Just a tip! Those throw ins from the opponent are very high and it takes time before it comes in to your box. Go for these balls! The goalkeeper is the boss.
If they are able to be taken, then I will come and take them, but I also have to take into account where defenders/attackers are etc, and the risk vs reward! So each individual scenario is different! But in general, I agree
I know how you feel Connor I was starting keeper at my old club....they bought in a new keeper and found myself on the bench for the vast majority of the season. I played the last 5 games and played amazing clean sheets big saves. New season comes along they bring in a younger keeper only started 3 games and came off the bench for the last 2 games....found a keeper coach new club started again and I'm playing every week playing great It's about believing in yourself and trusting yourself and your abilities
Sorry to hear that mate. I hope this video gives you some help with your situation too. Keep working mate, keep improving, and you'll get your spot back
Very nice video . I'm not an aspiring goalkeeper nor athlete. However, your, message did hit a chord . I totally understand the insecurity and confusion that goes through your mind , when some one second guesses your skill and abilities. However, your message of self improvement is really applicable to any sphere of life and in any field. Kudos, keep making such amazing videos
Hi Connor. You’ve really pushed me end I’m not sure if you remember but I recall commenting one of my worst genes ever. Ever since I’ve improved soo much and continue to work. I recently now have been playing against pro academics and I front of coaches . Thank you 👏🏾
That's great news mate, well done! Keep going, and keep working. Now you know that when the next difficult stage hits, you'll be able to get through it!
I think this is a great video, very honest and useful for others is similar position. I do have a performance related query though and please dont take this as a criticism it isnt meant to be. In all the highlights you seem to stay back on your line, for long throws/crosses etc you dont really seem to come through crowds to collect/punch - is this a conscious decision? Is it something you do as a smaller goalkeeper? Again I'm not passing judgement or trying to slag off I'm just curious if that's a decision you have made to stay mainly to your line. Maybe you do do this stuff and just edit it out the highlights. Would be interested to hear your thoughts.
Thanks mate! Great question. Depending on the game scenario, I'll change what I do. I have the ability to do both, so depending on the location of the cross/defenders/attackers, I'll decide whether I stay or go. It might be that this game I stayed more, whilst others I went and collected more. I make my decision based on each individual situation, so that I have the best chance of making the right decision.
@@ConorOKeefe That's a brilliant choice bro!Degree is one thing, but ppl needs to keep learning and arm themselves with knowledge, just like we keepers needs to master passing skills XD I'm a teacher and I always tell my students to never forget learning,it's not about academic performance it's about learning the ways of thinking and making choices. I'm proud to see three of my students made it to the district team, one of them is a young gk,he even wanted some more catching practise with me everyday after school,I miss them so during this school lock down. oh yes we watch your videos bro,I never had a chance to properly learn football as kid and I wish I can send this kid to an U-13 team in our Hongkong Premier League here. Cheers!
Oh I thought you were going to be the starting keeper, when you moved you said I want to be able to play at the top of the Gibraltar and test my self! Shame your not starting but I’m sure you will become number 1 soon!
We've played 4 games each since I joined! So not getting all the games, but still playing. Hopefully I can play a few more before the end of the season
It need times as we(the goalkeepers) transfered/changed to new team in the middle of the season to blend well. Keep up the good work, friend! Maybe you need to be more vocal on the field so that you teammates know your presence in the team as their new postskeeper. It works for me sometimes haha. Just my one cent experience playing amateur. And I miss your game actions!
Hi Conor i played a friendly game today and we lost 8-0. But when they scored about 5 my mind automaticly started to give up. Do you have more tips how to communicate with your teammates/defenders better?
It's hard in games like that. You have to forget the score, and challenge yourself each time to keep them out. Then, analyse the game fully afterwards. With communicating, you just have to say what you see, and continually instruct. Don't worry about annoying people, as it will help to keep the ball away from your goal!
Your always positive and rightly so you have lots to be positive about and you will look back at sitting on the bench when your walking out with champions league music playing as a motivation! My question for you is where do you think you rank in world football now?? Eg do you think your ready for english league football right now??
Thanks Mark. I'd back myself to play at any level, but I have a few more years of progression to go before playing week in week out in the football league
Reviewing the goals you conceded I have a small advice for you! Attack towards the ball and don't try to protect your goal !!! PS. This advice came from a "fatty is always the keeper"
My school's team didn't even pick me because the second keeper's dad is an important person, and the first he played better than me for 9 matches so they picked him but now I'm better than him but still nothing changed!!!!
Hey Conor I have a question regarding lifestyle and the league itself Can you speak Spanish or have you not had to learn because Gibraltar is part of the uk? What percentage of the players u have played at magpies and fc point have been Spanish/English or perhaps from surround European countries??? Would be really interested as to your answer
Hi Tom, yes, I had learnt how to speak Spanish during my time playing in Madrid two years ago. There are a mix of players, in our club now it's probably 1/3rd Gibraltarian, 1/3rd Spanish and 1/3rd European/Rest of the world. It helps being able to speak both Spanish and English, as there are groups of players who can only speak on or the other & not both
Also what other countries and leagues would you love to play in and have you thought about your playing career in regards to potentially leaving Gibraltar?
Of course! This time of year, players are always thinking about what's next. I've always wanted to play in different European countries, and even further afield. So we'll see what happens!
Conor O'Keefe thank you for your answers Conor! I love your videos and so glad to see you’re absolutely smashing it and well on your way to reaching the top!!
Great to see the highs & lows #keepingitreal 👍🏼

Hi Conor, great video but I was wondering if in the future you could break down saving 1 on 1's pls? Thx

Wow you are spending time on the bench, I am struggling for form right now. What is going on, why has it all gone wrong? 😅
Don't worry, these things happen! Keep working, and they'll turn again
Currently 3rd choice... going to work hard to get that first choice soon
Good man! Keep working!

Could we perhaps get an idea of the wages by the professional football club?

Can you pls take us through your complete plyometric routine in some video.thanks
Yes, one day!
First game I seen from that league
Conor could you do a vid on your weekly routine
Watch last week's vlog, hopefully that will help!

Maybe speak to the manager! Ask them in a professional way what they think you need to improve so that you can get in the team
You really make me want to get back in net.
Go for it!
