takes me a lot of time I think Im a lot slower than I used to be, plus Im 95% a PC gamer so I normally use mouse and keyboard, only use an Xbox controller for this and Dark Souls/Elden Ring. Luckily I played SF2 a lot when i was a kid in the 90s so some of it comes back to me.

@@sugami82 I always have the urge to learn charge char since 3rd strike and every time it didn’t take long for me to go back to main shoto lmao. Dropping more than 50% of charge combos were not a fun time.
Didn’t know that SF6 has an easy combo system like DBZF, gonna be interesting.
