You’re too kind, thank you and I will for sure 👍 I’ve started another backyard project as we speak but hopefully I didn’t bite off more than I can chew with this one 😂

Those doors are stunning. I like the hood also.

Thank you! I seriously cannot believe how cool the doors turned out but I’m loving this old wood. Just wish I would have bought more so I could do something else with it.

Thank you. This project was so much fun and was only supposed to be the stone veneer but then evolved into doors, hood, backsplash and stone lol 😂 funny how that happens. But I had good time on this one.

Thank you. The moment I set my eyes on this wood I was like… this is it. I’ll definitely get it again for other projects and it was easy to work with.

    Great Job.
DIY is the way to go, if you have the skills and gumption to do it. Hurricane Harvey ruined our house several years ago (just a few years after a flood also did it). And the insurance never pays enough to bring it back to spec, especially after your deductible. So after watching the flood remodel, I did much of the Harvey remodel myself. I used contractors for the heavy and messy labor stuff like drywall, tile, painting, etc. But by doing much of the other stuff myself (demo, kitchen cabinets, trim work, etc) I was able to get much higher quality material in than the insurance called for.

Thank you! We actually are always nervous about storms and the possibility of losing all this hard work.

I noticed at the end you changed the outlets in your kitchen splash to something more pronounced, because the brick veneer sunk them in really deep. Which product did you choose for that? Awesome job brother. Happy wife, happy life.

nice work. I like the stones. I think the outlets and switches need to be extended outward. I'm not a fan of sunken in switches. keep up the good work!

Thank you and you’re right. At first I thought it would look okay but I ordered some box extenders to bring them out 👍👍

Beautiful upgrades! It’s a shame the school systems across the country have done away with most shop classes to teach kids how to diy or turn it into a profession.

Yes I agree, it’s so sad. We chose to homeschool our son this year and so far it’s going great. He’s done with class work in 2 hours and the rest of the day he learns about DIY home projects with me and cooking, and planting. I wish we would have done this with our daughters too. But they’re out of school now.

That's an awesome job there. But nailing in the masion: do you need to backfill the holes or is it not even noticeable? If you did backfill, what did you use?

Why did you have to add wallboard when there was existing drywall there already? Does the Evo stone require a depth that was thicker than your current drywall? Also - what kind of wallboard do you put up? It looks great and I’m interested in using this kind of stone facade in a project of mine.

    Pecky cypress is the best

How do you hide the nail holes in the stone?

    • @DesignsbyDonnie
      @DesignsbyDonnie  20 дней назад

I used a tiny wax pencil that was tan to match the stone but while I was doing tbis, I quickly found out how difficult it was to find the holes from the Brad nails. The holes disappear in the texture of the stone so… I stopped filling the holes and you cannot see them at all.

Youre going to regret that stone as a back splash the first time you have to clean it.

Ummm... ya left out the cost for all tools & equipment. Your table saw... that's $5k easy (SawStop cabinet, right?). Big Grizzle bandsaw, $2k? Tools & equipment make up a big portion of what trades are charging you for. Labour is labour. If you're playing a person to do a job, that person deserves a living wage at min. Craftsmanship is extra.

I agree with you and I’m not saying that the contractors are charging too much but I am saying if you want to save a crap ton of money then you need to DIY it. The tools needed are so minimal. One doesn’t need my tools to accomplish this project. The better the tools the easier it will be but totally not necessary. You could use a jig saw or circular saw and a Brad nailer. But if you want to give a fortune away for this type of work to a contractor then it’s alright by me but I think saving the money and doing it yourself is the way to go.

No offense but that “stone” looks awful. I was thinking you would paint it or something. Everything else is great.

No worries, I always want to hear your opinion. It makes me a better DIYer. We actually love the stone though, and it changed our entire house. Our cheap home now appears like what the multi million dollar homes around here look like. It really elevated it. The only bummer is that the rest of the home now looks bland and non custom. lol 😂 I don’t know what to do because I’m not gonna stone the entire thing. I only wanted an accent wall. I’m gonna have to introduce more texture somehow though.
