It may already be the day after Christmas (or "Boxing Day" in Commonwealth territories) in Europe by the time this is released, but it seems to fitting to provide this entry on this day, because of how much of the color green is present in this coveted set: With its status as the 22nd and final constraction-scale Bionicle set released in 2007, Karzahni holds great significance-not only in the story, but in physical set form as well. It is frequently contested as one of the rarest Bionicle sets of the entire theme-owed to it being a Toys R Us-exclusive in North America (though it technically wasn’t such in other markets), but also because of its rather short shelf life of only around four months after its August 2007 release. At the time, I remember being divisively envious of someone I was friends with who had received this set, along with Hydraxon (8923) for his 10th birthday on August 4 of that year, though this would be mostly forgotten by the middle of that October. Upon its release, Karzahni was the first Bionicle set to have three or more models contained within it, and was also the largest constraction-scale Bionicle set in terms of part count since the Bahrag Queens (8558) from back in 2002 (Even though the Muaka and Kane-Ra (8538) from the year before are listed as containing fourteen unused Technic rubber bands increasing the displayed part count on the front of the box)). Even if Karzahni’s part count (373) is still nowhere near the number of parts (636) the Bahrag (8558) had. Despite being the first standalone non minifigure-scale Bionicle set since then to even exceed 350 pieces. Though this set has fewer parts than the Tarakava (8549), Muaka and Kane-Ra (8538) and the Manas (8539) from 2001, it was actually the first constraction-scale Bionicle set to have its parts divided over five numbered bags or more. Contained within the first bag, we start with Sarda and Idris-who are two Mahri Nui Matoran who have undergone mutations, hence their slight assymytry. Sarda is a Ta-Matoran and marks the final appearance of the great Kanohi Huna introduced with the Toa Metru form of Vakama (8601) in 2004. In conjunction, he is also the final set to include the Toa Mata style of arms (Voodoo arms) in Metru red introduced with Vahki Nuurakh (8614), and also marks the final appearance of the spiked Inika feet in that color which were introduced with Jaller Inika (8727). Sarda’s legs also contain Bohrok limbs recolored in Metru red, which are a similar story to the Metru green (earth green) ones found in Defilak (8929) in how they were new to Bionicle, but weren’t new parts overall. As they technically debuted as part of the “Nidhogg Dragon” in a set (7015) from the short-lived “Vikings” theme from 2005. Sarda’s arms are supported by a Visorak double socket joint in dark stone gray, making its tenth and final appearance here, having also been introduced in 2005 as part of Roodaka (8761) and the Voporak combiner “set” (10203) she was a part of. Idris is a Ga-Matoran who features a Great Kanohi Ruru from the Toa Metru form of Whenua (8603) recolored in Metru blue (earth blue), as the only one of the Toa Metru masks to be recolored at all. As both Matoran were also the last appearances of any of the Metru masks in themselves, though they actually weren’t the last masks to appear in multiple colors in the theme. Idris features Bohrok limbs in Metru blue which first appeared as part of the “Armored Ofnir Dragon” in the final set (7021) from the “Vikings” theme in 2006. And just like the Metru red and Metru green ones on Sarda and Defilak (8929), the sets these parts originated from in these colors weren’t as widely distributed in North America as in other markets, made even more so with how the “Vikings” theme was originally intended as a “one-off theme” with only a single wave of sets. With the theme’s final sets (7020 and 7021) being released nearly a full year later. Idris is also the final set to have socket joints in transparent fluorescent blue introduced with Matoro’s Inika form (8732) from 2006, and is the second of three sets to have the rounded Inika feet in Metru blue, with their third (and final) appearance also being in a retail-exclusive set. Idris also has “Voodoo arms” in black, which also appeared in a concurrent “Mars Mission” set (7699) and were the last origin color of this part remaining after this. If only for one more set in it, and one final set in Dark stone gray in 2010 before being phased out completely. Both Matoran jointly mark the final appearance of the Hordika style of chest armor and of the Bohrok limbs all together, as they are also the final Matoran associated with Fire and Water to be released in set form. The parts comprising Karzahni himself are spread out between the second, third and fourth bags. Contained in the second bag are the parts comprising his torso, which marks the final appearance of the Toa Metru style of double socket joints in Metru green introduced in 2004 with Nidhiki (8622) and the “Ultimate Dume” combiner “set” (10202) he was a part of. Karzahni was also the largest set to have the Toa Metru pelvis piece in black, even though it would appear in that color across nine other sets throughout the remainder of the theme. This is also the third and final set to have the twin knives from Takadox (8916), and the largest to have the Piraka torso in silver. It also contains minifigure helmet spikes in lime green and is the first set to have the Technic 19M “flex rods” in Mata red. Which also came in a concurrent Bionicle minifigure-scale set (8927) that I received as a Christmas gift in 2007. The third bag contains the parts of Karzahni’s legs, which contain set-exclusive recolors of the mutated Kanohi Huna from Vakama Hordika (8736) and the feet from Mantax (8919) in Metru green, and mark the third and final appearance of the Piraka lower legs in that color as well. They also mark the final appearance of the Technic rubberized socket joints in black introduced with Nivawk (part of 8621) from 2004, and this part's last appearance all together. The fourth bag contains the parts of Karzahni’s arms, his head and the elements which attach the tattered cloth cape to his torso. His hands are composed of the head element from Ehlek (8920) with the “Dinosaur tail tip” in Metru green, which debuted as part of the “Midgard Serpent” in yet another “Vikings” set (7018) from 2005. Which would make another appearance in 2008 in a set (7048) from the “Fantasy era” of Castle (2007-09). This was the last appearance of this part in Metru green for seven years before appearing in an Ideas set (21301) in 2015, and making its fifth and most recent appearance in 2024 as part of the Icons Chrysanthemum (10368). As with his torso, Karzahni’s arms feature the armor introduced with Carapar (8918) and Mantax (8919) recolored in a melding of Metru green and lime green, and are the largest set to have the Metru green Rahkshi legs introduced with Nidhiki (8622). As they are also the last appearance of the hand sockets in Metru green, and the Visorak double socket joints in black. His arms also feature two constraction-scale chains each with ten segments, as the largest set to have this part in itself, and mark the final appearance of the Squid Launcher. Karzahni’s head and “Kanohi Olisi” are comprised of two of the style of foot introduced with Pridak (8921) recolored in Metru green, which also have the “Dinosaur tail tip” element in silver, which first appeared in two minifigure-scale Bionicle sets (8892 and 8894) and one of the previously mentioned “Vikings” sets (7021) from 2006. Karzahni features the tattered cloth cape introduced with Vezon (in 8764) as its final appearance, though he wasn’t the last Lego set to use cloth in itself. The cape is also attached to the torso with two of the “Vacuum Shields” in gunmetal as this part’s final appearance overall. The set's fifth and final bag contains the parts which comprise Sarda and Idris' "Underwater Trap" which comprises just over a quarter of the set's parts (97) overall. In addition to eight of the "Staffs of Loyalty" introduce in Vahki Bordakh (8615), the trap also contains of the Technic 7M "Flex rods" in silver, marking their final appearance in Bionicle. Even as they technically originated as part of the "Slammer Raptor" (8469) from the "Drome Racers" theme from 2002. The trap also marks the last appearance in Bionicle of the Technic 112.5-degree and 0-degree angle elements in Mata red, having first appeared in the "Super Street Sensation" (8448) from August 1999. Even though these parts continued to appear in this color until the present day. At the time of release, this was also the largest set to have the "Aqua Warblade" introduced with Hewkii Mahri (8912), though this title would only be held for roughly ten months after that. This was also the only Bionicle set to have the Technic 3x7 angular beams in dark stone gray, which first appeared as part of a Spider Man 2 set (4855) from April 2004, and is still in use today. The trap also marked the last appearance in Bionicle of the hand socket in Mata red, though it made one final appearance in an "Exo-Force" set (8111) during 2008 before it was phased out. Ending the production of the last color of this part which had been in use since the Slizer theme. Though this would become part of a broader conversation in regards to the Bionicle theme as a whole for the remainder of its run, as the socket joints would undergo a somewhat odd redesign during that time. But that's a different story.
Okay, I know the Ta-Matoran is named Sarda, but I can't seem to remember the name of the Ga-Matoran. The only reason I remember Sarda is because my grandma's name is Sandra.
he is a totally mad king!! wish we could have seen in the movie!! he made master of shadow screamed in fear!! and there is a swear words *Go To KARZAHNI!!* = go to hell
